aloha amigos. you might like to know that i finally announced my long rumored campaign for president. i can't post the link here, but search SuperDuperMan4Prez, or rx2008. peace
Wanted to apologize for letting the Chinese reference fly completely over my head. I have been so focused on the plight of West Africans, stupidly didn't even know about the scope of Chinese influence in Darfur. Just received another petition via e-mail stating that China is responding, but to further push leaders nonetheless.
I should have done my homework. Bad girl. BTW, never, ever meant any sarcasm towards you. Never would.
Exactly what is your solution to this genocide in Darfur? Do you want us to send in a military invasion force a la Iraq? Didn't think so. But guess what? NOthing short of that is going to stop the killing in Darfur.
my solution? well, maybe i'd start with signing that petition that's linked up. then, i'd try to get other people to sign it, so that hopefully sooner or later, enough people express the political will to do more than nothing.
beyond that, i'm not sure i have "The" solution, but that's a bit like asking a patient's relative for "the" cure. point being, don't have the information or expertise to solve the problem at the moment, but that does not meant the problem does not need solving.
that said, you might be right. armed intervention might be the only thing that will work. i might start with a phone call to the president (?) of sudan, tell him to knock it off or else...maybe try to get the chinese involved, since they might have some influence over there. otherwise, yeah, call in the calvary. since so many people in the world seem to agree that sudan is a problem, maybe the u.n. could do what wasn't done in rwanda.
How right you are in response to mastereck, rx2008. Yeah, let's start with soliciting the aid of the human-rights-loving Chinese government, then call in the U.N., who will will make it all better...just like they did in Rwanda and are doing in the DRC as I type.
ARMED INTERVENTION OR NUTHIN'! (I love the smell of napalm in the morning, don't you?)
i'm pretty sure it was bill clinton, "america's first black president" who ordered madeline albright (sp?) to veto the use of u.n. troops in rwanda, no?
Great book recommendation for you on Rwanda: 'Shake Hands With the Devil: The Failure of Humanity in Rwanda' by Romeo Dallaire. He was the UN Force Commander/ Lieutenant General in Rwanda, '93, for a small 'peacekeeping force'-Canadian- that was abandoned by world powers. He nearly committed suicide upon his return. Brutally frank, but award-winning and worth every page.
How can I send you a video? I found one very pertinent to this video, discussion, and filmmaking in general. I'm subscribed to you,but my account won't let me send you any vids. Thanks.
# Since the outbreak of fighting in August 1998, * At least 3.3 million people, mostly women, children and the elderly, are estimated to have died because of the conflict, most from disease and starvation * More than 2.25 million people have been driven from their homes, many of them beyond the reach of humanitarian agencies.
# These shocking figures would usually be more than enough to get media attention the world over.
Thanks so much for this, and will definitely sign. I was wondering if you or I or anyone might be able to organize a similar petition for the DRC (Congo.) I work on behalf of poliyical asylum-seekers from Africa, most Congolese. More than 5 million people have died in the genocide there in recent yeears, but the crisis gets very little public attention. Most victims, as usual, are women and children.
great idea. i actually know a wee tiny bit about the problems in the DRC from a speech that president bush gave a while back. can't understand why nothing's being done about it. anyway, i've contacted the folks who organized the darfur petition so we'll see what they have to say...
No, you really are amazing. The first time I found your Sunday Bloody Sunday vid, I'd just returned from Belfast, and my kids and I didn't know whether to laugh or cry -I think we did both. We adore your work, and you obviously have the heart to match your talent and intellect. That is a rare combo. (and hallucinogens are one of your inspirations. BIG plus.) We need more like you !
Signed and hoping that you put this in a number of webpages, MySpaces, Tribe(.)net, Craigslist(.)org, Kindrideshare (.) com and let it spread from there.
Peace & thanks for sharing bit a love and compassion for the Mothership we all share.
bless you as well! thanks for giving a fuck. i usually don't go for petitions and that sort of thing, but when someone like Save Darfur Coalition makes it so easy to get involved, you know, it's almost impossible not to sign on. ok. peace.
thanks for this. we are the fucking grown ups now, aren't we? time to start acting like it. Can you put that link form the end of your video into your vid description? would make it much easier fro me and others to link to it. peace, davis
RX: signed the petition. Love beer. Love strategizing. 2 upcoming events, perhaps we can connect before/ during/ or after: Saturday, may 26- one of my videos is being used by a choreographer in this dance piece. (Weird. fun.) I'm going to check it out. Not sure how you feel about modern dance...... it's at the Joyce Soho (NYC) info: dancecore dot org. Also, on june 18, I am performing about 10 minutes from my work in progress ( a punk/ folk caberet thing) at the bubble lounge in tribeca.
sat. might be tough, but maybe. the other gig sounds great. due to short term memory loss however, a reminder would be helpful. certainly no reason not to have beers sooner though.
America's hand is in this dirty little pie!
I dont understand why people sweep it under the carpet and refuse to look into facts.
Thanks man.
