Chill man, it's a bit of fun. Most Ukrainians are tolerant, and that's how we differ from a lot of other nationalities and that's why we blend well into countries that gave us refuge from Russian oppression. Jokes like this are harmless and don't really make fun of Ukraine at all.

Sorry, but it's actually acceptable in English to call it "the Ukraine", it's not common but it's still used. You should read the article on Wikipedia. You shouldn't attack a language you don't really know...
I've never heard it called just "Ukraine" in English in all my life, don't know why its always referred to as "The Ukraine" in news reports and stuff but it sounds more natural to me. And Im from Ireland so its not just Americans. I guess similarly Holland is called "The Netherlands" not just "Netherlands", Congo is called "The Congo", Gambia is called "The Gambia", is just one of those things.
