straight up, slint don't have to do a thing to prove themselves harcore/crazy/ so on..... comparing any aspect of this performance to another artist is completely rediculous. they are pioneers of their own art, and i'd like to think they made that evening as special as it truely was. as much as i was there for daydream nation as well, i would have easily settled for this single performance.
Hmmm, I'm actually a big fan of "the first LP" but maybe that's because I heard it before Spiderland, so it had a LOT less to live up to? Tweez sounded pretty fucking good back in 1989 though, trust me...!
I wish I could have been at this show so fucking badly. It seems like so many people in the crowd almost had no idea who the fuck Slint is, let alone appreciate their great music. No offense to the people who were there who are true Slint fans, though, cause know there are a lot of you who were. Either way, Slint played the fuck out of that show.
the mood was diminished with the fact that it was the afternoon and, yes, it did seem as though people either didn't know, or didn't get it. To top it off, the GZA (which wasn't bad) started doing sound check to the right of the stage BEFORE Slint was even finished. (They concluded the set with a supposed 'new jam' that sounded pretty cool, no word of new works though...)
It probably would have been better at night, but I doubt I would have enjoyed a Slint show any less just because it was during the day. So I wasn't the only one who thought the audience looked entirely uninterested? Still wish I could have been there....
I read somewhere that when they recorded this song the end 'screams' just kind of came out, and the singer immediately went and threw up afterwards. Here it looks like they're totally playing for the money. Nothing wrong with that in itself, of course...

"Emotional minimalists"? Excitment minimalists too judging by this yawntastic clip. Virtually all of the footage on Youtube of the reformed Slint is pisspoor going-through-the-motions slop, admit it.
Sure, most of the Slint videos are boring as hell. If you saw them live, you would probably agree there's an enormous gap between seeing them live and seeing them on video.

Hardly. Some decent new material would've been nice though, eh? Instead we just got a bunch of fat (middle aged) guys in t-shirts playing dodgy cover versions of their own music to, erm, fat guys in t-shirts... (zzz)
they were performing as part of the don't look back series, where bands perform an album of theirs in it's entirety. SO GO MUNCH SOME DONKEY JUNK!! or learn to appreciate greatness
Do you just go around bashing on videos?? If you don't like it go watch whatever garbage you want to listen to man. Is Slint for everyone? No, obviously not consider 9/10 people have no clue who they even are. And honestly man, I don't see the correlation between the grand-daddy founders of Math Rock/ Post Rock and going through the motions slop....I really don't
they didn't hate each other on that tour--i can't speak for the past. they're just emotional minimalists by nature and that's reflected in their stagecraft which is what their minimally emotional fans are crazy about as evidenced by folded arms and nodding heads.
please. I was there and saw them at the 9:30 club earlier that year with true fans. these hipsters had no idea what they were watching and the acoustics sucked eggs. what do you expect?
I was at this show, front row, and I'm not a fucking hipster. I've been listening to this record for years. I'd advise you not to categorize fans by which venue they choose see their favorite bands play.

Horrible show. I was there, in the very front, really excited to see this set. I left to go get a decent spot for the GZA and SY because Slint was awful. They sounded great, but they could have put cardboard cutouts on the stage and played the album and it would've been more exciting. This band broke up because they HATED each other, and it couldn't have been more apparent when they played this show. They weren't merely boring, they acted like they didn't want to be there. Nice vid anyway.

This is exciting? They're not even rocking. Just standing there during the most intense moment of the album. And the crowd isn't even grooving. The most motion I see is the bassist politely bobbing his head. This is a killer performance? Really? Perhaps you should investigate videos of the Bad Brains back in their day.
why is it that every asshole and their cousin thinks that they are so fucking cool for liking bad brains?
yes, bad brains are fucking awesome, but it doesn't make you a musical genius to put down other performances because they don't live up to the supposed-impossibly high bar that bad brains set.
different bands, different styles, shut the fuck up.
@thisisntart Basically the same syndrome of when "technical metal" guys say they like Radiohead or Frank Zappa...they think it makes their taste of music sound bohemian or eclectically more superior for some reason...oh well, losers will always be losers for trying to use music as a leverage of personal social status.
I must have been about 15 feet to the right of this guy and a little closer. Easily one of the most important days of my life-Spiderland AND Daydream Nation all the way through- I now can die peacefully knowing I was able to witness two of the most influencial bands in music history play those records out.
I couldn't agree more. It's like the first time I heard OK Computer I wanted to take the damn CD back and get a refund because I hated so much, now it's in my top 5. Goes to show it's important to brave new things.
amazing band

Why so much talk about Slint performances in all their youtube videos?
If you dont like it, go and see Michael Jackson shows. This is fucking music.

I love this song... but I'd rather listen to the record. This doesn't translate well live.

@Tralfaz666 I guess you haven't seen them live (somewhere inside). The time I've seen them there was no translation needed. It was 1:1.

aside from HUM this is the only band that has ever managed to "take me somewhere" simply by the tone and mood of their music. pretty amazing stuff.

Their first LP sucked real bad, but of course, Spiderland and the Slint 2-song EP are classics.
