Elvis may be the king of rock, Little Richard may be the inovator of rock but chuck berry is the father of rock still rocking and god bless him for it.
I think it is very noble of Keith to recognize the source of all R&R music today. Back in the '60s every R&R band in every pub in England played Chuck Berry's music. That launched the Rolling Stones, The Beatles and countless other groups who unfortunately did not survive the test of time. Still, it is wonderful being alive today and enjoying this timeless music. Thanks to Chuck and Keith
there are many great musicians out there- all are great and amazing in their own ways and best at their own songs and what they do. nobody can sing or play a song quite like the original can
During the concert, Berry played a Gibson ES-355, the luxury version of the ES-335 that he favored on his 1970s tours. Richards played a black Fender Telecaster Custom, Cray a Fender Stratocaster and Clapton a Gibson ES 350T, the same guitar Berry used on his early recordings.
Some people are aren't they?! Cos I ow Keith Richards is Keith Richards and Eric Clapton is Eric Clapton..Just as apples are apples and oranges are oranges..the point is they're totally different and incomparable! So why even bother to compare!
Chuck could really play: he is a LEGEND, always did like him and his style... personally I liked him SO MUCH better than Little Richard (sorry folks)...
and I love it when Chuck GETS DOWN and does the hopping on his knee thingie across the stage wailing his guitar lol... LOVE IT! he STILL had it at 60 and Looked GREAT here...
without a doubt this concert to celebrate the 60th birthday of the greatest rock&roll artist is one of the best ever; with great musicians and singers. FABULOUS AND UNIC!!!!!
kieth and bobby go back a long way chucking tele's off balconys and stuff "cock sucker blues" his part on the exile on main street album was exceptional!
upon hearing this music it's hard to sit still and start swinging through the house....but what would the neigbours say......ah to hell with them SHAKE IT BABY!!!! Chuck rock on.
Ask him,ask the band...how much do you know of Keith Richards (who also used Richard)It's an affectionate nickname! sheesh.....I'm 55 now, known him as Keef for aw 40 years or so!
"Campaign shoutin' like a southern diplomat!" "Mabelline. Why can't you be true? You done started back doing the things you used to do!" Listen to the words! One hundred years from now, Chuck Berry will be known as one of America's greatest poets. The lyrics to the songs he has written are amazing. The music that goes along with the words is his everlasting gift to all of us.
I couldn't agree more,it's on a par with Woodie Guthrie and and others for certain.I love the conversational aspect,it just rolls out and you can see those things he describes!
BTW,that was me on my other channel. The band all refer to him in this way !They ARE Londoners after all.Geez is he not one of the "Glimmer Twins" anymore either? Sorry I just saw 1994 so am presuming that may be your birth year, which would explain why you may not know of these things!I adore Keith Richards, "The human riff" and on the Two occassions I was lucky enough to meet him,all and sundry backstage referred to him as KEEF,maybe some reading up?
at 2:15 he plays a chord doing "bam bam bam" then he laughs at what he just did......they don;t make them like they used to.....what an amazing soul this guy is!!
hey, i LUV keith, so don't go dissin' him ;) but no one can do this song like CHUCK!! As for the snotty post from bligh1770 regarding Chuck's appearance, let me say this in the words of Bob Dylan: you're an idiot, babe!
They wouldn't have played together if Chuck thought that! Keith got Chuck the first band that had rehearsed and played in tune(mostly),he'd ever had! They love each other!
No, it's a well-known fact that Chuck plays with everybody and anybody, often hiring a local garage band in the town he's playing in. He's clearly being diplomatic so as not to piss off Keith, and the playing is so far superior to Keith's.
You are not listening carefully enough then.Chuck is out quite a bit in this and it is his MD KEEF who reigns him in! There is no doubt that Keith Richards bases most of his riffs on Chucks! But in the long run it all comes from the Blues and to quote Chuck,"There aint nothin' new under the Sun baby"! Why compare apples and oranges, they're equally delicious,in different ways!
No, Keith clearly is imaginatively limited, and can't get the trill right at the beginning of the intro to the song. You're supposed to start the trill from above, like Chuck does, though it's harder to do. Keith, when he can't get it, gives a look of jealousy that's unmistakable.
Hey I aggree that Chuck can achieve that also, and I also think the original is always the best! I suggest you watch the movie,if you haven't seen it(Hail,Hail RocknROll~Delilah productions)There is a tremendous amount of grudging admiration from Keith towards Chuck and vice versa,BUT Chuck recognises this as does Keith.
(cont.)There's a wonderful scene where Keef, tries & tries to play the start of Johnny B Goode,& just cant get it..an interesting look there too!Looks are open to individual interpretation,I called that funny..exchanging humour and the reason was because CB wanted to change keys mid song. Why compare,I love Keef and Chuck and fully accept that the majority of Keefs POP riffs are CB inspired. He also has numerous skills that are his own.
(cont.)I manage a few bands atm, maybe you can email some of YOUR music?BTW the "look" you refer to relates to a rehearsal scene earlier in the movie. That's what happens, when things are taken out of context!Anyway it aint a competition,it's a gift to Chuck from Keef.....holes in music and imperfections are what makes live so enjoyable for me!
In that particular movie he tells that he started doing it at 5 and his mother would ask him to amuse visitors with it.Apparently it came back some 20 years later, onstage and he kept it! Nobody else can do it like Chuck!
BTW, dont be such a fuckwit,if ya aint sweating ,ya aint played good and hard enough.....it's called Rock n Roll! When you're up there on stage, gigging on your 60th Birthday, please do send a pic for comparative purposes! Just send it dont come back!
Merecido homenaje, que pago Keith Richards, al padre del rock and roll.
