American Beauty Standard: The Ugly Side of Beauty

It's all over the world.The UK,Australia,all over Europe and Asia,they all have this complex.You can't adopt a Chinese baby unless you have 10% body fat.No more no less.They have this misconception that if you are skinny,you are healthy.I have customers who are thin and have health problems like diabetes and kidney problems.One even has a dangerously high metabolism according to her doctor. Besides,beauty is a matter of opinion,not fact.

It is not just in the US, it is all over North America. You should see how many people in Canada and Mexico have a complex about being fat--its disgusting and sad.

@1JesusIsourLord True. I bet you would find that the percentage of women who feel attractive is equally as low. As a Canadian woman I can almost guarantee it. "Don't read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly."

@MsColdCanada Oh I know about all those magazines, and I don' t read them, I used to but I started to realize that most of those pictures of flawless women are photoshoped, I started realizing that there is no perfect human being and I started to love me as I love my neighbor--without judgment of the exterior. I can safely say that I am no longer ashamed to walk around with no make up and I eat when I am hungry. I no longer think anybody is better than me, or that I am better then they.

We should all stop trying to be what the media wants us to be and start being OURSELVES. As the great Oscar Wilde once said, "Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken." Individuality and confidence IS beauty.

This Is why I stopped looking at Magazines for a while, I knew then I was constantly obsessing over my diet and comparing myself to the models I would feel terrible and this is even with the fitness mags. Now I look at them with a critical eye.

They need to just have a private modelling agency exclusively for this type of girl instead of trying to change an industry that obviously is maintain it's standards according to their own ideals. I fshe did jobs then i hope she saved the profits she received for her education. including the one that she got in the industry.

Soooo true!!! I did a report on Anorexia Nervosa and I know for a fact most girls are starving themselves just to look model-like "thin and beautiful".
