People have always moaned at me to alternate pick more. I completely agree with everything you said. I can easily alternate pick, I generally only do it if I'm wanting to play at a faster speed.

Do you really believe that thinking about what you're doing is better than just doing it? I've been playing the guitar for 10 years now, it's not that much when you come to think about it, and I did for sure change my picking style a few times, but I've never broken down to basic steps. I just kept doing what I felt was right. And I use my approach to each phrase and it's quite working. So I honestly don't see the point here, a better advice would be: find your style. Mine works for me!

blah blah blah. i learnt economy picking, swing picking... but you'll never beat alternate picking (or in fact, continual downstrokes if you're playing slowly) for FEEEEEEL. the repeated movement is like an internal metronome and you can get into it physically.

i found that out myself about half a year ago and i've seen it now in this lesson - YOU ARE SO RIGHT!!!

Question:

I can pick very fast now - somehow i developed it trough ridiculous amount of practice the past two years ... The problem is that the time the notes ring are sometimes very short. I'ts because i don't always pick at the right point behind the Fret rather than in the middle between two frets.

Is it essential to pick Percise before the Fret or do i need to use simply more power?

But I am concerned that if I stray away from alternate I will get sloppy. For years I would alternate pick except when changing strings, then I'd always use a down stroke. I think a lot of people do that. But that's very limiting when moving down a scale (i.e. in the direction from high E to low E direction.) So I worked hard to develop alternate throughout.  I'm concerned introducing economy will lead me back into that trap. Know what I mean?

@flowerdrop1 ...I find myself using different muscels for the economy than alternate. they are both verry effective in their own way.Alternate : I shoot from the elbow, and economy : I always shoot from the wrist, which makes my string muting moer effective. so in other words, if im drunk and playin out, Its economy all the way.plus like he said, its a good jump on sweeps.
