At least in the 80's this rink was called the 32 rink at the Lake Placid Arena and had a huge mural of Sonja painted on the wall. In the late 70's they built a bigger rink for the 1980 Olympics.
Oh Mattie!!! You make a good point, but I can't allow such ugly lanquage on my posts!! Dresses in the 1920's were ankle length. Skaters allowed the world to consider shorter lengths, and the depression (1930) demanded more practical use of material. Skaters today, however, dream of skating in the 'long, white dress' (or at least their mothers dream of it) best wishes
@k9henrydog dresses in the 1920's were NOT ankle-length! you are in the wrong decade. the flapper dresses, which were the fore-runner of miniskirts were from the '20's - above the knee; at times, well above!
@supremes70sstyle Well, it's hard to say at what point skirts rose in the 1920's. Earlier in NY, later in the mid-west. Some would not wear Flapper dresses, but they led the way. Actually, check our post on Charlotte Oesglagel. She was the real pioneer here! (at least in skating) There is documentation however, that the depression (with cost concerns) led to the adoption of shorter skirt lengths for the general public......but thanks for your input and comment. best wishes
@k9henrydog my grandmothers lived in chicago, which is as mid west as you can get - skirts were short in the '20's, longer in the '30's - unless you are talking strictly skating costumes, & i cannot speak about that, as i don't know. street dresses were quite short in the '20's - there are literally 1,000's of pics to bear that out! take care!
welll im not shure if i can bolive you but anyway my names sasha and are you a skater like me? and if you are that would be cool and maybe if you are going to winter olimpics we can meet im ganna preform there but i think that will be one of my last competitions
it was presented in the tape i have as the 1932 Olympics, which would have been in Lake Placid. It seems to be an indoor rink. You might find a photo of the event and see if the skating dress matches, to be sure! best wishes

@Namelessvanity She was awesome. A true legend in the sport. Sonja still holds the record for most Olympic Championships won by woman. :)
