No good microphone has "volume adjust". they might have a high or low pass filter or a DB pad to cut the gain. Your camera should be able to adjust the gain of the microphone thus adjusting sensitivity. A real shock mount might alleviate some of the camera sounds but it will probably cost more than what you paid for the mic
If the wind soundcap from the Shenggu SG-108 microphone by strong winds is no much usefull and you hear the wind blowing in the microphone maybe a hairy wind soundcap by strong winds eleminate this problem. Sennheiser have maybe a hairy soundcap for this problem google this.
Bvd Willem Jan
@gijsnoorlander Stil hearing you breathing while on the hyper cardioid pattern (90 degree). You should not expect good directional focus from a Stereo Microphone. By design stereo microphones have two individual elements inside which are focus in a Y pattern to recreate stereo sound. If you want a highly focused directional microphone you need to buy a hyper cardioid shotgun mic...not stereo :)
what can you say about the sg-108? would you recommend it to anyone?
gatohombre072 5 months ago
For the price I would certainly recommend it.
Only drawbacks are:
- fixed mount to the camera, so camera sounds and clicks will also be recorded.
- no volume adjust.
The mic is quite sensitive, which can be too sensitive in some situations.
But overall it's quite a good mic for the money.

Is the mic good or bad? I can't tell. I was thinking of buying one.

@ryuvsken For the money, it's quite good. (34US$ at DealExtreme or DinoDirect)
Recordings are crystal-clear and the stereo-effect is quite good. You can hear where the person is standing.
There are only 2 dislikes of this mic:
- the mic is not as directional as I would like. You can still hear me breathe on the recordings, while I'm behind the mic.
- The mic is sometimes a bit too sensitive. With loud performance the audio could clip. I would like a -6 dB limiter.
But it's great for this price

@gijsnoorlander Oh I'm glad you told me about the loud performance. I need a mic that can handle very loud live music. Thanks for replying.

@ryuvsken Last sunday I made some recordings in a church where people were singing and I was about 20m away from the choir and the recording clipped.
Just to give you an indication about the gain of the mic.
You could try to limit the gain of the mic. For the price you could try a few times to get it right ;)
