  • THANKS ANN VERY MUCH ARE REALLY A VIRTUOSO

  • breathtaking.

  • Hello Ms. Fontanella,

I really enjoy your rendition of this wonderful piece. Your tempi allow the music to be felt at the most intimate level which I feel was the intention of the composer. While I do admit I admire Heiftetz for so many reasons, don't you feel his tempo is far too fast for the music ? Also, what instrument are you playing? You sound like you truly enjoy coaxing the tone from it and bringing the music to life.

  • I would be so happy, if you could come to the Czech republic - Prague and perform for me and many other classical music lovers...your playing is just wonderful...Ive always loved the sound of violin, but you make it sound even better! Please come, you wont regret it, Prague is beautiful!

  • it's my favourite song to. thanks for such a great performance.greetings from Portugal :-)

  • I'm not really sure how to ask this question but what are the notes starting from 1:01 to 1:13? I dont really read music but I would like to know. I love your interpretation by the way.

  • Meaty.

There's a tiny bit of muddiness here and there, especially where it's quick. I thought at first it was the recording, but listening closer, it does actually sound like it's the tiniest bit of sloppiness in technique, notably when switching strings.

I really liked the personal flavoring in the 7:00-7:45 section. In fact, I liked the choices you made in many parts of it. Particularly lovely with the harmonics too.

It's still phenomenally good though. The best violin piece in history IMHO.

  • You are the goddess virtuosa of the violin. Please come to Spokane, Washington and play for us!!!

  • nice but does anybody know a good pianist Im a piano guy and Im new to this type of music hence i like ,Johnny Cash,2pac,Metallica,and so on time to expand my music

  • Einfach die Augen zu machen und genissen!!! Gefällt mir sehr gut.... :-)

  • Magnífico!!!

  • simply amazing

  • i cant believe that 16 ppl doesn't like this piece of art.

  • 7:15 is so beautiful

  • This concerto was not well received at all when it premiered. One critic was reported to say that the concerto was so bad, that it reminded him of the breath of a drunk, ie, "it stinks in the ear!" Tchaikivsky was so disturbed by the reviews that he never wrote another violin concerto in his lifetime. I wonder what that person would say if he knew it became one of the most famous violin concertos ever written? I thinks Pyotr was way ahead of his time with this one, he could have been a rock star

  • ... your inspiration is Heifetz ¿? o.O!

  • I always feel inspired when I listen to the Tchaikovsky violin concerto.

  • Beautifull, it's my favourite to, thank you very much :-) wish all good!

  • I find it amazing that a seemingly simple instrument can turn out sounds that are so beautifully complex and unlike any others heard by our ears. Your playing is exquisite!

  • Subscribed and are you coming to Cincinnati anytime soon! Amazing!

  • sounds like it's a part of you.

  • @Annfontanella Thanks 4 you rmusic=DDDDDDDDDD

  • Sir/Mondam, TCHAIKOVSKY, for Thanks !!

  • what is the name of symphony orchestra?

  • You sound great! I can tell that you have studied from the Heifetz generation. There are certain parts in this that one might mistake for the master himself!

  • beauty has become more and more prevelant in the succress of musician of this era but this statement has no relevance to you and your caliber. loved the paganini you performed as well. cheers.

  • thank you for these videos

  • Great playing and a very "fun" interpretation of Tchaikovsky's concerto. I wouldn't have not it the same way, but loved it anyway! Thank you for uloading! =)

  • i play the violin too could you help in one i have the comcert and there this song a polish haying song anytime i do the 8th notes i end up slowing down even Mr.Johnson says so 0_0

  • brAVA

  • Did you change the notes at 5:45? Or what happened there? (Right before the tutti)

  • Did you ever play an italian violin (Stradivari, Amati, Guarnieri)?

  • Bravo.!!

  • great performance

  • I love this concert. It was performed in that movie The Concert

  • Are you married?

  • Are you married?

  • brilliant

  • absolutely sublime, i almost thoughti was listening to oistrakh!

  • Your violin speaks a language that every nationality understands, loves and admires. Thank you from a silent admirer.

  • @themusiclover1928 , I couldn't agree more that the violin can speak to everyone. Thank you for listening.

  • bello..intenso...gracias

  • It sounds great! I also want to know which orchestra is this? thank you

  • I really like this concert, the violin is the main instrument and that's what i like the most. I always wanted to learn violin....

  • @angicuddles , Go for it!! It's a lot of fun, especially when you begin! :)

  • Wow. Such an original interpretation. I bet it was hard to stray from the expected and still make it sound like it's the standard way of playing it. Loved it!

  • @surfboy , I have to admit that I have my own ideas about a few pieces of music :). Not everyone always approves, but there you go! I'm glad you enjoyed it!!! :)

  • Ann, What favorite orchestra do you play with ?

  • Hei, Thanks, I'm a fan of you now ;)

  • I'm in love of your sound and music

  • Your playing of this concerto reminds me of the 1957 recording of Ida Haendel with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Sir Eugene Goossens, to my mind the finest recording of this concerto ever published. Haendel's version is sadly no longer available but your recording is an admirable substitute,

  • Just viewed the Movie "Das Konzert" and wanted to hear Tschaikovsky again.

    Very Nice.

  • Personally I think is the Tchaikovsky’s most beautiful work, I love all his music but, this is sublime!

  • hello. reading these comments it seems that Heifetz, is the one to be! don't know much about music.. but I'll stick with perlman.. probably they are the same person.... btw Miss Anna.... sei terribilmente sensuale.

  • Wow, Ann! This is your favorite violin concerto? Sounds like it is. :) Fantastic! My favorite's always changing. At first it was the Mendelssohn, then the Bruch, but lately the Sibelius and especially the Beethoven have been sticking out to me, but they're all such gems. I couldn't like any one more than the other. Do you have a favorite cello concerto? Mine's the Elgar and Dvorak. :)

  • I love your interpretation

  • sadly...my violin playing has to end..stupidity messed me up...peopl listen to your teachers...dont be a fool like me

  • You don't sound exactly like Heifetz, but you are a credit to him in that your playing certainly bears his influence. You play with a crisp tone and a vibrato that purrs. I like that. Your playing is technically very clear and precise. I hear the best of many great violinists in your playing, particularly of the Russian school. The most difficult aspect of this concerto heretofore is that while it was once dubbed impossible to play, it has now become over played. Yours, however, is unique.

  • @unclejuniorsoprano, Thank you so much! I suppose that like La Ronde Lutins, once it got the reputation for being "unplayable", everyone needed to prove that they could do it! :)

  • @Annfontanella I've listened to this recording at least 10 times & continue to hear passages of sheer genius. It's as though you've adapted a playing style from greats such as Heifetz, Oistrakh, & Kogan yet you play with individuality. Such a powerful, legato bow. You play this piece as though you were Russian, with prowess & finesse. And you seem to convey the Georgian spirit as is embedded in this work. I will not compare you with contemporary violinists, as you are at the top of the heap.

  • Honnestly I LOVE IT.... I actually wasn't a fan of classical music but I discovered it thank's to the film "Le Concert" with Mélanie Laurent. It's about the Tchaikovsky concerto...

Fantastic! Compliments for what you are doing, really

  • Hi Ann, Thank you a lot! I love classical music, specially the violin concerts because they help me to scape from the reality when I wanna relax. You play so beautiful!

  • Youre so amazingg! You sound just like heifetz! Im playing beethoven romance, and I love your video of that too :)

I have so many years to go to even play one note of this concerto as good as you do ;D

  • @honeypeachpie, You're so kind! I'm glad you enjoy it! Hey, I'm planning to do a free masterclass online in the next month - mid-May, probably. Would you at least like to sit in? :)

  • ...Realmente Ann, es magnífica. Tiene algo que la diferencia de la gran mayoría...Quizá sea el talento, la técnica, el buen gusto...Todo!! Gracias Ann. Sigue creciendo y deleitándonos con tu especial sensibilidad.

  • Annfontanella,

I am not a violinist myself, however have a friend who is. She says you play fabulous and your music is worth of attending a concert. She also said that in this piece somewhere you did not hold one note long enough. :) I did not notice that :)

  • Thanks so much, tnijboer! :)

  • Thank you for the MP3; I absolutely adore this piece. I began playing the viola last year, and I really look up to you. (:

    -Brittany.

  • Brittany, I'm so glad! I play a bit of viola, too, and I have to say, full sized violas are a challenge! :)

  • @Annfontanella I play a fourteen-inch, and everyone thinks mine is just a violin with viola strings, hahah. I'm glad to see that someone of your caliber is humble enough to reply to crazy fan's comments! :]

  • Thanks for the mp3 Ann, it's my favourite violin concert. I love you! xoxox

  • My pleasure, Gabriel! I'm glad you enjoy it! I love Chaik, too!!!

  • i love you ann

  • @sasuke10fan So do i :D

  • I heard this for the first time, totally by chance, flipping through stations on the radio. It absolutely floored me. I had never listened to classical before. I got chills, tears in my eyes and could barely drive. Because of this concerto I've been obsessed ever since:)

  • Saracidal, I don't blame you!! I heard it when I was 6, and I've been in love ever since! :)

  • Nice job Ann! Thanks for sharing this. This is my favorite concerto as I grew up listening to Heifetz's recording - I still has his LP, but it's a little warped :) Finally get a chance to perform this in March with our community orchestra (not the soloist, but in the 1st violin section). Should be fun. Keep posting!

    Regards,

    Anson

  • Anson, That's terrific!!! Playing this concerto is an experience! Don't you love those tutties where the orchestra takes over??!

  • Definitely. especially in the 1st movement. We had our 1st read last night without the soloist. I give props to our conductor for singing the entire solo part as he was conducting. A funny side note. We are using borrowed music and someone wrote "Fake" next to the fast sixteenth note passage towards the end of the last movement :)

    Take Care,

    Anson

  • Beautifully played, Ana! I am embedding it in my blog... I hope you don't mind...

  • Not at all, Nadaniente! I am flattered! :)

  • Great performance! thanks so much for the mp3.

  • is this you playing?

  • Xiao, yes it is! I recorded this last summer!

  • wow, its really really well controlled, where did you study?

  • Xiao, sorry for the delay! This last month has been insane for me! I studied with Erick Friedman (Jascha Heifetz's protege).

  • six? yeah right

  • Best compliment you can pay, Blue! :)

  • Then Thats amazing ann! hhaha :)

  • Thanks, Blue! :) I was a bit of an obsessive compulsive child. Pretty much once I got my violin, I wouldn't put it down - and if you said I couldn't do something.......!!!! :) :)

  • JazzSpazz, you're so sweet! :) I hope I can play in Toledo one day, too :)...

  • que maravilla!!!!!

  • this is why i bought a violin. cant wait till i sound like this. how long have you been playing??

  • SpottedRain, Thanks! To answer your question, about 15 years. It took a bit of work :)...

  • Ann, you truly are a genius!! Your beautiful music gives me much encouragement when I'm feeling quite discouraged. Thank you!

  • Albay, thanks so much!! I am glad it cheers you up!

  • Ann, thank you so much for the MP3 download. It was very generous of you to provide this gift. It is absolutely wonderful.

  • It is always my pleasure, snoozzz. Enjoy the music!!! :)

  • vous jouez magnifiquement bien !!!!!!!! c'est tellement beau !!!!!! j'ai toujours rêvé de faire du violon mais je n'ai jamais osé me lancer !!!!!! bravo c'est magnifique !

  • the theme is so wonderful

  • Isn't this a brilliant concerto, Olefchansa?! It's so tuneful - the only other that is perhaps so beautiful is the Beethoven, I think.

  • definentely it is the one from beethoven is also great

  • Precioso. Me ha encantado A ver cuando te podemos ver en las Islas Canarias. Gracias for your music

  • I <3 It... and the comments you add ! It does pay off, indeed !

  • I am so glad, AC2499!!! :)

  • Guitar, contemporary classical or contemporary pop? I have a hard time keeping atonality down - it doesn't really agree with my system, LOL. I tend to prefer music that is more romanticized, like Korngold, Waxman, etc. Moviemusic is really what it boils down to, post 1920 or so. In terms of pop music...well, I like some of it very much :).

  • lovely

  • ann felicidades eres fantastica!!!

    congratulations you are amazing!!!

  • Awesome. Orchesta is also great, perfect balance.

  • Thanks, voxhunden. I got really lucky with my recording engineer because I've worked with him for a realllly long time (almost 10 years now)!

  • wonderfulllll.....

    tq. GBU

  • Absolutely amazing! You are fantastic!

     I love your videos.

  • Aneves, Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

  • I've been listening/watching your videos pretty much since you put them up and I always come back. It's like listening to Heifetz but without all the pop and hiss. I really enjoy them!

I thought I should leave a comment in case you get too famous to get to write back :D

  • LOL, Mauri! I love popping on youtube just because there are so many nice people here! Thank you so much for the kind words. I read once that Heifetz used to insist on having the mic right on top of him - I wouldn't be surprised if he had been frustrated by recording technology of his time, too....

  • Thanks for your playing:) You make a rainy learning day less cruel:)

  • Kossi, I hate rainy days, too!! All I want to do is sleeeep on them! :) And thank you for listening in and dropping me a line!

  • Magnificent. I love the fact that your vibrato is smooth. That takes pinpoint intonation.

  • Thanks, plagentmusic. I do work a lot on vibrato. Mr. Friedman (my former teacher) would get really mad if anything was out of tune or sloppy!

  • Prego. As a fan of classical music but a child of pop and jazz, I find the vibrato of some orchestral players a bit excessive (broad) and "shakey" at times. The perfect vibrato is a cross between Sinatra's long tones and Clapton's bends. lol Anyway, I appreciated your more "modern" approach to it . Kudos to you and Mr. Friedman : )

  • Plangent, oh, I'd never fault Sinatra. I'm actually shopping around right now for holiday music, and I'm pulling together a mix of Elvis, Ella Fitzgerald, and Sinatra for my stereo :).I've been wanting to break out some of my Miles Davis (like his earlier stuff), but my fiancee isn't crazy about it, soo...:) And Thanks very much for the kind words!

  • Suggested best Miles Davis -- 'Round Midnight, Nefertiti and Mile's Smiles.

Suggested Sinatra-- Only the Lonely. (Nelson Riddle's orchestration is AMAZING!) Come Dance With Me. My Cole Porter.

And I agree with your comments on atonality. It's okay as an accent, but not as a flavor. In my "younger years" I thought I was so sophisticated because I listened to Stockhausan and Varese. Now, I prefer Rachmaninoff , Beethoven, and the Beatles. : )
