i'm not british so i dont have an insight on his politics and decisions. but from what i see he was a very intelligent person and a true gentleman with a great sense of humor. and I remember whenever he met with george bush it was like putting together a paper plane next to a jumbojet
Take it from someone who's lived under a dictatorship and now witnesses the all too slow transition towards democracy: I could only wish Tony Blair was my country's PM. History will prove him right.
Let's not get too sentimental everybody, the fact is that under his behest, this country entered an illegal war on false evidence. Though he argues that he would have gone to war with none such evidence but only for the sake of a regime change. Was it his decision, therefore, to take a country to war on his own feelings? Or his duty to serve the consensus of his country, a country that was gravely misled.
I MISS BLAIR!!! Browns okay, but I really want Mr Blair back, he had a way of making you feel you had hope, even if times were bleak, he could unite this country in a way that no other PM, to my knowlege, has ever done before (Except churchill for obvious reasons)
we have buggered ourselves for a fourth term because of the inner wranglings and back bench stabbings that have accumulated more than wht has been going in londons streets, we now face 18years of wilderness again and will need another blair clone to win us the much needed election victory.
I politically disagreed with Blair in many respects. However, I have personally respected him. His eloquence, apparent sincerity and ability to effectively communicate arethings that I at times miss enormously!
some may belittle politics, but we know who are engaged in it, especially in episodes of MPs expenses and those of mistaken invasions, 'the fog of war' etc, I think we have lost the party a potential 4th term and possibly a lfietime out of government like we were during our wilderness years from 1979-1997, we will perhaps stand short of a few bob or two and definately a vote or two.
Well as a great supporter of Tony Blair and my great hero and IDOL just like u. I agree with your message. Between Brown and Blair, Tony Blair is more greater and better, and I agree with that.
I think the labour party will regret the day they ever got rid of blair, this pm we have now (Brown) is a total muppet! Get used to it, Cameron is a Pm in waiting, the tories are on there way back, God help us!!!
I agree with the Father of the House that Mr Blair was one of the most outstanding Prime Ministers of my lifetime, and Margaret Thatcher is on that list, for my lifetime lol. I never voted for him but I believe he changed this country for the better, on Social policy, as well as economic policy.
He was an excellent Prime Minister and I believe he served the people of Britain with dignity and courage. He took a decision with Iraq and he should be admired for that, it was for genuine reasons and time will tell the outcome of the war. The standing ovation was comforting to see unity and forget party politics at the time of losing a great leader, he duly deserved it. Farewell!
I totally agree. Even though I see myself on the centre-right, Blair did an excellent job of improving public services and our standing in the world, particularly when compared to the final days of the Major government. Alas, Gordon Brown has not done his work any justice. Hence, I shall be voting for Cameron next year, even though he's no saint, either. Ah yeah, and props for the video...v well done, indeed.
Regardless of what has happened during his tenure as David Cameron said, he has made significant achievements, notwithstanding he achievements in Nothern Ireland
Amazing, he went out with dignity, pride and respect.
A monumental leader for Great Britain, and a man I have the upmost respect for.
It's just a shame now that Brown is suffering constant disgraceful attacks from the British Press thus making our country probable to be under Tory rule again by the next GE. One hopes for all of our sakes that it doesnt happen.
If Iraq stabilizes and moves forward in the future, it will be hard to argue that Blair's gamble wasn't the right one. I was against the war at the time, but he was clearly a gifted politician who was a man of his times.
I dont know why everyone hated him - the press certainly had something out for him, in my eyes he will be the greatest Prime minister of the 21st century and one of the greatest the institution is ever likely to see again, a fantastic orator the likes will never be again for a long time
The UK system is more democratic then any other i think, here we vote for the party and government as a whole - not just the leader who we naturally would vote for in terms of their personality which is wrong, we vote on terms of a governments ideas, plans for the future and ability to maintain economic control, in 2005 we vote for Labour and so Labour will remain in power for a max of 5 years (until 2010) only if there is more then 2 switches in leadership is an election called.
I think the UK is quite undemocratic in that Labour can gain a landside majority with just 40% of the vote, whilst Atlee I think won the popular vote 3 times, but only managed to form one goverment due to our first past the post system. Also is encourages people to vote against the party they least want, not the party they most want, remember the vote Lib Dem get Tory campaign?
In their prime Tony, John and Gordon were untouchable as a team, unfortunately they destroyed themselves.
Tony Blair oversaw a decade of economic and political blandness, he was a dynamic and charismatic leader at a time of calm seas. However, I would agree he was certainly one of the best prime ministers and easily ranks alongside Thatcher and Churchill.
I think Blair was the Best Labour Prime Minister and 1 of the best Prime Ministers ever. However i dont think he ranks along side Thatcher or Churchill.
I think Atlee reigns above them all, taking over after WWII, but still managing to revolutionise Britain in just 6 years. Had he had the time Thatcher and Blair, or the better circumstances those PMs had, then who knows what could have been done.
Blair is probably third best PM for Labour after Atlee and Wilson.
I watched that entire PMQ's on BBC 1 the day he left office, and I think it is fitting that he got a standing ovation! Fair enough, I am not a Labour voter, but he has done an immensely difficult job under hugely difficult circumstances. Iraq a mistake maybe, Northern Ireland, to his credit. He will be seen in history as one of the most brilliant and tactical politicians and one of the greatest British Prime Ministers of all time. He has served our country well, hats off to him.
So many positive comments. And NOW we miss him. Well - I missed him BEFORE he went. That's why I started my blog. Please visit it or my videos and say something nice. Why do we miss him so much if he was such a "bad guy"?
I'm not emotional. Don't even cry at funerals normally - but watching this ...
He touched the parts other politicians don't even know exist.
Don't be daft. Parties elect their leader and the people elect the parties. The leader of the party with the most seats becomes prime minister and has the most powers. The Queen is unelected and has virtually no real power. She's just a figurehead.
It didn't when Thatcher resigned in 1990. It didn't when Wilson resigned in 1976. It didn't when MacMillan resigned in 1963. It didn't when Eden resigned in 1957. No reason to think this time would have been any different.
I think history will say that Tony Blair was one of the best prime ministers this country has ever had. Very intelligent and a great opponent for any of the opposition parties.
One of the greatest PM's of our time. He made extremley difficult decisions with our countrys best intentions at heart and must have been extremley difficult for him to do so. It was heart warming to see the way he was treated at his last PMQ's. God Bless you Tony and thanks.

PM Tony Blair was an great PM. He has served 10yrs and 54days. Won 3 elections. Make NHS free, improve public transport dramatically. If it was not for the Iraq War, he could have won an 4th election. Gordon Brown will never reach nowhere near Tony Blair's efforts and achievements.
very good man. he worked hard for this country and those who call him bad names should be ashamed of themselves and look at themselves and see what they have done/acheived for thier country.

the best thing hes done is revese so much tory politics, kept them out for the last 10 years, when the torys where in there wasn't a minimun wage, when the torys where in guns where legal, when the torys where in we had recession, when the torys where in we had NHS cash crisis, when the torys where in there was only 60 sussesful schools in the country, im glad about how much good he has done for us, yes Iraq was a mistake but he was in percuit of nobel causes and you have to give him that
