@burgerbob39 if you capo the neck near the nut ,say 2nd fret from the nut then you have to capo the fifth string also ,second fret up ,to make it in tune with the larger capo like a guitar capo,its because the fifth capo starts in the middle of the neck that this has to be done separately,i hope that helps.cheers ,jake the banjo.

Great lesson....Why do most players keep a capo on the 5th string in open g tuning? I can't seem to find any information on this question.

It's off the string, just hanging there waiting to be used in another tuning/song.
