  • thats a good as whistle 4 that crossing!

  • What gauge?

Not a very good crossing whistle sequence?

  • Hi in NZ we are on narrow 3ft 6in gauge and don't do anything at a crossing apart from a good blast if required. Nowadays only if a blind approach or vehicle is at or approaching crossing otherwise nothing.

  • The grade crossing whistle warning was _ . (long, short) which was once used in the Uniited States. Still used in China!

Americans love lots of noise. The long, long, short , long whistle code is the legal grade crossing warning.

Though I like hearing steam locomotive whistles, it makes sense to be silent when there are crossing signals.

I video AT CROSSINGS to capture any collisions or people disregarding the signals.

Also, the red lights (o)=(o) and bells

    add to the video.

  • Sometimes at private crossings in the US they wont even blow the horn. Mind you that these crossings are unprotected (no bells, lights, nothing.)

  • I like horns and whistles, but would not create needless noise pollution and disturb the peace if I can see no vehicles or persons are at or approaching the grade crossing. (I would always blow a steam locomotive whistle - people want to hear these rare sounds)

I blew Diesel horns for a crossing very quietly because it was protected with

    (o)=(o), gates and bells.

Hopefully that crossing will become a Quiet Zone.

Likewise, I do not sound the siren unless necessary.

  • good stuff, love the file name :)
