I appreciate the kind words KGLOVER. We should be able to discuss marching bands in a reasonable manner if the comments are made in a respectful, non-abusive nature. Any of us that marched for an HBCU band have tremendous pride in our bands and sometimes take constructive compliments as personal attacks. I too am pleased with the evolution of dialogue between myself and SUdiehard. I wish more band veterans could converse in a meaningful way without throwing salt.

I agree, it's nothing like being there "live". However, due to geographic constraints for most, Youtube will be the only basis on which many of the bands will be evaluated. As far as his feelings (assuming "he" is a guy), "he" has shown an openness to review the "reference material you provided in an earlier post. Under the circumstances, I was more impressed with the way you two conducted the "examination" (if you will), than any particular opinion rendered-take care.

My ONLY point is that a band this talent and this good has the capacity to be GREAT. I would love that ALL Southern performances are played with the same clarity, definition and caliber as the other songs you listed. You never know who sees which performance. Yall are the real deal. You can go with the best in the nation bar none. Without throwing any dirt, a band this talented and strong should make EVERY public showing as clean and pristine as possible. Southern is a VERY GOOD BAND. With the numbers Southern has in Brass, Bones, Euphoniums, Suzaphones and the pure passion I see on screen when I watch this band perform, this truly can be a GREAT BAND. I would like to see Southern focus a bit more on pure musicianship and play a bit more controlled as opposed to over blowing. As is, Southern is one of the top 5 HBCU bands in the country.  I honestly believe this could be in the top 2 with some more attention to detail. IMHO

Lots of power...not a lot of good music. Loud, powerful music. But not good music. Look up some NSU videos when they are in the stands and take notes. (No, I am NOT a former member of the Legion)

Southern's Brass power is unquestioned. From a trained ear that is a former marching band member at an HBCU, there are parts that over blown and the music lacks depth beyond the trumpets, euphoniums and bones. No disrespect fellas. But louder aint always better. Some of the trumpets look like they are about to crap out a cinder block trying to belt out notes as loud as they can.
