Re: the "top comments" (and if they're the "top comments", bless our world ): He doesn't ask "Did you notice it right away?" He asks, "Did you know right away that it was very serious?" Considering that when you get your throat cut you might go into shock or something and not know much of anything, let alone how serious it would be.
he shouldn't have tried to move away, that just made his neck more exposed, if anything he should have put his head down to try to get the skate to glance off his mask
@iHateYouMostLikely actually when you bend your neck down your arteries are more exposed rather when you look up your jugular pretty much protects it.
it's so awesome to see this guy joking about the incident and honestly wanting to get back to work only a week later...the footage from that cut he took is fucking crazy...why can't people put their alliances aside and just be happy for this guy?...he survived every players worst nightmare...
the guys asks if he knew right away that it was very serious, not did he notice (that he was cut). there's a difference. sometimes in a high adrenaline situation a split second injury might take the player a moment to realize what happened. clint even said he had to check to see if he was bleeding so obviously he did not know how serious it was. so stop bashing the interviewer. it was a valid question.
@lawnmowerman7 And seriously. When u see so much blood and when the blood is sipping out like from a bottle of milk. Then ofcourse you directly ralize that theres something serious. Why do u think he answered: YES???!!! It was a stupid question for sure.
you must have what i have on video 3 different views plus this...i got it on someones homemade faces of death tape...clint was never the samw after this...i cut my achilles tendon when i was 12..my god blood was spewing from me! he is a goalie coach for the blue jackets last i knew...
i remembered this very very well it was like all over the news and the papers then like two days later the exxon valdez oil spill was all over but this was really scary at the time cuz i have played hockey almost all of my life and i never want something this to happen to me
Abooout, ooout, aice.. Been watching HIMYM, now I get it, hahaha. Also, "I bet you're dying to get oout there". You don't say that to someone who just got their throat slashed.
@antivideogamer I've been severely cut on my right arm by broken glass and it didn't hurt at all, honest! The cut on my arm happened real fast (so does Clint's injury) so I guess he felt that a skate went to his throat but I'm convinced that the cut itself wasn't painful.
when the guy asked did you notice right away, it is a valid question. THe body releases a natural painreliever when stuff like this happens so you might not notice it right away. This pain reliver is the reason why emos slit their wrists(so they can get high off the substance), and why you dont feel it right away when you stub your toe. The pain reliever and the shock he was probably in could have attributed to him not noticing it.
My mom showed me tape of this game to keep me out of hockey but i guess I'm to stubborn I still wanted to play Clint inspires me to keep going no matter what happens (:
only two goalies would be insane enough to be joking about such a thing so shortly after it happened! Goalies are a weird group of people but thank god we have em
best question: did he continue to save on that match? xD
answer to musingmike and mjn76 : these interviews are planned way before the actual shot that's why he could give an immediate answer to that stupid question. often not even the interviewer writes the questions he asks.
IIRC he was a rodeo bull rider. Those guys are some of the toughest people on earth. If it's true, then you know why Clint was able to stay calm. Total bad ass.
wtf....did you know it was very serious!??!!? oh no...the blood pouring out of my neck, just that i had a paper cut..... man this interviewer is a fucking idiot.
squirting out? that was literally pouring out! Malarchuk is dead on lucky he knew to get his hand up there to hold the area. otherwise he would have been dead before they got him off the ice!
@Thumper17 Hey c'mon Thumper. That's Gerry Cheevers man! Stanley Cup Champ from St.Catherines Ontario. Have a little respect eh. He's only asking questions that are presented to him to ask the guest,by his higher ups.
Clint had the right attitude. It's like someone who survived from a very terrible car accident. The sooner that person can get behind the wheel is the best.
what kind of a question is that to ask someone who went through such a traumatic experience? an incredible amount of poise was held by that man as he rolled with a question that was brought up in such bad taste...
This is one of the reasons why im not a huge fan of playing hockey cause what if that happens to you i mean thats just something you cant control you can control someone elses skates or actions
Injuries and risks come with anything you do. Everytime I step on the football field I risk paralyzing myself. Everytime you get into a car, you risk dying. The chances of what happened here are MUCH less than the chances of someone getting in a car accident and dying. You can't control someone else's driving, just like they can't control another person's skates.
A neck protector will not protect you in all cases. Thats why most goalies should wear a dangler as well. With a neck protector, if the goalie looks up or extends his head, enough of a gap will be created that a skate could get through. With the dangler, the skate has to get under it to do damage. Thats why i wear both when i play. Take no chances. Goalie equpment is meant to protect the goalie when he is in his stance or facing the puck.
My uncle had the same thing happen to him i think it was when he played junior, he wasn't a goalie but he has a huge scar across one side of the front of his neck
erm..fellow youtubers, i seriously think we should inform the funny farm looney unit that their escaped mental patient is on tv pretending to be a news reporter...poor man.... so bad it's funny..., clint, well done for not lamping him one when he referenced your farm upbringing, i would've, tosspot...
dont be mad at me but im not a big fan of hockey. of course ill watch it but when i saw this man holy shit i realized how tough hockey reallly is. huge props TO MALARCHUK!
@jeepnutnh he probably didnt actually talk about it before he just handled him self well like raptor45 said, it was a dumb question and he answered well, probably not a true answer, maybe it is WHO KNOWS
@musingmike It was a relevant question although maybe a bit out of place. That's Gerry Cheevers. It's probably true that being around the sight of blood on the farm kept Clint calm. The sight of ones own blood can often cause shock and panic which elevates the heart rate.
Terrible interviewer. The guy is a fucking cocky idiot.
Malarchuk handles himself well in this one, though. Give the guy mega props for having his throat sliced open, and recover so fast to put on a pair of skates and engage in the game again. A true hockey player.
man that guys a douche obviously no brains at all Malarchuk was awesome in this interview. but the dude says werid stuff and ask him retarted things that are almost like a joke to him
I'm so glad he made it out okay. He's a great goaltender and person. He handled the situation very mannerly. The last question was wierd and at 2:22 I agree with NYGSD about his comment.

Within seconds the trainer was there what was he telling you to do?
Were you conscious on the way to the hospital? Were you aware of what was going on?

@musingmike huh? at 1:50 Malarchuk says they spoke of it outside, so what'
s out of line about it?
jeepnutnh 1 year ago
@jeepnutnh he probably didnt actually talk about it before he just handled him self well like raptor45 said, it was a dumb question and he answered well, probably not a true answer, maybe it is WHO KNOWS

@musingmike you're an idiot, clint clearly relished answering the question. the interviewer was courteous on all accounts. muse on that, mike.

@musingmike the interviewers laughed and so did clint...so fuck you

@musingmike Na!!! It was a good question for animal Lovers, It was like saying "See how it feels?"""
chucholetsm8one 1 year ago
@musingmike It was a relevant question although maybe a bit out of place. That's Gerry Cheevers. It's probably true that being around the sight of blood on the farm kept Clint calm. The sight of ones own blood can often cause shock and panic which elevates the heart rate.

@SCROGY Yep. Actually, when it happened, 7 people fainted and 5 people had a heart attack in the crowd.

Terrible interviewer. The guy is a fucking cocky idiot.
Malarchuk handles himself well in this one, though. Give the guy mega props for having his throat sliced open, and recover so fast to put on a pair of skates and engage in the game again. A true hockey player.

@Raptor45 Exactly a TRUE hockey playerr

I'm so glad he made it out okay. He's a great goaltender and person. He handled the situation very mannerly. The last question was wierd and at 2:22 I agree with NYGSD about his comment.
