  • I think it's beautiful that Ani has a child now but I really want to see her make more work. I don't want to catch haters by saying this but I think it's semi right, I think Ani spoke to me more with her earlier work.

  • This was the first time I'd heard of Ani. That was back when it was hard to find her albums in record stores. I had a mental list of all the places near me and I'd save up my lunch money and try to get someone to drive me 20 or 30 miles away just to buy a CD, which she had a lot of, even then. (Oh my, how the times have changed...)

  • @20somethingstories That's a really good story. :) I feel bad, I'm 18 and I just discovered Ani like 2 years ago. I'm in love.

  • @melissais Her early albums resonated with me so strongly back in my teens and early twenties, the way the more recent ones do now at thirty. Being able to grow up with all these funny, insightful songs as our personal soundtracks is such a rad gift. Definitely grateful that Ani keeps rolling along. :)

  • "its hard enough to find somebody you can stand for more than 10 minutes, so, like, you shouldn't narrow your options"...

    that is so ani.

  • @blinkandlaugh agreed. I love her! :)

  • "make me an offer!" <3

god I wish it was 1995 again.

  • She really has a fantastic personality, I think it bleeds through to her music, that's what makes it so intoxicating.

  • "Yeah, Make me an offer!" Hahahahha!!! She's fucking fantastic. I'm so happy to see this, thanks a bunch!

  • did that girl's brother just say "shit" on mtv?

    oh dear, the s-word

  • God, this is old... Her latest album "Not a pretty girl"

  • @toodaloos93 hahaha ikr

  • She looks so beautiful in these clips! Does any one PLEASE PLEASE have this whole show on video? It looks amazing.

  • @mark1800 That was a segment (it was the whole thing) on what was then a weekly music news program called 'MTV News' which was hosted by Kurt Loder and Tabitha Soren, the woman who interviewed Ani. It was the first time I'd heard of Ani. That was back when it was hard to find her albums in record stores. I had a mental list of all the places near me and I'd save up my lunch money and try to get someone to drive me 20 or 30 miles away just to buy a CD. Oh my, how the times have changed...

  • ani was smarter back then... her music was more raw and real too.... im not hating, im just saying.... i love her music though and no body else has ever done what she has

  • seriously, you are never smarter in your past....

  • She is who she is. And I think she's pretty darn great.

  • wow

they used to call a number for info.

anyway, Ani is a wonderful role model for people and there should be more artists out there like her.

  • man, i remember when this album was out and she came to our small town and it was like a bomb!!. after that i saw that CD everywhere, every girl and a lot of guys, had it hahah.(it's a very liberal little town - ashland oregon). i like angry music, but me and her don't share issues hahaha so i could really never listen to her earlier work - it just makes me feel sick, it's so 'trapped' in a small world, not liberating to me at ALL. i respect it though. i've loved seeing her evolve. she's great!!

  • I love Ani Difranco...and 99% of the shit you hear on the radio mtv,bet,vh1 those aren't really artists, it's all crap its marketed an re-hashed bullshit . There was a time when MTV was used as tool back in the 90's to get artists' stuff heard now its the exact opposite. It's about an image or a producer with a "hot beat" or some slut with a nice voice and nice tits. Popular music is just short-lived garbage now

  • that guys a mam dick head

  • Hahah, "nose candy".

    Classy!

  • kurt loder = complete douche.

  • She was soo adorable in this interview!

  • Back when mtv was good

  • does anyone know where to find old footage like this of her?

  • are the live clips from this interview on dvd?

  • Wow, she's so young here.

  • so amazing i love her

its to bad Utah Phillips passed away last month :(

  • I love the interviewer's expression when Ani said,"Make me an offer!" She looked somewhat exhilarated and mortified all at once.

  • I adore her!

  • o ma cosa avete da insultare ani???!se non vi piace perchè siete ancora qua a guardare i suoi video??????????

  • its called "outa me and into you"

  • what song is she playing at 2:14?

  • Outta Me Onto You on the Dilate record, 1996

  • i just love ani i saw in philly and ithaca and she rocks that stage ( ;

  • Kurt Loder was awesome. I really miss him, but yeah... that "little record" comment was a bit off track. He dropped the ball there

  • Whether you think he dropped the ball or not, Kurt Loder introducing a feature on indie legend Ani DiFranco in 1995 is a reminder of what MTV used to be.

  • Excellent point.

  • that's awesome "alarmingly happy" ha!

  • Wow! So young!! *shock* Damn I wish I knew of her back then... (Been listening only about 4 years now)

  • Oh you're so right. That newsreader is REALLY getting to me. "Little record." Funny to see her so young though.

  • her latest album "not a pretty girl"

damn this is old, she looks and sounds so young!

  • The news reader is so annoying. Did he actually say she has started a 'little' label of her own?? fuck off..

  • righteous babe isn't maverick, or warner or sony. It is just what he said- a little album from a little label.

  • If you hate her so much, why are you watching vids of her?? fair enough you have the right to your opinoins but there is no need to be offensive and discrimative! her sexuality has nothing to do with the quality of her music. Oh and "rediculous" is spelt with an i :) looks like you just can't plain spell after all

  • mb4073, you are dumb

  • It is a shame people like you still exist. First you should learn how to spell and then know the definition and meanings on the subject you wish to comment on.

Feminist - A person whose beliefs and behavior are based on feminism.

Feminism - the doctrine advocating social, political, and all other rights of women equal to those of men.

  • Right on!

    Great response!

  • wow, someone actually quoted fred phelps without saying being funny about his ignorance

  • It's Pat Robertson, I think. Not Fred Phelps... and I thought the fact that it's blatantly rediculous spoke for itself. Maybe next time I'll saying being funny about his ignorance.

  • Ani didn't rip off Keller Williams -- She was performing and releasing albums at least 4 years before he started doing so. In fact, he's a big fan (search Youtube for his covers of Ani) as is Bob Dylan. You may not like Ani's music or interview style or politics, but don't label her a ripoff.

  • Whoever posted that comment has no idea what they are talking about! Ani is an amazing singer, songwriter, and musician! She owns her own record label and she is a FUCKIN hard core feminist who rocks and has an amazing message. SO before ne one says ne thing they should check out her lyrics and music..then we will see who is superficial!

  • This makes me kinda' sad. It seems like she used to love performing so much and now it seems like it's just an obligation - part of being a folksinger.

  • This is nice, good video :-) She's so bubby and fresh here.

  • Wow..who pulled that out of the archives!?!? I bet if she saw that now she would cringe.

  • yes you rock ty for this vid

  • i love that they kurt refers to her as "alarmingly happy". priceless.

  • Wow you never see her being interviewed. Very interesting

  • wow, this video is an incredible relic.

i love watching ani's behaviour in person... it just reinforces the power of her music.

i can't help feeling though that she's probably a manic depressive. nobody can have that kind of vivacity all the time, without the lows. anyone else think?

  • god she was so freakin' adorable back then.

  • Oh Ani... she was so awesome in those days...

  • i hate how back then media was all about her sexuality...
