The Big money I think was better without the synths but this one seems emptier without them over the guitar, I do love the opening bell synth jingle though, 80s melodic bliss!
Yes, I saw them in summer of 2010! My wife and children saw them, too. Taken together my family has seen Rush 12 times! I wish Rush would remix this song with about the first 35 seconds from this version put in.
@wladj You being in radio for 12 years doesn't make you an expert on Demo tapes. If you had said you were a recording engineer I would give your comments a listen, but radio???? My butt cheeks could get a job in radio.
This is just awesome! Like watching an artist painting a masterpiece, this gives you some insight into the creation process. I actually like the synth bells (?) at 0:18 and wish they had been retained. I can't wait to see them this summer, for the sixth time and it's just as exciting now as when I saw them on the GUP tour. I feel young again . . . .
WOW! Amazing bakwards guitar sound, the only time since Caress of Steel, If I'm not much mistaken . . . Or is it in fact also in the mix on the LP somewhere ??????
This PW demo tape and many of the songs are good insight into one of The trends rock music was in the 80s.
The album is very "Police" sounding, although I would go as far as to say that the Police exclusively invented "their sound." As usual RUSH sees the trends, what they like and inspires them, taking it to the next level.
The chord progression at :53 and the tone of Alex's guitar is very reminicent of "Time After Time" by Cindy Lauper. Never noticed that on the LP version.
i see now, on these tapes there not as much synth as everyone complains about on this album ( idk why the album came out kick ass anyway) but its really clean cut i, guess thats the way u would put it..
I love Rush's music to death, but I've always wondered what their music would sound like with a bit of a pop beat to it. I think this is the answer. Pretty darn snappy.
Damn this is too f'n cool!!! This is probably top 3 Ruch album for me (and prob top 5 all time) so it's crazy to hear these. There's no doubting the authenticity, 100% Rush. Geddy's vocals are obviously not ripped. Very cool arrangement, don't know that I like it better though, it's just different. If they were reversed I'd probably say the same thing LOL!
Ohhh my Gosh!!! Whether or not this is fake, this is an awesome job. "Manhattan project" with a touch of "Afterimage" and.... does it seem even more Progressive?
This is a pure GEM and a present for all Prog Rock lovers!!!
to wladj: So you're saying someone who sounds like Geddy went and re-recorded different lyrics, different keyboard and guitar parts, etc. for this song and did the same for every other song from Power Windows to make a fake demo? I don't see a sane man would do that, much less believe someone else would do that. Why couldn't this be the actual Power Windows demo? I having trouble following your logic.
No... It's actually very much authentic. None of the demo songs found here sound like the final songs on the album... Therefore how can you edit the final Power Windows material and insert pieces of music that weren't there before and make it sound of the time with the instruments they were using? Listen to the lyrics... They aren't the ones that are on the album... Did this producer create a vocoder that makes you sound like Geddy Lee?

I just love that dim-dum-dim-dum-dim-dum keyboard that was left out from the final version. They should use it again.

Uhm... this isn't the studio recording. It's Rush, but it's not the final version of this song (which is much better in my opinion).

Yea, its the demo tape.
And this is the best quality i have of it.
Im still cleaning these files up...

This is OBVIOUSLY Rush. Wladj is just a retard who knows NOTHING.

hey mr Rush fan wladj, that's Geddy Lee singing, your little "radio" gig has done you no good in being able to tell shit. LMAO
The edits are the tape skipping or something else Einstein.
