  • Crap, now I want some coffee!

  • Jim Neil

  • Is this not incesty to anyone else but me?

  • @adrianr2112 The newer one is. This not so much.

  • I remember seeing this in the 90's. I never do anymore.

  • Classic .... this maybe the most popular christmas commercial of all time. PETER!!!!!!! lol

  • Haha I still remember this commercial, I bet it would still make my mom cry!

  • Apparently no one makes the coffee but Peter.

  • This is what the holidays are about! Being with loved ones and a hot cup of coffee. Mmmm....

  • this is the one I remember from the 80s, I know they have a new one out trying to dupicate this one but I prefer this one better

  • Peter poisoned them all. Sick bastard.

  • This commercial gets me everytime!

  • dumb ass video. really lame ass folgers christmas commercial

  • Susan Honey (Older Sister and inspiration to Joey Tribbiani--- "How you doin?"

  • How does this classic not have more views

  • I still love this commercial.

  • i loved this commercial growing up

  • Im a 26 year old truck driver and believe it or not my mom and I still cry together when we see this commercial. Back when I was still living with my parents I went on a trip and suprized my family by coming home Christmas Eve.

  • it would have been their best ad, but they overdue it. i'm surprised they don't have the little girl sucking on a cup of folgers.

  • Wish they'd just keep playing this, like the Hersheys Kisses commercial. But then again the kisses one will never look outdated, even if the film itself is definatly not new.

  • I came home to divorced drunken parents. Peter can kiss my ass.

  • Hey!!! MAD MEN...Just bring back the classics that worked instead of trying to copy them...save money ...time..ect..Thanks for the post..Great Memories!!!

  • Should have come downstairs with a gun in hand, "Who in the hell's makin' coffee in here?!"

  • @TheDystopiaInside you sir owe me a new pair of pants ;D

  • Is that Judith Barsi? I think it is

  • @gettinhitched No. The actress in question is the lovely and incomparable Colleen Hughes.

  • This one is a classic... Way better than that creepy incest-laden commercial they're running now (it's been airing for about 3 or 4 years now every Christmas)!

  • A nice portrait of a warm, loving, functional family. Since I work with individuals not so fortunate, I'm glad we have this film to remind ourselves of what families should be. BTW, nothing like a hot cup of coffee on a winter's morning! MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!

  • @colleenhugs what r u doing these days?

  • @KWeiman33 whatever became of the other actors in this commercial?

  • This commercial always made me cry, since my brothers lived out of state.

  • Peter please come home again this year!!!

  • Enjoy coffee while it's still around.

  • i remember this commercial from when i was a little kid :) TV ain't nice like this anymore :(

  • @ICPNINTears4FearsMJJ even the commercials are bad!

  • @southernbrooklyngal totally agree!

  • What a beautiful and touching commercial!

  • how could you NOT like this? 8 people are soulless dumbasses

  • This is cute.

  • "Peter, you're home from prison! And they taught you how to make coffee... we're so proud of you!"

  • So, the family doesn't shower before coming downstairs??

  • I was going to comment on Peter's 80's ponytail at 0:15 but it's gone by the end of the commercial. I guess it was just a scarf.

  • Dude, where's Peter? He's hot!

  • I live in Canada's arctic circle, and flying back to my home of Ottawa costs about $2,000....so I relate to this commercial

  • This commercial meant absolutely nothing to me when I was younger, but now that I go to college 1200 miles from home and only return and see my parents at Christmas I grasp it's full emotion. Brings a slight tear to my eye everytime.

  • PFFF, Folgers can suck on my CHUCK-FULL-A-NUTS!!!!

    LMFAO!! XDD

  • 7 people dont have folgers in they're cup ^_^

  • @toyes2 ur comment could be used for a commercial!

  • buckethead does this jingle better than anyone and he sometimes drinks folgers

  • When I look at this commercial. I think what has come to this modern day. War,violence, drug, crime, sex.

  • @rezajonathan20 Especially since none of that existed before 1985.

  • @chuckcollins Owned.

  • @chuckcollins thats a pretty good burn chuck...but u have to admit that family values have definetely crumbled in the past 25+ years... today's generation of adolescents & young adults are the most selfish generation yet... not many are having families or keeping those values alive... all they care about are themselves, permiscuous (aka disgusting) sex, & pretending that they're glamorous celebrities- their brains r soaked with nonsense...they live in a fantasy world ya kno. just my $0.02

  • @kuhleskind "I see no hope for the future of our people if they are dependent on

frivolous youth of today, for certainly all youth are reckless beyond

words... When I was young, we were taught to be discrete and

respectful of elders, but the present youth are exceedingly disrespectful and impatient of restraint" (Hesiod, 8th century BC).

  • @chuckcollins You know your shit, i hate people that think their generation is more "morally accurate" than a future one.

  • @Bayoneter

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."

People imagine that their time in history is unique, yet it is most certainly not. It is absolutely true that the more things change, the more things stay the same. Society has always ebbed and flowed in its morals and values. This will continue to happen into infinity.

  • @chuckcollins Wow, what a burn

  • @DanielEBurnette Not trying to burn anyone. Just educate. People have rise above rhetoric and generational misconceptions that are continually perpetuated. The world existed before you came along and it will be still be here when you are dust. Some things are always going to happen and we cannot help that. But to realize and recognize the reality of how the world really works and to not become totally cynical and jaded is the true mark of elightenment.

  • @rezajonathan20 We should send cans of folgers to Libya right now. Maybe Khadafi should have a cup.

  • They better hope noone ever comes in that house to murder everyone they all very heavy sleepers and leave door unlocked

  • It seems in the 80s , the commercials were more about the family, than the producti tself.

  • @jaydee624 That's exactly why they are so sentimental, if I spelled it right, today. memory lane of the good ole days.

  • quite possibly one of the greatest tv ads I can remember, along with the Mcdonalds commercial of the little girl at the piano recital

  • I always get teary eyed when Peter's mom steps off the stairs and sees Peter standing there.

  • @Jonnn79 Me too...I always get teary eyed when Peter's mom sees him. Makes me start to cry. A definite "feel good" commercial. Too bad the don't have any of those anymore.

  • Anyone think they will be showing this years (piece of crap) commercial in 25 years?

Bring back Peter. Who cares if they no longer make the darn coffee. it's about the

    family, stupid!

  • @hoesey what do you mean they no longer make the coffee?

  • @shawho Smucker's, represented by those cute little "Aw shucks" innocent boys (yeah, sure) in the TV propaganda commercial, now owns Folger's and I read recently that the "blend" that Folger's made made famous with this ad is no longer being made. It's the law of nature, the big fish swallows the little one on so on and so on... Bring back Peter!

  • @hoesey ahhhh. now i got it... and it sure explains a lot at why folgers tastes so horrible now

  • the old one is so much better. the new one is awkward

  • Who's kids are those, the sisters?

  • I can't stand the new "peter comes home" commercial, they could try and bring back the original cast where peter is a father and him, his wife, and child are stuck in an airport and his parents and two sisters (and their families) are home for a big christmas reunion disappointed , cut to everything working out, and him and his family take a cab to the house, call one of his sisters on his cell, and his parents wake up to everyone there with folgers brewing in the kitchen.

  • This commercial always a favorite of mine. Christmas just wouldn't be the same if I didn't get to see it at least once. Thank you for posting.

  • This commercial aired until just about 2 years ago I believe. I loved when it would come on. 80's christmas look and all. In fact, they STILL also air the Hershey Kiss commercial from the 80's as well.

  • @ssjup81: I don't know, but my wife says she has seen it recently.

  • I was given a tiny kitten 20+ years ago and named him Peter after this very commercial.

  • @TheArbed69 My father (ironically named Peter), who often goes out of the state (and even the country) for work, claimed that he wouldn't be home for Christmas in 2010. He managed to make it home for Christmas a day after I had to nurse myself from a stomach flu.

  • I never get tired of seeing this one at Christmas time.

  • @waterman9465 I hate the fact that they don't show it anymore!

  • you should see him now..Greg Wrangler...handsome with age:)

  • @Beyondisme You are too young to know it, but SNL did that as a skit years ago. Twice! In fact, it was a whole thing about anytime the family was startled by anything, they shot at it. Of course everyone in the whole scene ended up full of lead. It was funnier on video than what can be described.

  • @Beyondisme You just gave me the best laugh I've had in a while. LOL XD

  • UGH! this always makes me cry...

  • bring back the old commericals. I love this for some reason. Peter!

  • I always wished that this was my family.....

  • P.S. I "think" Peter went on to play a role a few yrs. later on the "Young & The Restless.." I think!! lol

  • @phillygrl69 YUP!!! Just looked into it, and the actor that played Peter, Greg Wrangler..played a short role on the soap "The Young & The Restless" he was actually on the show last year as a matter of fact! Still looks gooood!! Merry Christmas everyone!

  • I just saw the "new" Folgers Christmas commercial the other day. I DIDNT LIKE IT!!! Why cant they just at least air the older commercials just for the holidays? They bring back soooo many sentimental memories!!

  • @phillygrl69 I totally agree - the new Folgers Christmas commercial seems cold and the actors -- sorry to say -- are kind of ugly. The original Christmas commercial was waaay better. I love the nostalgia.

  • PETER!!!!!!

  • oh yes i grew up watching this commercial and it was one of my favorites!

  • This remains my favorite commericial of all time. Still makes me tear up when mom comes down the stairs to find Peter has come home for the holidays! May we all find ourselves at home where our hearts are this holiday season (whether we drink coffee or not, lol).

  • @mjoanc You're kidding me right?

  • @Manwithjeep - No, not kidding! Happy holidays and happy new year! I love this commericial!! Lucky for my own son that he was born the year before this commericial aired, because I might have named him Peter (ha, ha!).

  • @mjoanc Merry Christmas to you but don't you think the whole thing is a bit syrupy? I like the idea but what it really comes down to is big business trying to sell you an over-the-top perfect holiday. Many get sucked in by this. Let's keep commercialism out and celebrate the true meaning of Christmas.

  • @Manwithjeep Uh, yeah. That's why it's called a "commercial". The advertising agency will use whatever element that they think will sell more of the product for the client. That can include any religious holiday including Christmas, Hanukkah, or Elvis' Birthday.

If you are worried about being "sucked in", turn off your TV and your computer during whatever times of the year are sacred to you. Then go out and do something truly meaningful to help others less fortunate in their time of need.

  • @Manwithjeep - Of course it was 'syrupy' - but I don't like coffee, so it's not like I ran right out to get Folgers. This story line about family love and being together for the holidays certainly touches on the meaning of Christmas. Maybe it represents the values of this company (a company trying to employ thousands of workers). I don't know... I'm just glad Peter keeps coming home year after year (and he doesn't age either!). By the way, my son is coming home for Christmas this year!

  • @mjoanc A JM Smucker company that employs thousands of workers at borderline poverty wages whose only interest is to increase profits for it's fat cat shareholders. Now that doesn't sound very Christmas-like to me. Just keep watching Peter year after year but keep in mind what he represents ... A power hungry baron who wouldn't hesitate to hire even his little sister and kid brother for $7 an hour to pick and pack coffee. Enjoy the holidays with your Son.

  • @Manwithjeep That's all fine and good, but what does that have to do with the price of tea in China? The Folgers referenced in this commercial is a defunct brand. It was produced by P&G. It no longer exists. In the meantime, there are other people waiting in line to use the computer there at the library. Time to walk back to your tent where you obviously live a low-carbon emission life to save the planet when you're not volunteering at the mission for undocumented workers.

  • @Manwithjeep, a person like you would never understand the Christmas spirit which has to do with love, family and giving of yourself so go back to your community organizing and shut up....

  • I love this commercial.....so Christmassy!!!!

  • DId Peter come home from College for the Holidays and "come out " to his folks...we could re air this with a take on that ..... had a crush on him when i was a kid.... gay crush that is...

  • @timothyj1966 Coffee does not seem like it would go with THAT discussion with the folks. Maybe if they were drinking Four Loco instead!

  • I like my coffee commericals like I like my families- without incest.

  • This was one of my fav. commercials growing up! Still brings chills to my skin. Gr8 Job!. I agree, the actors should reunite!!

  • I would love to see this ad run again....it hit home for me back with it ran & still does. You see I have a brother...his name is Peter & he was far from home & while i was older than the youngest sister in the commerical in my heart i was her/she was me....I cry even know watching it.

  • I love this commercial so much, it's my favorite ever. Please have a reunion commercial! It's so nice to see the people who played peter's mom and little sister posting here!

  • here's the cast: would like to see them reunited on the Today Show or something. This was ranked the number one Christmas commercial of all time for crying out loud!

    Greg Wrangler (Peter)

    Colleen Hughes (older sister)

    Kenneth Corey (father)

    Susan Honey (younger sister)

    Kate Weiman (mother)

  • This was one of the best Christmas commercials ever. They remade it, but the guy who's coming home is almost flirting with his sister. Yuck...I wish they'd bring it back.

  • This is my all time favorite Christmas commercial. Thank you for posting it. I remember looking forward to seeing this commercial every Christmas as a child. I have not seen it on in years. You have made this day a whole lot brighter!!

  • i dont know why but i watched the scoop part over and over again.

  • I love this commercial.

  • I wish this commercial was the one they still played instead of the new one! It was one I always looked for around this time of year!

  • @bnelson7694 THe new one is just super creepy...

  • Wow I'm feeling VERY nostalgic right now. America is so different now. They'd don't even say Merry Christmas in the remake...

  • I'm so surprised to see this posted. I played Peter's mom. It was a special commercial, even though none of us knew that at the time. When we shot it, they said maybe it would run for a couple of years.

  • @KWeiman33 Thank you so much for commenting and for your great performance in this commercial. Your emotional line delivery and expressions are a major part of what made it so special.

Can you help me and confirm when this was filmed and when it first aired? People swear they saw it in 1984 or 1985, but the ad agency claims differently.

  • @chuckcollins WOAH how did you get the text to be upside down like that? At a glance I thought it was another language LMAO.

  • @CommanderB9488 Thirty eight years of computer experience lends the ability to do a lot of tricks.

I was replying to that person's negative comment by giving them a link to another video of mine that they might enjoy more that has been seen by over 25,000 viewers and is well-liked enough to have been featured on G4's "ATTACK OF THE SHOW".

  • @chuckcollins

I found my old date books. The first audition was 9/10/85 at Cunningham&Walsh.

Maxine Marx, the daughter of Harpo Marx, was the casting director. The call back was 10/1/85 and we shot 10/9-10/11, 1985. It aired the day after Thanksgiving.

  • @KWeiman33 Thank you so much for clearing that up!!! It is strange but true that millions of people can and did collectively forget when this aired exactly.

Do I understand correctly that you are still an actress and have also been a photographer for the past twenty years?

Also, may I say that your performance of "Ladies Who Lunch" was terrific.

  • @chuckcollins Thank you for the compliment. Yes, I'm still acting- I was only 37 when I played Peter's mom!

The ad agency that got the spot after Cunningham went out, probably say 1986 since the checks started after the new year.

  • @KWeiman33 Hi!!! That is so AWESOME!!! I have always loved this commercial, it always gats me a lil choked up. I dont know if you saw my earlier comment, but I was wondering why they (Folgers) dont they at least air this commercial for the holidays? It may boost sales, ya never know! Not only that, but its such a classic commercial! I really wish that they still showed it today. None the less, thank you so so much for giving us this wonderful gift of home and love! Classic!! God Bless you!

  • @KWeiman33 Yeah its iconic between peter and santa clause idk whos more popular around x-mas time great job!

  • @KWeiman33 Do you still get residuals for this or was it a one-time deal? I dearly hope you get residuals.

  • @KWeiman33 This is my mother's all time favourite commercial. Thank you for bringing the holiday spirit to her. God bless you.

  • @KWeiman33 Hi, Peter's mom. This was a great commercial, and highly effective: I still buy Folger's Hazelnut 90% of the time.

Fellow YouTube addicts: Folgers hazelnut with sweetened condensed milk....you'll think you died and went to heaven.

  • I wish they would still air this. It's by far my favorite Christmas commercial! It wasn't Christmas until I saw this air every year. It's such a loved classic maybe we should write Fogers and request they air it again!?!

  • @KWeiman33 i liked that they said merry x mas.

  • @KWeiman33

I always love this commercial ! You were wonderful

    Annie

  • @KWeiman33 , when I saw the thread on AOL today about the best Christmas commercials of all time, this one immediately came to mind! It brought a tear to my eye when I watched it again. It is wonderful, and you helped make it! The little girl is precious....

  • @Reavelt I saw that article, I was so happy this commercial made number 1! lol

  • @KWeiman33 Wow! It is so great to see another "Folgers Homecoming" family member on here! Thank you for the posting! I played Peter's little sister making coffee with him. It is so very nice to read all of the heartwarming comments again this year. Given how positive all the posts have been...I really wish Folgers would bring the commercial back!! :) Or even a reunion commercial hehe Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!

  • @colleenhugs Thank you for stopping by again this year. A reunion commercial would be genius! It would be so popular that it would run another twenty years!

Best wishes for this and all your mornings from all of us!

  • @colleenhugs, thank you for your part in the greatest Christmas commercial of all time! You were adorable....

  • @colleenhugs i was older than you were in the commerical but still it was like watching "my" dream of what i wanted for christmas. My brother was named Peter & back with it the ad ran he was far from home

  • @colleenhugs Hi! Wow! I'm blown away. I'm sending you a cyber hug. Wouldn't that be terrific if there was a renewal!

  • @KWeiman33 Just talking this morning about how it doesn't feel like the holidays until we see this commercial! - Ezra

  • @KWeiman33 Then you can tell me this. Didn't they air you "the mother" yelling "PETER!!! "instead of just saying his name?

  • @skyblue515 - I never yelled.

  • @KWeiman33 I always remembered that particular commercial.

It just had such a holiday 'feel' about it, and I liked the way he woke

    up everybody making coffee!

  • @KWeiman33--I grew up watching this commercial and it was favorite! It wasn't Christmas until I saw my favorite commercial.

  • @KWeiman33 This version is the ultimate and should still be running.

  • @KWeiman33 You all did a great job with this ad, and it's the definitive Christmas ad for Folgers if there ever was one!

  • @KWeiman33 Good for you! No surprise here but I too loved this commercial and have missed it the last couple of years. I've seen "Peter" on television recently he he's hardly changed at all.

  • @KWeiman33 No kidding!

  • if the whole family came down stairs and smelled coffee dont yall think there is a coffee bugular in the house........ooooooh wait its only peter coming home to wash his draws

  • I never liked Folgers.

  • They played this commercial during the 1985 movie "Legend of The Lone Ranger" with Klinton Spilsbury as the Lone Ranger. It was played during the Christmas season.

  • @gargoyle2bad4u I hope we were all nicer in 1986 after receiving a lump of coal like that movie!!

  • BEST COMMERCIAL EVER! Seriously, it's the only product commercial that has ever stayed in my mind for years and years. I just love it.

  • 0:56

  • Gah brings back memories... feels like xmas

  • pETER IS BACK FROM BERKLEY AND IS THE PRESIDENT OF THEIR CHAPETER OF SDS. HIS DAD IS A RIGHT WINGED REPUBLICAN WHO WILL PROBABLY VOTE FOR NIXON. HIS MOM IS VERY SUBMISSIVE AND KNOWS HER PLACE.

  • @HEBisreal LMAO I agree!

  • I used to look forward to this commercial every year. If this was in 1986, then the little girl is probably around 30 now. They haven't shown it in a couple of years.

  • this is sort of like our christmases, except for last year when the toilet overflowed and dripped through the ceiling and next to the christmas tree in the livingroom. ah, memories...

  • I dare say that almost brought a tear to my eye. Every year they aired this, it never failed to touch my heart. :)

  • Great commercial. Used to see this all of the time back in the day. Also, nothing wakes me up in the morning like a family member I never expected to see making Folgers coffee in the kitchen.

  • Who is Peter?

  • this is my all time favorite commercial, there is something about it that makes me get a little choked up. They need to start playing it again!

  • I have always loved this commercial. It's not officially Christmas time till Peter arrives home! Classic!!

  • Who thinks coffee smelled and tasted better when in was packed in aluminiun cans than in plastic ??!!!

  • folgers christmas commercial is a classic

  • I just love every christmas commercial!!!! no matter what they sell.

  • @xjpl84

LOL! I totally agree. I'm just a sucker for the whole Christmas season. :)

  • this is prob the most remembered commercial of my childhood.

  • @rapingurchurches Same here.

  • True, how long has this ad been going on? They only recently stopped airing it.

  • @Palexa39757 1986 is when it was first aired. While some recall seeing it before that, the agency that produced it has confirmed that it was 1986.

  • @chuckcollins

86 does sound about right for this. Nice homey type Christmassey commercial. Alot of commercials hey if it works why replace it I say!
