I had the opportunity to read JESUS, INTERRUPTED. I agree with some of his arguments, but not all of them. I am not the fondest fan of his literalistic interpretation of the Bible (such as certain Christian morals can be disregarded because the writers did not really know what they were talking about). I like Margaret Barker's liberal Bible studies of the Old Testament better because she includes the spiritual importance of the text.
Oh I see, so, shall we go with the Catholic or Protestant version? LOL! I'm Mormon, therefor that's the version I share. Is that too difficult to understad?
I agree with you that the faith needs to be explored and tested but all must be put into context. 1 tim 3:16 is not a proof text for the divinity of Christ. There are many other passages. AND, what the book says about that text may or may not be true. Ehrman is taking what he sees in 1 manuscript and making a big deal out of it.
No scholar who translates uses 1 manuscript of a text because there are hundreds if not thousands he can go to. A translation is made after extensive study of all relevant manuscripts of a passage.
Dr. Ehrman is not in the main. He is in his own grouve and has a unique veiw of text ciriticism. I don't agree with him and his process. His process leads to the wrong conclusions. You can see my complete ocmments here: /watch?v=2GEwPB-fUi4 . Add to your youtube URL after com.
As a student at UNC I have had the opportunity to take several of Ehrman's classes, and he certainly is a captivating writer and lecturer. But you've pretty much summed up my view of him. It's valuable to accept his challenge and engage yourself with the textual problems. But unfortunately he only includes evidence that supports his theories. Nevertheless, I would also recommend reading his book "God's Problem". It really lets you get inside his head, and why he lost his faith. It's tragic.
Thank you for the response here. I shall have to check into that book. I have been an Ehrman fan for quite a while. His scholarship is enormously interesting to me, and not always because I agree with him either. Good luck in your classes!
excellent ! I have his text book and also his reader on NT texts. Everything was real informative. I like him because he is straight to the point. This book was a great read. I have his book God's problem coming in the mail for Christmas from my brother in law. His lectures are excellent also.
I have this and a few of his Teaching Company lectures and his book Gods Problem on Audio and I look forward to listening to them, thanks for the review!
It's more about personality. A woman will become accustomed to your beard if she likes you. Some chicks are immediately intrigued by facial hair. There's no accounting for taste.
Great Comments and you bring up some good points about how to read books. I believe we should read books to get us thinking. I love the book.

But that doesn't make the truth in the translation.

It's been a long time since I've had my hands on a pair of Tetons.

With that beard, I'd get used to it.

Yeah, a Mormon against beards. Just as amusing as Muslims against beards.
Just curious, was there a "revelation" against beards, or did they just copy the current Presidents of the United States?
minorityop 3 years ago
I have nothing against beards, I have one myself, it's not a birds nest mind you.

If you're trying to catch a bird...

No, I actually call them chicks. I'm 39 years old. "Happy Days" was on TV when I was a kid.
