  • What happens if you drink it?

  • now touch it...

  • isnt it funny how rare earth magnets are so cheap to get

  • TOUCH IT, GODDAMNIT

  • Fucking magnets, how do they work?!

  • @savshavo ok, simple explanation or complicated?

  • Use Buckyballs on it! :D

  • Totally should be added to Minecraft :P haha ^^

  • @ringgeest11 lol i cant imagine yogscast's reaction to it if it was added

  • great!! how did u make it????? :D

  • nice.

  • what happens if you touch it ?

  • Make a motor using ferrofluid. I'd like to see that.

  • can you show the instruction of making this ferrofluid? I have tried for a long time but still no success

  • 17:30 16-10-2010 288,882 vizionări

  • you can make it with MICR Toner (office max)

    Vegetal Oil (grocery store)

  • hmmm choclate

  • @trunumbawan

    Make Magno-Brownies with it!

    You're brilliant!

  • where you get Ferrofluid?

  • Someone needs to learn how to focus a camera. Very annoying.

  • @Masowai

    Cinema-Magnete'?

  • where i can get some jejeje:D

  • will any magnets work with this? or is there a specific magnet?

  • nice balls

  • is it poisonus to humans?

  • @Legoman96

Yep, it would be like drinking oil and toner.

  • one electromagnet, and its iron core is extended and sculpted. The ferrofluid covers the sculpted surface of a three-dimensional iron shape that was made on an electronic NC lathe. The movement of the spikes in the fluid is controlled dynamically on the surface by adjusting the power of the electromagnet. The shape of the iron body is designed as helical so that the fluid can move to the top of the helical tower when the magnetic field is strong enough

  • which is the songs name?

  • your camera sucks lol

  • lol NOM! NOM! NOM! NOM! NOM! NOM! NOM!

    that song is weird

  • It's iron particles suspended in mineral oil...

  • warning contains science hahahaah

  • thats funny :D

  • ITS SO COOL

  • "Ferrofluid was invented by NASA." WRONG! Ferrofluids were discovered in an engine sump. Basicly, it's old engine oil and tiny ferrous particles caused by wear over several years. NASA only refined the idea. The chances are, if you buy ferrofluid on Ebay, you'll have 100ml of old sump oil delivered.

  • thanks for that info. I was looking for info in where or how this stuff is made. So it was discovered by accident uh. Interesting........

  • science is like cool and stuff!

  • I read that if you allow it to coat a neodymium magnet directly, it forms a nearly frictionless surface. Did anyone else try that? I'm afraid to because ferrofluids are expensive and it would be almost impossible to separate them after the test.

  • its kind of an ugly color. it looks like car oil.

  • omg this sound is just terrible

  • song*, my bad

  • im pretty sure ferrofluid was definately not invented by nasa! more like reveresed alien technology.

  • It is a bit disgusting, isn't it??But it is soo cool!!!

  • but, will it blend?

  • tis witchraft

  • @genaroesparragoza science smoke. don't breath this :P

  • @genaroesparragoza lol whoo ferro smoke dont breathe this

  • AHHH SCIENCE?!

    *Hiss*

  • what would happen if you microwaved this stuff? 83

  • it would probably get ruined and it would fuck up your microwave. remember, it IS metal

  • it'l burn.

  • touch it ^^

  • With your penis

  • While it looks like mercury, its safe to touch, not eat though lol

  • where can u buy it??

    i wanna have that !

  • what happens if you touch it?

  • it's like oil, well it is oil, with iron.

    it will act like oil.

  • Warning: Contains Silence

  • what was the audio?

  • I don't know. o.o Audio was removed before I saw this.

  • Warning: Contains Science

  • can you touch it?

  • were can i find it???

  • ebay or make it

  • HOW?

  • make it? rly? how you do that?

  • i believ the main ingredients are kerosine and iron filings

  • it asol reacts to static and some times sound

  • warning contains science : )

  • is it expensive?

  • 13-15$ per ounce they say

  • the video quality sucks, as well as the song.

what actually happens IN the video is good though.

  • duh, I've done this a million times we have som ferrofluid

  • are you venom?

  • Wow. Extremely interesting. Is this a "liquid magnet....or is it "liquid iron"?

  • OOOH! sexy!

  • Muahahaha! You should have put your two round ones ate the top and the straight one at the bottom and made a smiley face =)

  • So now the Arme is going to create ferrofluidsoldiers ordert and controlled by kids playing wireless computers in syperspace 3D reallity

  • do ferrofluids work with any magnet?

  • Yes, of course!

  • OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

what if mag netto got this stuff

  • what happens if u touch it?

  • YOU DIE!

  • really?

  • LOLZ

  • how do you get it?

  • Now I see what they mean when they say it stains.

  • Is there an efficient way to put this stuff back into a bottle?

  • use a very small funel. you can buy them at walmart for 2 to 3 dollars.

  • thats sick!

  • hey! it's tanned smiley!

  • you drink it ??

  • NO DONT DRINK IT!

  • Youre not supposed to drink it? Oh...

I had a CHUG contest with my buddies and I had to chug this. They said it was old pepsi! DAMN YOU FRIENDS!!!

  • for one, if you drank this you would be dead. as all it is is oil mixed with a ton of tiny iron particles.

  • Dude,it was just a comment.Dont take it too seriously.

  • lol ok.

  • Why do all youtube videos have to be accompanied by crappy music? this would have been much more informative if the person conducting the experience had been giving a running commentary. Instead, I'm aurally assaulted by the caterwauling of John Fogerty.

  • So true :X

  • so true! xD

  • lol 0:57 looks like a dildo

  • oh wow

    so true

  • WHERE DO I BUY THIS?

  • creedence clearwater revival. am i right?

  • i don't get it, i can understand the iron particles and the liquids magnetic properties but why does it form spikes when its magnetised

  • well, the magnetic field is actually many lines coming out of the center of the magnet. Normally, it would seem like the magnet just has one circular field around it, but with the ferrofluid, we are allowed to see each magnetic field line. If u have any more questions pm me

  • Oh right, god that was obvious.... i really should pay attention in class next time, i think we studied magnetic field lines a month ago. Cheers anyway

  • Actually, if you've ever seen iron with a magnet near it, it makes spikes of a sort... Same thing with the fluid, just not as sharp, for obvious reasons...

  • is this edible?

  • You wanna try?

  • touch it touch it

  • no its not lol. printer toner and motor oil is all you need

  • For lots more about Ferro-Fluid - search for the video "When I Met This Material"

  • on ebay its pricy tho

  • WHERE CAN I GET SOME OF THaT LIQUID??

  • wtf is that liquid???

  • If ferrofluid gets on magnet, put the rare earth magnet in the oven to make it unmagnetic. If it's pure enough, it should lose magnetism at about 200 ° f I believe.

  • That's such a waste of a NIB magnet though!

  • because neodymium is a rare earth metal

  • well not really "rare" it is used in hard drives.

  • yeah which is why hard drives are expensive, because its rare.

  • Thats so sweet !!!! why are they called rare earth magnets?

  • What happens when you put the magnets from your sterio speaker under it and play some music?

  • god gets pissed off with you and you get struck with lightning, and it makes the magnet super magnetic and the local ferrofluid shop gets all the fluid stuck to you and you drown and they can't find the body.

  • those magnetic particles should consist of compounds containing iron. mainly haematite or simple magnetite.

  • can i get that stuff anywhere else but ebay?

  • That may explain some properties that I noticed. One, it had a smell. I didn't know micro-magnetite partials could evaporate. Also weird, if you add baking soda it turns somewhat blue, as far as I remember. I miss the science I did before I went to college. You can learn a lot just by experimentation.

  • I don't think you can make it at home. I made stuff like this for another reason (thermite). If you take a car charger and hook it up in salt water with nails you will get that kind of crap but apparently when it is exposed to fields like that the partials bond. So the real makers take molecule by molecule and coat it with something.

  • Car charger + salt water + nails = sodium chlorate. You will get oxidized iron too-- But be careful with sodium chlorate. Its hygroscopic but also decomposes quite readily. And reacts to acid.

  • Now, if they could find a way to make the liquid solid after it takes a shape, we would have a new way to instantly manufacture all sorts of things.

  • Alex chui uses rare earth magnets

  • OMGOSH~ ITS SO UBER CUTE LAA~

  • Use a stronger magnet to get the stuff off, perhaps?

  • And if you put magnet and that liquid together? What will happens? Liquid will "suck" on magnet... and now how can u divide it? Its liquid, not a solid stuff :)

  • did anyone else have the video suddenly stop at 21 seconds?

  • Yeah, I agree with previous speaker(far down) - Who knew? Awesoem I must say, though I don't quite get How it's supposed to be used? And yeah, what else has been invented?

  • can u at least use a different kind of music, you red neck scientist wannabe/?

  • I am so sorry! In the future I will consult you before adding the music to my videos.

  • good

  • Do you know where I can get ferrofluid (or how I can make some)

    Nice video TurtleKissinFool

  • A Google search should turn up several suppliers and recipies for ferrofluid. You'll also want to pick up some neodymium magnets if you don't have them already. Just keep in mind that ferrofluid can be pretty expensive, so you might want to try a home recipe first.

  • ya, how would it get in your throat? (do not taunt happy ferrofluid..)

  • it looks great and it's an interesting way to study the propagation of magnetic fields, but the music is just way annoying and the fact that it's all sped up made it kinda unpleasant to watch. Interesting stuff nevertheless!

  • omg !!! ^^

  • It's fascinating that NASA invented this stuff. Imagine what they've made that we don't know about.

  • whoa, kewl

  • what happens if it gets on your skin..or worse...in your throat

  • Getting it on your skin might stain it temporarily, but I doubt there are any long term consequenses. How would it get in your throat?

  • They're thinking of making armour out of ferrofluids. The ferric gel goes in your armour and since it's liquid, it allows you to move around easy and is flexible (albeit heavy), but as soon as you go into warfare, you flick the switch and electromagnets aggregate the particles, making the armour rock solid.

  • One question. Is this stuff risky enough/ dangerous enough to mak/ expensive enough that parents would not allow a 13-year old to make or buy it?

  • I don't think it's too dangerous for a somewhat responsible 13 year old to make or buy...HOWEVER, it's not safe to consume and it stains any fabric it comes in contact with.

  • I have a couple of questions. Do you just keep it in the dish? How would you get it out without spilling it? If you cover a magnet in ferrofluid how do you get the stuff off of it? Does it stain? please reply. Thankyou

  • I keep the ferrofluid in a glass jar and when I want to play with it I use an eyedropper to transfer it to the petri dish. A magnet covered in ferrofluid is very difficult to clean off since it's very oily...yes, it stains!

  • is it possible to buy some of this Ferrofluid stuff leagly?

  • Sure! Just do a Google search for "buy ferrofluid" and a whole bunch of resources should show up. I should warn you though, it's not cheap. You can also make your own.

  • how do you make your own?

  • I'd just search Google for "make ferrofluid."

  • cool, thanks

  • You aught to put some of this on your belly, then swallow a magnet haha :D

  • Drink it!

  • Ha ha ha ha haaaaa!

  • Whats really fun is to coat the bearing in an oil based ferofluid. It is like an oiled baering except that it is atracted to the surface of the magnet and wont drain away. Its almost imposible to wash off.

  • Looks like a short film, "Fun With Magnetic Molasses"!

  • The ferromagnetic nano-particles are coated with a surfactant to prevent their agglomeration (due to van der Waals and magnetic forces). Although the name may suggest otherwise, ferrofluids do not display ferromagnetism, since they do not retain magnetisation in the absence of an externally applied field. In fact, ferrofluids display paramagnetism, and are often referred as being "superparamagnetic" due to their large magnetic susceptibility.

  • shut the fuck up lol u tramp

  • Ohh, and to the dumb-ass that suggested drinking it.... You would die a VERY horrible death depending on what type of fluid base the ferrofluid was (water, kerosene, oil, perfluorpolyether, silicone fluid, mineral oil, ect..). Although the water based might not kill you (50/50 chance) you would be in the hospital for about a month while your body tried to flush out the irons...

  • actually you'd likely die just from the iron catalysing fenton reactions

  • MSD

    !! Cool!!

  • i wonder how it would feel if some1 drank the ferrofluid and put a strong neodymium magnet near their stomach

  • What happens if you pour the liquid on top of the marble?

  • its not a marble. its a neodynium shere. neodynium is the most powerfull kind of magnet in the world for its size

  • That looks so cool!

  • very nice

  • It's the black cancer!! Quick, get Mulder and Scully!!
