  • i lived in Aubrey st, after the war till the late 60s Margaret st school was my last school and not forgetting the baths good job thanks

  • Fantastic to find this. I was 9 yrs old when this was filmed living in Caird Street

  • I grew up and went to school in this area and lived there until 1981. Who shot this film and why?

  • Hi Von

My brother and I shot this on our cine cameras 1965 as a keep sake of our home in Margaret St.....

  • These are fantastic! One query though....at 6:25 in this footage there's a dark-coloured 'Arrow'-model Singer Vogue. These didn't go on sale until October 1966!!!

  • @davlin2 i was born and raised in queens road at the excact spot where you filmed opposite the flats which i remember getting built,so many memories of margie street baths, grants gardens, everton red triangle.the footage brings it all back to life, thanks pal.

  • A big thank you for posting this. I lived in Spurgeon Street, was only 4 when this was taken but i sure remember so much when i was a child.

    I remember Margret street baths.

    Thanks again for sharing.

My pleasure and I'm glad you enjoyed it.

  • I lived in Eastbourne st at the top of Everton Brow, Seeing Margret St reminded me that no matter how filthy you were if your feet were clean you could go swimming! 3d for a swim 6d for a bath with soap and a towel

I have sent the link to my brother in the USA.

    Thanks

    Steve

Glad you liked it and I hope your brother enjoys the memories.

  • I can't wait to show these to my Mum and Dad.

  • Hi adman

It's great to hear from people who lived in the areas of the vid.....it somehow makes it a lot more personal and helps to bring it all to life again.

Glad you enjoyed it and Hughes St. ...you are correct in the assumptions of Churches in background and far distance shots.

Have a great time over xmas to you and all your family.

    Dave

  • Davlin mate, you are a star for posting this video! Like Tiny wrote, it's an excellent piece of the social history of Liverpool. I almost fell off my chair when I saw Hughes Street! That was were I lived as kid in number 16. I saw SFX church in the background, but I think I also caught a few glimpses of Emmanuel Church on West Derby Rd.

  • Hi Damian

    Glad you like it

    cheers

  • Excellent social history of Liverpool - I grew up in those streets - I use to use Margeret street baths - You showed the shops and the water tower. Memories came flooding back. I think I will do a video of then and now ! It would be good to compare the streets and places (The ones that are left) to the area now ! We just took slums for granted in those days. What does come across is how smart the lads use to be ! Shirt and tie and tailor made suits, We saved up for months for a suit. 5 woodies !

  • Hi "tiny"

    I'm pleased you liked it.

I too was a user of baths and we did look smarter in those days especially on a Sunday.

Yep all had to "made to measure" and cost a bloody fortune....I think "Jacksons" was one of the most used by us.......5 woodies please or maybe a loosie.....lol

  • Boss lad! Great pics.

  • Brilliant !!

    Love it too bits !!

    Especially Hughes Street !!!!!!

    Thanks for sharing.

  • What memories! Igrew up in Aber st and I am now 55 yrs old but it seems like yesterday we were playing footy in the street and exploring the "bombdies"
