@TheDeparted112570 Because dale sr was everything that nascar was back then, it was a primarily southern sport, back when they wore cowboy hats and rolled up a pack of cigarettes in their sleeve. People related to dale cause he came from a small town blue collar life. He was a good old boy and a hell of a race car driver, he didnt have to be cocky, he whooped your ass on the track and thats all that mattered. Like him or not, nobody raced a car like dale, give him his respect for that at least.
It seems that people are missing the point....Darrell accepted Christ and his forgiveness into his heart. He became a Born Again Christian. Jesus is what changed him. Darrell is not perfect by any means but, he is assured a Heavenly home now and he has that small still voice within that directs his actions and his life.
Most if not all top motor racing drivers have a strong ego, they are blind with ambition to win.Its a hard sport, with at times life changing,or ending results. Its a highly competitive scene where you are urged on to do the very best you can, young guys dont always manage this huge thing they are placed into, especially going back a few years. Now with managers and teams with huge resources focused in the right direction you see less impending disasters and more highly promising young drivers.
In his day, DW was my driver, a great person as well as driver. A friend of mine hated DW until she met him, then her opinion changed quickly and he became her favorite. You are right, he does not look like he has changed at all.
Kyle Busch is going through what Waltrip went through. Won a bunch of races seemingly bulletproof, checkers or wreckers mentality win at all costs, very very similar in style to Darrell in his heyday. Kyle also draws strong feelings like Darrell did, but he'll come back down once he realizes what Darrell realized.

DW is one of ythe most arrogant pieces of shit there ever was.. he was willing to do whatever it took to get to the top level. no respect for anybody but himself.
darrel was a smart ass and he will be the first one to admit it but he also is one of the most generious people in this sport today he is very passionate
darrell waltrip is a damn crybaby. every year he doesnt get into the hof he's going to cry about it. he doesnt deserve to see himself inducted into the hall. none of these crashes woke him up. he still is an arrogant dumbass.
Im not a religious man but this is still a great story. Even when its not fox sports covering it ill still say the: 'boogity boogity boogity' at the drop of the green flag
I actually liked DW as a driver, but he is one of the worst announcers in NASCAR history. He is not humble, he still thinks it's all about him. Ned and Benny made it about the sport and the drivers on the track. DW looks for ways to make it about himself. I wish he would get out of the booth and back into the car.
@MaverickXSE People do care about the true chanpions, the ones who are humble enough to admit that life is not all about themselves. Winning isn't everything, it's how your remebered that makes you a real champion!
@gojeffgordan09 LOL. I love him. I used to call him "Darryl Wall Trip" because of his accident up the wall. What a great racer. He was my fave at that time.
Kyle Busch is hated because he whines and bitches about every little thing. You can't think you won't be hated if you bitch about coming in second every week.
darrell and dale were down to earth people they hung around track workers and officals and learned old school to make there school new they weren`t stuck up like so many other drivers was a track worker from 69-81 from the old gang in riverside goodrins kids bubbles and green beer drinkers we did ha ha from dick ,dennis.danny.pete jim mike bob floyd graig dan and many other hooya old riverside kicked ass
Too bad he sucks as a commenter, doesn't know what he is talking about and he and Larry ramble pretty much over anything. He interrupts Mike Joy and Jeff Hammond almost constantly to say his
opinions. Yes he is great guy and all but doing TV has nothing to do with that. Some people like me can't stand what comes out of his mouth.
I met Darrell during a tire test at Charlotte in the early 80"s during the height of the Jaws's/Gatorade area. One of the nicest drivers I had a chance to meet, period.
Yeah...take away Babe Ruth's baseball bat and he was just a boozer. LOL! How about taking away Jonas Salk's vaccine and he was just a nerdy scientist.
I remember DW. DW the cry baby, always blaming someone else when he crashed, lost, didn't qualify well, etc. Now he's more popular since he is a FOX TV play by play man. Plus he made some funny Toyota commericals. Personally though, I think he's still a little KY cocksucker (his brother too, literally). Thanks to JR Johnson he won three cup titles. So there's my two cents worth.
It would have been so cool if Darrell never hit hi head.....And JAWS would eat up 3 more WINSTON CUP TITLES. All These mad Athesits Wining all the time.
@Rcrby525 YES!!! Not sure what happened. I can't imagine losing your father, at work no less. Kind of funny that he gets tired after about 1/2 way through a race but his sponsor is Mountain Dew, which I love by the way and AMP, which I have never tried. Both of those drinks should GIVE you energy especially AMP. I saw Jr on TV smashing a gorilla for Christ sakes. What's up with that? Maybe he should drink a gallon of AMP during pit stops. Any takers on that?
@Rcrby525 I said you were putting words in my mouth because you said that just because he won the 500 does not mean that he is the greatest driver ever, but I never said that he was the greatest ever, I just said he knew something about NASCAR. You said he didn't know anything about NASCAR.
@Rcrby525 Correct again man. Hell, how about Eli Gold or Buddy Baker? When I was younger Ned Jarret was the corner stone of NASCAR reporting. TBS had the races, I think. Eli didn't drive but what a love for racing. I guess he didn't fit the TV image and he's out. I still listen to him on AM radio on MRN. OK where did this NASCAR Marty Smith come from? He and DW must be getting something good from Jr. because they "over" love him. DW, a joke? YES.
DW is so full of himself it hurts... I hate watching him as a TV commentator, he thinks it's all about him. If he had a reflective moment it's gone now... his ego knows no restraint.
after 1980 Daytona 500, there was a motorhome pulling out of the track and we were crossing to get back to parking lot. iwas about 20 feet in front and it looked just like Waltrip driving. His face was so intense and pissed off looking...i was afraid he was gonna run us over...he seems a much different person now!
DW is one of the worse tv people on NASCAR why did he say Jeff Gordon was bump drafting in the corner's when he got into Kane? it DW a damn retard or what? did he not see one of the biggest according affects ever in a race?
I'm gonna disagree with you on this one. Even as a guy who disliked Dale Earnhardt (much like people now hate Kyle Busch, or Jimmie Johnson), I will say that when he said something, he said something with purpose, and when it needed to be said.
Guys like Kyle Busch and Tony Stewart just run their mouths more than their cars whenever they feel they've been personally wronged, and they don't come off as a voice to be heard - they come off as whiners.
@reelkena That's kind of harsh. Why do you care? I am atheist, and I don't feel the need to rip on people for their religious beliefs. It doesn't affect you at all so leave it alone!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
That guy who walked up to Darrell with his hat all torn up is just like me. I'm a Kyle Busch fan and the entire sport of NASCAR hates me. HEY EVERYONE, I LIKE KYLE BUSCH!!!!! I don't want to be hated. No body ever seemed to care when he drove for Hendrick, but after he wrecked Jr at Richmond, everyone wants me and him dead. I'm sick of it. You people will have to realize that Kyle is Kyle and he has fans and you should show respect to me and him no matter what.
That could be said of most drivers.... they only had 2,3,4 good years, take that away and they were just average..... Take away 81 and 82 from Waltrip and he would still have 60 wins.... Is that average?
Part of the reason DW was hated so much -- aside from his attitude early on -- was because the drivers he was racing with (and beating) at that time were the "giants" ... Richard Petty, Cale Yarborough, Bobby Allison, Buddy Baker, etc...and his personality was 180 degrees different from any of theirs. It was like when Wonder Boy came in and started beating old school drivers like Earnhardt and Rusty in the mid '90's.
As for Kyle Busch, sorry, but he's gonna be a punk until he grows up.
i agree with you. it's the same with jeff gordon. because he's not from the south and when he came in he was beating well established drivers of that time.
i also agree with you on kyle busch. until he learns to pull his head out of his ass, he'll always be a little pissant.
Yep...Earnhardt gave him that nickname. When Gordon came along all the top drivers were in their 30's and 40's, and would start out racing second rate stuff until they impressed a big car owner like Rick Hendrick. Here comes this 21 year old kid driving for Hendrick and winning races right off the bat. It wouldn't be that big a deal now, but it was in '93 and 94...
Yea the only difference is he'll never grow up. There is to much money in the sport to make him think he's not mr hot shot and there will never a be a life changing accident in todays cars to make that kid up he'll just be an asshole on camera and throw a hissy fit when he doesn't win some meaningless truck race. Some people change and some never change kyle busch will never change
DW is NASCAR! Boogity boogity boogity has brought racing back to America! We loved Sr., and we love to see these new young hotshots win but when you get down to it racing has so much history that every aspect of the sport however small or big at the time brings an emotion to all us true race fans! We all have a passion for the sport and we look forward to each and every race! DW you make us proud! And proud to be an American!
Great video. I hate to see someone get hurt in an accident, but I hope Kyle Bush has a similar turn around after his nasty wreck today in the Coke 400. If he learns to play nicer he could become great fun to watch, like DW was and is now.
I like him, he's really neat. He comes to eat lunch at the place where I work with his family. I talk to him from time to time and have gotten to know him a little better! He also has his own Honda dealership out here in TN. Way to go DW

i was wrong, dead wrong,
TNT is now the epic of epicness with their coverage\
atleast Dallenbech knows what racing is
and explains it well.
Rcrby525 1 year ago

Yea agree defiantly, he was agressive well after this, and ppl didnt like him until rusty spun him at the winston.

DW is one of the worse tv people on NASCAR why did he say Jeff Gordon was bump drafting in the corner's when he got into Kane? it DW a damn retard or what? did he not see one of the biggest according affects ever in a race?
ecbadboy101 1 year ago
i think that is why darrell likes kyle bush ... he can relate.
sandhilldiva 1 year ago 2
Kyle Busch is the closet you'll ever see to Dale Sr. they just won't let them race. But after everyone has that one crash they're never the same
seafinz 1 year ago
I'm gonna disagree with you on this one. Even as a guy who disliked Dale Earnhardt (much like people now hate Kyle Busch, or Jimmie Johnson), I will say that when he said something, he said something with purpose, and when it needed to be said.
Guys like Kyle Busch and Tony Stewart just run their mouths more than their cars whenever they feel they've been personally wronged, and they don't come off as a voice to be heard - they come off as whiners.
Dale most certainly did not.

What an incredibly stupid thing to say! You dont believe in religion? Fine, just keep it to yourself and STFU!
Marshalddog 2 years ago
@reelkena That's kind of harsh. Why do you care? I am atheist, and I don't feel the need to rip on people for their religious beliefs. It doesn't affect you at all so leave it alone!

great argument. "Dumb people thinking dumb things". socrates would love the way you handled that.

Is it a coincidence you put a Michael Card song at the end? The Cards are good friends with the Waltrips.

DW had 2 good years. 81 and 82. Take those away and he is just average.
LT1HILLINGHOE 2 years ago
That could be said of most drivers.... they only had 2,3,4 good years, take that away and they were just average..... Take away 81 and 82 from Waltrip and he would still have 60 wins.... Is that average?
imdmpimdmp 2 years ago 2
yet he won in 85?
SuperSecretSquirrel 2 years ago 2
Yeah....3 races and one cup....average.
Thank you for pointing that out,

Yeah that ranks him right there with Elliott. Average.
Retarded fish??? LOL.
You are so cute.
LT1HILLINGHOE 2 years ago
Part of the reason DW was hated so much -- aside from his attitude early on -- was because the drivers he was racing with (and beating) at that time were the "giants" ... Richard Petty, Cale Yarborough, Bobby Allison, Buddy Baker, etc...and his personality was 180 degrees different from any of theirs. It was like when Wonder Boy came in and started beating old school drivers like Earnhardt and Rusty in the mid '90's.
As for Kyle Busch, sorry, but he's gonna be a punk until he grows up.
BSNFabricating 2 years ago 33
i agree with you. it's the same with jeff gordon. because he's not from the south and when he came in he was beating well established drivers of that time.
i also agree with you on kyle busch. until he learns to pull his head out of his ass, he'll always be a little pissant.
allenrw3 1 year ago 4
@BSNFabricating im guessing by wonder boy you mean jeff gordon.. am i right?
DialgaRules24 1 year ago
@DialgaRules24
BSNFabricating 1 year ago
@BSNFabricating yeah.. i guess that nickname suited him well back then.
