I think it's beautiful that Ani has a child now but I really want to see her make more work. I don't want to catch haters by saying this but I think it's semi right, I think Ani spoke to me more with her earlier work.
This was the first time I'd heard of Ani. That was back when it was hard to find her albums in record stores. I had a mental list of all the places near me and I'd save up my lunch money and try to get someone to drive me 20 or 30 miles away just to buy a CD, which she had a lot of, even then. (Oh my, how the times have changed...)
@melissais Her early albums resonated with me so strongly back in my teens and early twenties, the way the more recent ones do now at thirty. Being able to grow up with all these funny, insightful songs as our personal soundtracks is such a rad gift. Definitely grateful that Ani keeps rolling along. :)
@mark1800 That was a segment (it was the whole thing) on what was then a weekly music news program called 'MTV News' which was hosted by Kurt Loder and Tabitha Soren, the woman who interviewed Ani. It was the first time I'd heard of Ani. That was back when it was hard to find her albums in record stores. I had a mental list of all the places near me and I'd save up my lunch money and try to get someone to drive me 20 or 30 miles away just to buy a CD. Oh my, how the times have changed...
ani was smarter back then... her music was more raw and real too.... im not hating, im just saying.... i love her music though and no body else has ever done what she has
man, i remember when this album was out and she came to our small town and it was like a bomb!!. after that i saw that CD everywhere, every girl and a lot of guys, had it hahah.(it's a very liberal little town - ashland oregon). i like angry music, but me and her don't share issues hahaha so i could really never listen to her earlier work - it just makes me feel sick, it's so 'trapped' in a small world, not liberating to me at ALL. i respect it though. i've loved seeing her evolve. she's great!!
I love Ani Difranco...and 99% of the shit you hear on the radio mtv,bet,vh1 those aren't really artists, it's all crap its marketed an re-hashed bullshit . There was a time when MTV was used as tool back in the 90's to get artists' stuff heard now its the exact opposite. It's about an image or a producer with a "hot beat" or some slut with a nice voice and nice tits. Popular music is just short-lived garbage now
Whether you think he dropped the ball or not, Kurt Loder introducing a feature on indie legend Ani DiFranco in 1995 is a reminder of what MTV used to be.

Nice one, you got me on spelling... Or maybe I don't care enough about feMNists to learn how to spell it? I'm aware of what feMNism is thanks. There are a lot of very talented female artists with strong personalities that do way more for womens' collective image than this rediculous lesbian who yells about tampons on stage. Her lyrics are trashy, but not in a funny way... So they just suck.
If you hate her so much, why are you watching vids of her?? fair enough you have the right to your opinoins but there is no need to be offensive and discrimative! her sexuality has nothing to do with the quality of her music. Oh and "rediculous" is spelt with an i :) looks like you just can't plain spell after all

Can I still label her an annoying femnist? Femnism is a socialist, anti-family, political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians.
It is a shame people like you still exist. First you should learn how to spell and then know the definition and meanings on the subject you wish to comment on.
Feminist - A person whose beliefs and behavior are based on feminism.
Feminism - the doctrine advocating social, political, and all other rights of women equal to those of men.
It's Pat Robertson, I think. Not Fred Phelps... and I thought the fact that it's blatantly rediculous spoke for itself. Maybe next time I'll saying being funny about his ignorance.

Ani DeFranco ripped of Keller Williams/Michael Hedges and ruined their shit with her lesbian feminist propaganda. I'm smarter, stronger, and faster than she is and better at guitar. I'd even say I have a better voice. She makes Indie music look worse than it actually is (no small feat) and she disgraces the folk genre. You just don't put girls in the same group with men like Bob Dylan unless they're Joan Baez or someone who was actually alive in the 60's.
Ani didn't rip off Keller Williams -- She was performing and releasing albums at least 4 years before he started doing so. In fact, he's a big fan (search Youtube for his covers of Ani) as is Bob Dylan. You may not like Ani's music or interview style or politics, but don't label her a ripoff.
Whoever posted that comment has no idea what they are talking about! Ani is an amazing singer, songwriter, and musician! She owns her own record label and she is a FUCKIN hard core feminist who rocks and has an amazing message. SO before ne one says ne thing they should check out her lyrics and music..then we will see who is superficial!

I think it's funny, 'cause yeah, she's an indie artist who claims to be non-commerciel, but to me she just sounds as stupid as a lot of other american artists out there - like, she seems extremely superficial and pretentious
This makes me kinda' sad. It seems like she used to love performing so much and now it seems like it's just an obligation - part of being a folksinger.
i love watching ani's behaviour in person... it just reinforces the power of her music.
i can't help feeling though that she's probably a manic depressive. nobody can have that kind of vivacity all the time, without the lows. anyone else think?
I think it's beautiful that Ani has a child now but I really want to see her make more work. I don't want to catch haters by saying this but I think it's semi right, I think Ani spoke to me more with her earlier work.
