  • Same opener in Cardiff - my ears are still ringing lol

  • What song is that mashed up with Zooropa at 3:05?

  • "Ode to Joy," music from Beethoven's Ninth Symphony.

  • This song is (I believe) universally recognized across cultures and languages as motivational and uplifting.

  • I love this too but I can stop feeling bad for one of the camera guys at 7:52. Has lots of chances for a good shot but can't get the camera to work.

  • More great U2 to check out on youtube: Sao Paulo (Popmart), Adelaide (Zootv) and "R&H outtakes"

  • I agree with EddieG -- absolutely amazing intro!

  • I like the lead up, anticipation and then Bono in front of that HUMONGOUS screen with his silouhette just staggering and rocking. The guitar, drums and bass. All in all, the best opening ever. God, I miss Zoo TV. An age of pushing, questions and going places musically we never have been and being so amazed by what we find.

  • EddieG1888 I could not agree more...

  • The drum sequence makes this legendary. Love it always get chills when that starts up.

  • For me, the most amazing intro to the most amazing show ever. I don't think it'll ever be bettered, even by U2.

  • @EddieG1888 Certainly aided by an adoring Sydney audience, who really rocked the house that night.

  • One of the best openings to a gig. Ever

  • Probably their best opening song

  • U2 wrote "Miami"

  • one of their best

i love achtung baby and i love it when it begins with this track

  • They are great now, but this where they were in their prime. Too bad I was to young to see this. I need a time machine damn it.

  • Truth is, Elevation, Vertigo, 360 tours could never compare to ZooTv. Simply the best.

  • How cool is this? Unmeasurable.

  • @ 2:05 clips from Hitler's Nazi rallies.

  • Hitler's Youth

  • that's actually the opening ceremony of the Berlin Olympic Games. And the kid drumming is a Hitler's Youth

  • The message of ZOO TV is fascism???

What was the message of U2's concert and music??? I'm confused. Was that the message: confusion? Chaos?

  • the chaos of present day mass consumer society

  • I saw this on telly, near xmas I thnk ? was about 15 years ago maybe?

    ;]

  • still the greatest u2 opening track _ simply amazing !!! mike

  • Cant believe you forgot the seminal Boy,the greatest U2 album.

  • As a member of Generation X U2 was and are the band of our times. The first time I heard them was when they did Gloria and I had never heard a sound like that. The Joshua Tree came out when I was in college and you could not go anywhere without hearing that album being blasted from every car, dorm room, frat house, or apartment. It was somewhat of a shame for I always thought that they were my little band. The best U2 albums- 1)War 2)The Joshua Tree 3)October 4)Achtung Baby

  • u2 captured the spirit of those times like no other band. what the beatles were for the 60s, led zep for the 70s, u2 were for the 90s. they understood exactly what the decade was about and reacted beautifully to it. loved them then and love them now, even if now they are more serious...wish bono would bring out the latex suit and the fly shades again just a little :)

  • Much ahead of their time...

  • I have followed U2 since the 80s and think POP was their best album and saw them during this tour, I felt this was the best they ever were and they were always an incredible band and second to none live...although...when I first heard this song...I thought "Zoo Station", was actually "SO SPECIALLL" hahaha, my bad

  • this is rock star U2

  • I actually have my heart in zooropa y pop. Pop is what got me into U2 and Zooropa delves into the depths of the mind (so does passengers)

  • According to a story I heard, this could have been U2's last concert. Bono was ready to leave because of Adam's drinking problem. Adam had to get on the wagon or else.

  • Just imagine if this was the last concert. I think the world would have gone crazy lol

  • I guess when someone is ready to leave a band at the peak of their power because of another member's issues, that is reason enough for Adam to make the change. I suppose they could have sacked Adam. The only thing is that Actung Baby was the only U2 album I have like since. The albums that followed were okay, but that album was just sheer awesomeness. Maybe all those issues resulted in interesting work? Who can say?

  • La mejor gira de u2 lejos, el mejor Show.

Lastima que no vino el ZOO TV a la Argentina. UNA PENA.

  • prime cut beef

  • Comment removed

  • I think the beginning montage is also something of a sly tip of the hat to Joy Division, which was a huge influence on U2 in their early days.

  • Adoro essa abertura muito legal quando o bono aparece subindo diante o telão...

  • best show they had..

  • the coolest beginning to a concert - EVER !!

  • What U2 constantly strive for is something new, they don't repeat themselves, people constantly complain about one aspect or another, Fair enough if you have a preferance for one particular U2 period over another, some prefer the U2 of the 80's where they built their sound and live reputation, 90s U2 had ACHTUNG BABY, Zoo tv, pop mart, 00's stripped back ELEVATION tour, Vertigo tour had its own unique properties, 360 tour totally amazing. Overall U2 are in a league of their own.

  • I am also lucky enough to have experienced U2 in the 80's, 90's and 00's and can't wait for whats in stores for the 10's

  • Exactly! Thank you!!!!

  • Great intro, its a real shame Bono got so pretentious and involved with politics+religion etc, i just wanna hear the songs mate not be lectured by someone not qualified. This is great this is when u2 were really good.

  • Its funny/ironic you say he got so pretentious now. When you put in mind that this tour imo is his most pretentious in terms of performance with characters like Macphisto, Mirror Ball Man & The Fly. Although pretensious it is still genius, because I think this tour was the greatest tour for them musically, creatively and perhaps vocally. Bono performances in this is effortless & mesmorizing, nowadays he's trying way too hard to capture these kind of moments.

  • the best show, the best tour, the best band in the world, forever

  • Beatles

    FoRevEr!

  • That's gotta be the peak time for U2.....Zoo TV was vintage.

  • The best tour by a rockband ever, music does'nt get any better than this. And Bono's voice was so clear here, so good.

  • Lights In The Sky - NIN, The Wall - Pink Floyd...

  • I have so many memories from this tour.

  • Excellent performance u2 give value for money!

  • La meilleure intro parmi les concerts de U2 je m'en lasse pas !!!! <3

  • That guitar opening is so tight.

  • we love serious boots -- and we hate platform shoes!

  • fantastic, wish I was there

  • the intro is so amazing love the kicking he does

  • ...THIS IS THE INTRO...

  • .. compare that with the current 360 concerts -- is this progress??

  • why do we always seek for progress ?? NO !! 360 tour opening cant be compared to this one.. Saw the 360 tour 2 times. But c'mon people ! The boys arent boys anymore.. They get older.. face it !! Ofcourse they dont do their show's anymore, with the energy, they had in those days !!

It always has to be better and better.. Why can't we just be happy to still enjoy them on stage. 360 Tour was amazing !!

  • i see your point, but another point is - apart from all the efforts they put in the show, the stage an so on.. : they seem to be fucked up. they are sold out. they are makin uninspired music for the retarded pop kids nowadays -- and that is extremely tragic. don´t you think?! breathe, boots, magnificent -- what the hell is that?

  • I have to agree with you sascha. I am an 80's kid and loved Achtung Baby and Joshua Tree but their later CD's are sooooo weak. It's all fake.

  • totally agreed (unfortunately ): , but thats the true) they even say (rumors)this will be their final tour and they'll quit waaaa

  • You know its peoples high expectatons. U2 really raised the bar so incredibly high between 84-94. I believe that was their peak in regards to performance, musicality & creativity. Its true they're old now and that usually breeds complacency. Its hard to reignite the fire and hunger you once had in your youth. And that goes for any musician or anyone in entertainment business as a whole.

  • nothing like a U2 concert

  • Bono smokes????

  • did smoke. for about 4 years? someone correct me if im wrong.

  • Bono's performance as The Fly is amazing here. What a great concept.

  • Epic resonance

  • I seriously doubt he gave up alcohol after that. U2 is notorious for their love of booze.

  • Best. Entrance. Ever.

  • Pure brilliance. It's a real shame that they've gone from experimental artists to egomaniacs. Still love them. However, it's kind of ironic when you think about it, what they once parodied is now what they have become.

  • your intitled to your opinion but i wouldnt agree that they have become egomaniacs. i think they are class. they are a huge rock band, of massive scale, which will always bring accusations of bein egomaniacs, they are very much in touch with reality and the people.

  • con esta canción me engache a u2!

  • I wish The Fly would make a return. He had to be the best rock icon since Ziggy Stardust!

  • this and the pop tour

  • I'd second that

  • my dad was there.

  • I think it's genius, I love how intimidating it is, and how it almost sends you into a fit, because of all the images and sounds being thrown at you. It's brilliant how satirical it was, and how it was telling people to think for themselves, and to not be pulled into the media machine being turned by the tycoon that is Rupert Murdoch.

  • Still the biggest band in the world and this would be why.

  • Cork... 1993....

  • Sheer class! What an intro!

  • to come out with this album and tour after the joshua tree..brilliant!!

  • U2 always has the best intros

  • Wats up with U2 and the Nazis thing? If anyone can explain it please send we a message

  • Well its obvious that they are not claiming their support for them I assume they are kind of making fun of them If you watch bono's macphisto's speech towards the end of this show, he talks about how all nazis deserve Auschwitz. It's a great moment in the show just look up macphisto

  • don't confuse "german" with "nazi". they had a very german tone to them during this period because the berlin wall had just come down and they worked on part of this album in germany. this was also the very, very beginning of the internet and the re-unification of germany was one of the first major world events to recorded and transmitted over the internet.

  • It was Russian, with a Red Army song. This album was made in Berlin when the wall came down. It has nothing to do with the Nazi Party.

  • It was that time in the 90's when a lot of neo-nazism surfaced in countries around the world (sadly also in Germany), and that was Bono's way to address that issue.

  • One of the Greatest Concert Intro's in the History of Rock Full Stop !!!

  • I've seen this show...at Cologne!

  • woww im emilio i have 13 years old i live in mexico this concert it s amazin man because this is the real u2

  • would've killed to have been at this show but I was a toddler at the time.

  • would love to see a video of them performing zooropa live. If ya have a link plz let me know thx.

  • Come on D.F.!

  • THESE are the real U2! smashing, excessive, "leatherly" kitch, kick ass on the visuals, experimental by mind and rock by heart...

"get your boots on"??? oh come on!!!!

  • dude in certain points right, Gte On Your Boots is not their best creation (I didnt like it at all) but also take in count that U2 has more than one "face" at his creations ;)

  • thats a great song on b4 they start playin,t.v drug of a nation

  • Zoo Tv .... Lo SHOW

  • Bono actually makes smoking look cool!

  • him and dennis hopper lol

  • Me and a mate queued up over night outside Earls Court to get tickets for this tour, not because we wanted to see the band, but because we were very skint and we figured we'd sell the tickets for a lot of money. After a 16 hour wait we got tickets - having done this we then decided that after such a long night we would go to the gig when it came around, thus continuing to eat Pot Noodle's for the next couple of months.

It was a good decision - it remains one of the best gigs I have ever been to.

  • I wish they would release the zootv show from London in 1993 on DVD. The one where they have a satelitte link with Sarajevo

  • wait there is video of that gig?

how do I get my hands on it?

their performance of Zooropa was trancendant during that show

  • Unbelievable Perfomance!

  • He wasnt actually sick, he was just too hungover. He went on a massive booze binge the night before and couldnt perform. Thats why we love Adam, he definitely puts the groove in U2.

  • After watching this so many times I only just realised the significance at 6:37...the night before Adam was sick and missed the show...the only time in the bands history. They've said that this show was pretty emotional for them!

  • Yeah the early 90's were the best! We had the whole grunge era and bands like u2,metallica,and r.em. at their peak from the 80's. AMAZING. Thank God i survived it. By the way....The Red Hot Chili Peppers kick ass!

  • It is virtually impossible for anybody, even U2 now, to top the sheer perfection that was ZOO TV. It will go down, without a doubt, as the greatest live show of the rock era. Or any era for that matter. Or any music "genre" for that matter. Ridiculously impressive!!

  • i completely agree!

  • Amen! Best album, best tour, best concept.

  • fantastic , saw them in dublin on same tour ...amazing . seen them in 2005 but not as good as this one !. going to dublin in july again to see them on the new tour ! zoo tv tour will be hard to beat !!!

  • going to see them in dallas on october 12th!!! i'm so ready, but i know it probably won't beat this performance. this is just legendary!

  • I got tickets for las Vegas, and for the two concerts in Chicago!! I HARDLY CAN WAIT UNTIL THEN!!!

I LOVE U2'S MUSIC... JUST CAN WORD CAN DESCRIBE IT: ORGASMIC!!!

  • Jesus is still trying to figure out how to top Bono's entrance for his second coming.

  • I hope Jesus skips the smoking part. It would definitely send a bad message to the kids.

  • This music is radically exciting from start to finish ... I wanted to be dancing in the show too! The dance of Bono is amazing, very good even!

  • It's the Disposable Heroes of Hiporosey! i heart them. Oh yeah, U2 is great, too.

  • LEGENDARY

  • I was at the Ames, Iowa concert in the fall of 1992!! It was literally to this day, the best concert in our state!!!! Unbelievable!!!!!

  • Gracias William por dejarme compartir los mejores conciertos y eventos que eran muy difícil de creer que podia verlos, este concierto + el de Pink Floyd "mi cabeza no podia creer lo que estaba mirando"

  • i am 35 now was 18 i think when they came to kansas city the most bad ass concert ever ever was.

  • zooou2

  • BLOODY ORGASMIC!!!!

  • saw them at dodger stadium during this tour.I appreciate it even more now than ever.Public enemy opened! that was interesting, but cool.:)

  • Saw it! Verona, Italy July 03. Fukking BRILLIANT!!

  • The drumming by those kids is just ridiculously powerful.

  • Can't wait for the U2 360 shows :)

  • Cuando salgo los viernes del curro llego a casa y me pongo ACHTUNG BABY. En el primer riff de guitarra de ZOOstation sufro una especie de descarga electrica muy parecida a la de Bono en este video. Bendita descarga.

  • I have yet to see a better stage, fucking amazing

  • This tour changed live performances forever...I think people forget that! Mind blowing!

  • roll on Cardiff 2009

  • Dam right mvlaver!!!!

  • Could anyone tell me the name of the song that plays for the first 50 seconds or so? Thanks

  • 'Television the Drug of a Nation' by Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy.

  • Comment removed

  • that is a fucking show!

I love it, it almost intimdates the audience

  • MInd blowing

The first scenes with the hitler youth from the nazi propaganda film 'triumph of the will ' its evil but it just sends chills down my spine .

  • ..n just when I thought U2 couldn't kick my ass any more....

  • Bono did a great job playing The Fly

  • BONO POPE!

  • Zoo Tv were the most beatiful concert ever!

  • This is pretty much amazing.

  • hope they do this song on the 360 tour

  • i just crapped my pants

  • their best concert ever

  • I can not hear because of the fucking avertisment on the right, what are you doing with that????

  • It makes me cry watching this, very powerful intro to any concert show. Absolutley extraordinary.

  • best opening ever... by any band....gives me chills and ive been watching this concert since 93/94 when it came out on vhs....still havent seen U2....hope to see them in dallas this year

  • You have to go see them, whether ur a fan or not, Noone else i have seen live comes anywhere close to U2 live

  • piss off bitch. cant talk about a GOD that way!

  • Hahaha how is he pretentious? Do you even know what that word means? He's in the biggest band in the world mate. Pretentious does not apply.

  • Uh.. The joke is that Bono knows that modern rock and roll is a joke. If you listen to the lyrics you may realize that they still have passion. Everything else is just spectacle similar to the glam rock days. Come on man don't be so judgmental. U2 knows what they are doing.

  • Best show ever , you can't have a better intro than this. Even today this show look up to date. I have shiver each time...

  • yes i agree, i was just checking this out because of the great entrance of the brit awards remembered me this one ... its as great or maybe better than this ... i dont know, i just love this huge screen zoo tv entrance

  • I've always wondered if they picked up on what negativland was doing while suing them and then decided to jack their concept for this tour... this shit seems too much like negativland, and too close in timing to the lawsuit to ignore the similarities...

  • They got to put on a tour like this again to prove they are the best, there were hints on Vertigo and on the live version on get on your boots but they could better this with the technology of today, rumour I heard is a very special tour lined up but fingers crossed they will, they are the only band that can!

  • It's not so much the technology but the unique way U2 choose to use it. Their subliminals, hidden voices, arresting images - they're a drug.

U2 audiences don't dance, not much, famous for it. Why? Too busy being mesmerized by everything that's happening. When Edge plays, I just want to stand and listen, when an animated baby screams Momma over and over, I just want to look. Their use of sounds and imagery is as iconic as their songs, that's what I want from the new tour - overt, like ZOO

  • Zoo tv was about showing people what t.v. does to you.

  • Yeah...got that Devlin. My point - the subliminals, the animated snippets, disjointed voices, messages, collage imagery are a constant motif at U2 concerts - not just ZOO.

They've been toned down for last two tours - I just want them pumped up again for the next one - 'It's very simple'

  • lets just say if you analyzed all those little "snippets", you would find quite a story unfold in front of your eyes. Something you wouldnt believe if Bono had told it to you or why he did it.

  • Devlin, as you (we) 'analyse' the world, what's the major problem we always face?

We're part of it, part of the problem, part of the solution. But NEVER can we 'analyse' in noble isolation.

Now if you understand that you'll know what I mean when I say it's very simple.

Simple means if you want to read a book on philosophy, read one, meanwhile I'll talk about a rock concert.

    Respect your views :-)

  • Im aware of these things you say, but many are not, so im just raising the question to people who havent thought about it. Its like showing other parts of yourself what our problems are, and what Bono is really trying to say to everyone regardless of how cool or well put together it is as a rock concert. I think the planet earth is much more important than these things. Thanks for making me think. We really need to wake up to these things regardless of if we want to or not.

  • I think something greater is trying to heal us regardless of our beliefs and precepts. Examples: Religion, Media, Government, ect.
