Mother Gothel is maybe my favourite Disney villain. She`s just so dramatic, and got me wondering for a great while if she really cared for Rapunzel or not, and I was curious what the turnout would be.
Great reprisal, easily one of the better songs in the movie. One question; if Flynn was only a little bit away at the time, how in the hell did he not hear all that? She's practically screaming at Rapunzel at this point.. Just somehting that bugged me about it. I know it's just a movie, but it's just a bit confounding in hindsight.
Gothel is definitely the best character in this movie... in my opinion anyway. She is so complex and she is a really tricky character who makes the main character (Rapunzel) think twice about leaving that tower and having faith in Flynn. Plus she has one of the best singing voices in disney EVER! Donna Murphy did an excellent job playing this character! :)
For someone who lived in a tower her whole life and had no outside human contact until her 18th birthday, Rapunzel is remarkably healthy, psychologically. ;)
@RedFoxAce hahaha you have to remember that carrying all that hair around must be seriously annoying and hard to do. and i'm sure mother gothel had to come up with ways to keep her from not being bored, remember all the stuff she did in the beginning lol?
@RedFoxAce She does get exercise. During "When Will My Life Begin", we see her dancing around her tower and reaching targets with her hair. Plus, she gets daily weight training (LOL) by pulling a grown woman up by her hair ONLY and is totally out of breath afterwards. If that won't keep you fit, then I don't know what will.
'Trust me my dear *snap* that's how fast he'll leave you, I won't say I told you so!' and 'No Rapunzel knows best, so if he's such a dreamboat...' are the best parts :) Love the way she does when she says dreamboat haha :)
I love this because the mom is trying to play the good guy, but it seems like she's half losing her grip on her sanity. The anger makes the mom's voice all the better.
Donna Murphy, you've outdone this Movie. Do you know part of why this movie is the best Recent Disney Movie ever? "MOOOOTHERRR KNOWS BEEEESSSST!" First, That gave me chills down my spine. Then, Are you kidding me? She has Extreme Acting AND Singing skills. Whoo. Im still fascinated.
Gosh! I love this movie so much, even though I am not a big princess movie fan. This movie was beautiful! And what I love about this movie is the facial expressions! They did great on this! And mother Gothel has to be one of my favorite Disney villains.
Mother Gothel isn't exactly EVIL in the beginning per say...just exteremely selfish & manipulative. By the end though, you're like "DAMN, CRAZY WOMAN!"
First part that I really like is how she swipes her hand across Rapunzel's face. That was a bit under played but it fit so well. "Trust me my dear, that's how fast he'll leave you!" with the snap. That gave me chills. The other part: "If he's such a dreamboat go and put him, to the test! her face when she spits the word 'test', how serious and angry it looked. They put so much emotion into her faces it was amazing. That and cape swish~

mother gothel reminds me of Zira (Lion King II) And Lady Tremaine (Cinerella) put to gether they used their son/ daughter's for what was their's and what was right and used it for themselves soooo mean !!!
this is the best song in disney ever! i also how it captures Gothel's evil side... the fog all around them set the mood and also all the expressions she gave into the performance... Gothel is probably one of the best disney villains ever i mean what other disney villain is voiced by one of the best Broadway actresses ever!
There is something that I never understood. Mother Gothel used Rapunzel to stay young, but why bother staying young? she was already old to begin with and I didn't see a man in her life at all :/

I liked this song, but it was the only thing I liked about this movie, the rest of it was a BIG LET DOWN! I didn't like how they changed the story and everything, they ruined a classic fairy tale, and just took all the romance and fantasy out of it, SHAME ON YOU DISNEY!
This is one of the best parts of this movie. You can see the anger, outrage in Mother Gothel and when she says, "Put him to the test" you can see how disgusted she is with Rapunzel. This movie was brilliant just not as "blow you away" as Pixar but much more subtle in is success. The animation working with the actors singing is the best voice work I've seen yet!
Okay I love this movie for three reasons: this movie was a combination of Beauty and the Beast magic, Little Mermaid/ Beauty and the Beast love plot, and Gothel is just a human form of Ursula....Gosh I'm such a Disney fanatic.

I love how they show her slow age progression throughout the movie since she doesn't get to use Repunzel's hair after she runs away. You can't really tell in this vid, but she has bray strands starting to show. And dude....her true "evil" face comes out at 0:32 "Put him..TO THE TEST!" and at 0:45
If I had to guess what fusion of Disney villains Gothel is, I'd have to say: Frollo, Ursula, Scar. Cause their all manipulators! And the person playing her voice is SO awesome! I wouldn't be surprised if she got more voice over jobs in the future.
the voice of mother gothel is on broadway, in fact, she is a broadway legend. Donna Murphy has won 2 tonys for best actress in a musical, I adore her and she was perfect in this role, I applauded after this song...
Mother Gothel is the best disney villain ever! she has the song insulting the main character yet still persuading her to do what she want of ursula. a child who she raised as her own making the world seem like a bad place of frollo. she attacks the princess on her birthday like malnifecnet. She is manipulative, incredably smart, a good liar, a think on the spot sort of girl and... she loved rupunzel. she did, she died because she let rupunzel save flynn so rupunzel would go willingly with her
I absolutely love the animation in this film. If all CG movies were this beautifully animated, I wouldn't have such a problem with EVERYTHING being CG
This was hauntingly good, looks like Disney hasn't lost it's touch after all. Just hope they can keep it up and that this movie wasn't just a lucky fluke.
I am from Mexico and I always thought the latin spanish version for Disney movies were a little better than the original, but for this movie, the american version is by far the superior one.
i LOVE this song and Mother Gothel no disney villain can macth her i swear i have both of her songs on my ipod and it showed how many times i played them and no joke... it said i played them 300 times! now that is disney magic!
She's like one of the best disney villains. She could pass for any other person you could know. And she's subtle enough (When she's not singing) that her actions can go unnoticed, and that shows on screen. The fact that she's a great singer makes her all the more memorable.
People can say what they want about this movie, it was actually really good. One of those movies that you'd think would be a cookie cutter fast food disney movie.

She took Rapunzel in as her daughter just because it was easier than keeping her captive, which she couldve resorted to without a thought of remorse.
I think Disney did a great job with her role. No pretty colorful magic, just a wicked voice and no heart ;)

I didn't like this movie because they ruined the classic story of Rapunzel, I know that Disney changes things when they do movies, BUT this they completely destroyed, you wouldn't even know its the story of Rapunzel! @TheDjlstar I never said I didn't like Gothel. I actually loved her character. She didn't have any powers but I felt she didn't need any. I know some people bash her for it but as I recall the step mom in Cinderella didn't have any either. I just found that compared to the other Disney films this was a let down. But I respect your opinion. Not everyone has the same taste in movies, so I'm not going to bash you for liking it.

I love how they show her slow age progression throughout the movie since she doesn't get to use Repunzel's hair after she runs away. You can't really tell in this vid, but she has bray strands starting to show. And dude....her true "evil" face comes out at 0:32 "Put him..TO THE TEST!" and at 0:45

If I had to guess what fusion of Disney villains Gothel is, I'd have to say: Frollo, Ursula, Scar. Cause their all manipulators! And the person playing her voice is SO awesome! I wouldn't be surprised if she got more voice over jobs in the future.

the voice of mother gothel is on broadway, in fact, she is a broadway legend. Donna Murphy has won 2 tonys for best actress in a musical, I adore her and she was perfect in this role, I applauded after this song...

Mother Gothel is the best disney villain ever! she has the song insulting the main character yet still persuading her to do what she want of ursula. a child who she raised as her own making the world seem like a bad place of frollo. she attacks the princess on her birthday like malnifecnet. She is manipulative, incredably smart, a good liar, a think on the spot sort of girl and... she loved rupunzel. she did, she died because she let rupunzel save flynn so rupunzel would go willingly with her

I am from Mexico and I always thought the latin spanish version for Disney movies were a little better than the original, but for this movie, the american version is by far the superior one.

She's like one of the best disney villains. She could pass for any other person you could know. And she's subtle enough (When she's not singing) that her actions can go unnoticed, and that shows on screen. The fact that she's a great singer makes her all the more memorable.

People can say what they want about this movie, it was actually really good. One of those movies that you'd think would be a cookie cutter fast food disney movie.
I was actually really surprised.
& Mother Gothel was just wickedly chilling, not scary but creepy. Her false friendliness was just so bitchy and villainous :3 one of disney's greatest Villains.
When she sang this I was just like "Oh... Shit..." lol.

I was simply trying to say, that Gothel doesn't belong with the other villains, because she isn't on the same level as the others, she doesn't have magic powers, and isn't even the least big scary, so therefore she is a weak villain. PLAIN AND ISIMPLE Disney has really gone down hill with their "modern" way of thinking, its just sad! They need to go back to the traditional way of story telling, forget this modern shit!

@maleficentdiva well maybe if you're just basing things off of how POWERFUL a villain is then of course? but what makes Mother Gothel different from the other villains is that she's just wicked, cruel, heartless and manipulative.
She took Rapunzel in as her daughter just because it was easier than keeping her captive, which she couldve resorted to without a thought of remorse.
I think Disney did a great job with her role. No pretty colorful magic, just a wicked voice and no heart ;)

I didn't like this movie because they ruined the classic story of Rapunzel, I know that Disney changes things when they do movies, BUT this they completely destroyed, you wouldn't even know its the story of Rapunzel! And Gothel is a lousy villain, I still think she would have been more interesting if she had magic powers, and a better costume design, her costume design is BORING for a villain! Disney is really going down hill with their past two movies.

@maleficentdiva I couldn't agree more. At least in previous movies they kept the original storyline, just with a twist. This movie completely changed the storyline and was just too corny to handle, the princess and the frog wasn't that bad i mean it was just to in your face about its moral.

Maleficent was just plain evil... i can respect that but you know i kinda need something more than just evil. but i have to admit it's cool that Maleficent can change into a dragon

@TheDjlstar I never said I didn't like Gothel. I actually loved her character. She didn't have any powers but I felt she didn't need any. I know some people bash her for it but as I recall the step mom in Cinderella didn't have any either. I just found that compared to the other Disney films this was a let down. But I respect your opinion. Not everyone has the same taste in movies, so I'm not going to bash you for liking it.
