It is difficult to accept and hear when someone tells you you are not good enough at something, even though it may be true. The way we hear our own voice is different then they way everyone else hears it, she thought her voice was great but it is not, not for any singing career that is. The trick is not to go into this with high expectations (not a first) and if you fail, so what. There are so many other things you can do, things that can actually make a difference.
