wow, anyone who likes the 80s pop version over this one must be brain dead. one must be emotionally handicapped in some way.if they can't hear the inherent pain in these lyrics. 'is it cool on your island?' as as sarcasm?? give me a break. u must have never been in love.
I nearly died when she played this in Melbourne, Australia - felt like i'd left the planet for a second......possibly the best feeling i've ever lived through.
The studio version fits the lyrics better, actually. The song itself is not sorrowful and pitiful, it has a bit of annoyance and angst behind it - even the title, the "Is it cool on your island?" is sarcastic. This is beautifully sung though, apart from the momentarily off-key "Wait..."
If you don't treat me better Baby I'll just run away Baby I don't know what drives you To play all these silly games C'mon baby I'm much stronger than you know Sometimes I'm not afraid to let it show When will you wake up I want you more than the stars and the sun But I can take only so much Cool on your island Is it cool on your island
I gotta brand new dress babe Could it make you wanna try I guess I didn't want to notice The stars gone from your eyes C'mon baby I'm much stronger than you know Sometimes I'm not afraid to let it show When will you wake up I want you more than the stars and the sun But I can take only so much Cool on your island Is it cool on your island
I love this version. Of course the recoding is great too. But wow.... i love the sorrow in her voice... gives it the right mood.. its not exactly the happiest of songs if you really pay attention to the words. Thank you for posting this.. i'd have never heard it otherwise.
Why should it have a lot of energy? It's not supposed to be like Raspberry Swirl... to me this version is exactly the energy the song requires... it's about emotion and feeling... and Tori totally delivers that here... it was actually really moving.
I'm a big fan of the studio version too... but when you see this song live... it's just so profound...
when she says the lines "I've got a brand new dress babe, does it make you want to try?" Your heart just breaks with her... and then in the chorus it's just compounded ten times over. The studio has an awesome 80's feel but this is one of the best songs I've seen live.
I agree, gaseki. I think the YKTR version had more passion, or angst. I'd call this the "lay down and slowly die" version.
Whatever, a lot of people despise the 80's and will go out of their way to say this version is better just despite that decade. To each his or her own.
She must be from another fu**ing planet to have a voice and talent like this. There's no other explanation.

We could buy an airplane
Build a home in the sand
You could tell your secrets
I could understand
But then by the morning
Comes crumblin' down
And as your leavin'
Wait

I prefer the studio version, it has this 80's feeling, and is more powerful. This song should have a lot of energy.
Still I can't say that this version is bad...

Maybe I'm just used to the studio version. ;)
