Water's actually a very faint blue. It's not particularly noticeable with the amount of water you get with a sink or tub, but at large volumes it's clearly blue.

If you look for images of indoor pools, the water will invariably be blue, regardless of the color of the ceiling and walls, so the color of water has nothing to do with reflections.

Actually, Raocow, the sky is purple. We see it as blue because in the air, colors are scattered as atoms. And blue is the most scattered, so we see it the most. Yellow, red, etc, are not scattered really so that's why when we stare at the sun, we see those colors. We see the blue even though the sky is purple because of a nitrogen atom in our eye that is more attracted to blue. And thus, we see the sky as blue even though it is purple. Tl;dr: The Sky Is Purple. Water Is Also Purple. Over And Out

@JediElderNishmo Colour is inherently subjective. What defines what colour something is besides how we see it? If humans see it as blue, then it is as blue as anything else people call blue. Of course there is also the issue of language. i.e. people who speak languages that, for instance, have no word that differentiates blue from green, tests have shown that they have less ability to tell the colours apart. tl;dr If everyone calls it blue then it is blue!

@JediElderNishmo What I'm saying is that colours are defined by human sight. Sure, maybe the sky contains more of a certain wavelength of light that when we see it alone we perceive as purple, but when mixed together with others, as it is in the sky, (according to a quick Google search anyway,) if it appears blue to us, then since we decide what is blue, it's blue. If you think shooting me a link will convince me otherwise go for it. But I think we are just arguing semantics now...

The ocean is not blue due to reflections of the sky. It is blue due to the scattering of light when it goes through water. In short, at least.

It's blue for the same reason that the sky is blue.
