Wow-- fantastic shots of the engines-- which are extremely interesting to me btw!! I don't know if you are familiar with it or not, but that 'whirling drive mechanism' reminded me a lot of the drive on the old steam locos they use on the Mt. Washington Cog RR in New Hampshire....!! (And the massive black smoke too LoL!!)
Probably very similar, just not without the cog to a third rail of course. I remember being excited to finally see geared engines in action, because I had seen so many pictures of them before but had never seen or heard one in motion.
Yep, gotta love coal smoke...every time I ride behind a coal-burner, the smell stays in my nose for days. Not that that's a bad thing in my opinion... :)
