I weep deeply at the fact that it is men like this, or Carl Sagan, etc. that die. While the pope still calls shots off in the distance. It truly is, sinister.
@JosephVStalinII Please don't compare Carl Sagan to Christopher Hitchens. Carl Sagan had a selfless, Universal view of positivity for all people, while Hitchens was a pro-American Empire sell-out. Though an eloquent one.
@LeonDawson11 He wasn't making any sort of comparison whatsoever. Ironically the only person attempting to compare the Sagan(who studied astrophysics) with Hitchens (who studied economics/politics/history) is you.
@MagicGummyBears Well, this is true for the majority of them, but some deists are anti-theists as well. They consider God to be the logical answer to some scientific questions, but they don't think it can be narrowed by human perception, much less be a source of morality. A position which i find to be sensible, by the way.
@kibo3232 Atheist: "a-", without; "theos", Greek for god. "Anti-", against; "theos", god again. An atheist lacks belief in a god or gods; and antitheist believes there are no gods. You're talking about areligious or antireligious deists.
It's important, because every combination of person exists -- I know an agnostic religious atheist, who does not believe in any gods, does not think you can prove or disprove them, and thinks religion has value despite being totally false.
@mattlewis66 It's important to note that while life is without meaning, as a society we should strive to make it as pleasurable as possible. Hitchens is one of the people who devoted his live to encouraging those kinds of political values. So his death has great MEANING to every who is living.
@mattlewis66 I prefer to think, since the Universe does not have any intrinsic purpose in the absence of a Creator, and therefore life does not have any intrinsic purpose either, that the purpose of living is whatever we wish it to be. You are free to do with your life whatever you wish, as long as you do not prevent others from doing the same, or hurting others. That, only, is *real* freedom of will. We may disagree on what constitutes "hurt," and we are still figuring that out, as a species.
Hitchens "comments" on Mother Teresa are typical judgemental stupidities. Her goodwill convicted him and brought out all the hatred of doing good for others. What has this mouthing moron ever done to help anyone in times of need? I bet he never supported an orphan child or went to Africa to give free doctors care for the sick like so many Christians do. Do not think for one second that Hitchens would send doctors over to Africa and PAY for the sick child's medical needs.
@PureAirSolutions Haha, Atheists are some of the most intelligent people on Earth. They far outweigh any religious person in intelligence whether you believe it or not, fool. Mother T was ignorant, she did help people but she could have easily done a far better job with the resources she had. Her primary objective wasn't to save lives, it was to indoctrinate them into her religion and preach her shit elsewhere!
@PureAirSolutions "What has this mouthing moron ever done to help anyone in times of need?"..he has gone to many war torn countries and fought for their freedom from tyrants of all creed. And of course he gave loads of money to charities. So your wrong. We await your public apology.
@PureAirSolutions Your statement is one of profound ignorance! You obviously know NOTHING of how the poorest of the poor died SUFFERING while she WILLFULLY played the PAWN by the SCUM that exploited the poor and the suffering That bitch had EVERY OPPORTUNITY to stop unwanted pregnancies and more needless suffering by providing condoms and educating the people on birth control yet she chose to do NOTHING aside from preaching the bullshit of the Catholic church!
@xusmcguy She did her best with what she had to work with. How about you go over there and try to do what she did and maybe then you will grow up finally. I am not Catholic, but it sure is hard to do what she attempted to do. In regards to your other vitriolic emotional outbursts, try examining your own beliefs which, quite frankly, aren't worth the time of day.
@TampaRed I don't mean to cut in but if you dug Hitchens up right now, you'll find his body, but something is missing. The body is there, but the thing that animated it is gone. If you have evidence of it's existence why are you not asking where did it go? You had two, but now you have one, where did 2 go? If you think I'm out of line forgive me, I'm not asking you questions because I want you answer. I just what you to understand stand that there are real questions and fake ones.
Humanity lost one of their best and rare honest thinker and most don't even know it! That is the disturbing sign for the intelectual developement of the human species as a group.
It's a shame Hitch wasn't around to see the death of the Dear Leader Kim il-sung. I would of loved to of read what he had to say about that. Gonna miss you big man.
@simonburbank I stand corrected, thanks for that I appreciate the constructive critacism. Always getting my Sungs mixed up with my Jongs but am happy to retract my previous statement and re-state it with your correction.
@DennisTheBear Yeah, that's the one. Never had a top comment before. Probably because I was one of the first to comment on the video but never the less is embarrasing to make such a schoolboy error.
@BUDFATHER Yes, but he already talked quite a lot about North Korea, he used to say that theocratic fascism was like a "Divine North Korea, where all only praise, talk and think about the great leader, where you could be easilly punished by thought-crime", also an allusion to Orwells 1984, thats is also something else I liked about the ways of Hitchens' intellectualism, he was not afraid to quote great man and great books, to show where he had stumbled upon some of his brilliant thoughts.
One of my intellectual inspirations! We feel sad for having lost him, but we can say we're fortuned enough to have his legacy of charming rationality.
@LeonDawson11
Given that Hitchens continued to be critical of many, many American policies-including those intimately tied to the wars-well, you're simply lying.

Dawkins is wasting his time on recalling Hitchens. Life is meaningless in the poor atheists' view of the world and so is therefore death.

Mother Theresa could have done so much with the funding she was given.
But she preferred to glorify her suffering stance and set up nun farms in her honour.
Pity about all the hospitals and health and helping stuff that she could have done with such funds.
I kept my opinions to myself about this 'epitome' of kindness. Then I heard Hitchens go off at her.
I still like to keep my opinions to myself with those close to me. But hearing him, on her, allowed me to breathe out on this.
