That's a good idea. Makes sense. In future (whenever I get around to version 2.0) I'll make sure to make that an option. Actually, I was thinking that version 2.0 should allow the user more control over the fitness function in general - all the way down to an editor that lets you construct your own formula. The user could choose to use whatever performance measures are available (distance traveled, jump height, etc) and add, subtract, multiply, and so on however they like.

Oh I have an idea...
Could you make is so that the fitness bars can be made negative.
By that I mean making it so that, for example, distance travel would subtract from the fitness. This would encourage jumpers that stay jumping straight up.
Then again you might have already had that in mind ^_^
Yep, that should be possible. If I do a formula editor it will be even more flexible than the slider bars, so penalizing for distance traveled instead of rewarding it will just be a matter of using subtraction or division instead of addition or multiplication in whatever formula the user comes up with.
it's crazy when you think about it. with evolution everything is possible

Jumping creatures seem to always move it a fairly random direction.
A bit of an odd thought.
You know how you currently have it so multiple evaluations get averaged out.
I think that having it so the worst score is the one that's chosen for the fitness.
Would make creatures more resilient to falling, and make there movements more precise.
So if a specific creature has a 1 in 3 chance to fall on its back, or turn around. Without averaging the runs, the creature would be removed quicker.

The formula sound pretty nice, I'll probably make horribly long and complex fitness formula's. XD That's just what I do...
Anyways, I look forward to any news :D
Good luck

I really like the first camera movement through the creature and the final sequence with all the same creatures springing all together.
