Thanks for the upload, brings back so many memories! I had a lime green GT dyno comp. w/ white mags, front and back pegs, rotor. and a layed back seat. So many great times! Rode all day long!
Haro, Hutch, Redline, Mongoose, Gt all compting with each other!
My GT Performer will outlast any new BMX bike these days quality went down the drain! Fit bikes and eastern ad oddessy and all those bikes are all made in tiwan and china all my GT parts are made in the U.S.A! Old school BMX bikes are beter!
this shit is cool, im a modern bmx rider and i just think these bikes are so different and fun to ride, WHERE CAN I GET AN OLD SCHOOL BMX like a haro or a mongoose
You'll get robbed for this bike. This was the day when bmx was 800 + and not wal-mart mongooses 350. I got jacked for mine at 15 and my father stuck his nine in the jackers face to get it back. I had no more problems after that.
@rookiecopIT Basically. The white wall tires, the huge sprockets, the long seat posts, the retarded bars, plastic wheels and the one-peice cranks. Compare it to a modern day easter or a fit. Maybe its just my generation, but I hate how the older bikes look.
what? these aren't used for bmx, but they were.honestly you sound like you know nothing about modern day bikes as much as you may think you do. White wall tires are STILL being made, by animal, duo, and eclat . One piece cranks were all there was back then. Those retarded bars are what formed into 2 piece bars used now. And long seat posts were good for what tricks were done then. And huge sprockets are still better for racing. I ride bmx now, but you've got to know it roots..
@Spenlard Actually, there were a lot of 3 piece cranks back then - Sugino 400, Maxi-Cross, Flight Series 401, Profile, Bullseye, Shimano, Hutch, Mongoose Pro Class, White Industries Eno - and the list goes on. With that being said, you seem to know very little about the roots of BMX or the awesome components that made up the greatest era of BMX. With the exception of the Pro Class and Eno cranks I mentioned, I used and raced on every one of those other cranks - so they were definitely around.
@Spenlard Yes and no... the 3 piece crank was very popular, but not everyone could afford the "best" these companies had to offer. I know I had to pay for my first pair of 1st generation Profile cranks, just so my parents knew that I was serious about BMX racing. The rest I used, like most of the guys that I raced with and against, were obtained through swap meets at all the local tracks. It was a great time to race... you could literally run new gear ever week because of these swap meets.
yeahh, my old bmx mags have such cheap parts you cant even compare to nowadays prices. I actually know a few people with redline flights and OG profiles on their modern bmx's. It's actually pretty easy to this day to get free stuff through racing. I have 2 friends that've only been racing for like 2-1 1/2 years and have some small sponsorships.
@Spenlard I also had a small sponsorship from one of the local shops, but it was limited to discount parts & frame/forks - if they were carried by the shop. And of course, the family that owned the shop mostly sold Schwinn, Mongoose and lower end bikes! I was already riding a top shelf Profile Champ Pro at the time, so I basically wore their shit gear for nothing! I eventually talked the folks into a Hollywood Series (Pro Star), walked away from the shop and rode a Hutch the rest of my time.
@9999Monster That's sad to hear, because if the great BMX bikes/components of my generation were not developed we would not have the bikes of your generation. The Haro Master in this video was one of the best bikes of the era and still rivals any freestyle bike built today. Bob Haro was a genius, and one far ahead his time in the skills of design, construction and marketing of world class bikes and components. At one point, his number plates were slung from 95% of every race bike on the planet.
@Stevespeeze Since I'm in the U.S. we may have had different stuff. I do not have an '86 catalog, but in my '87 Haro catalog it shows all their freestyle bikes with Odyssey Gyros and FS883 brakes, although they had upgraded to AD990's for the rear in '87.
MX brakes were on the BMX model's in '87, which were called the Group 1 at the time
i remeber this haro master bikes back in the 80's would cost 500 fucking dollars!! and that as back then. never could afforde one back then cuz i was a teenager.

I remember when these came out but didn't it have a stock ACS rotor or a Pott's mod? Maybe I'm thinking of the series after this.

Someone did some nice work on that, but I have to say that it doesn't quite look right with MX brakes and no cable detanglers.
l337pwnage 1 year ago
@l337pwnage
Thats what the bike came with,, skyway sorta made a detangler followed by ACS rotor.

@l337pwnage
ahah,, they were called haro freestylers at the time.. When they were release they had a potts mod and straight cable to the back brake.
The 87 group 1 was all chrome with a blue powder coat front.
The gyro did not come on a haro til 87 along with the bottom mounted 990
In 87 they came out with 3 haro sport models (including the team issue only)
