Hilarious fun.. After all, Gerry Anderson's moonbase.. vs Gerry Anderson's UFOs? =) plus I love the starfightter design big time.. reminds me of Buck Rogers
This is very well done, there seemed to be a crossover between Space 1999 and UFO that was neither explained nor denied. I have always wondered about the fate of Moonbase Alpha, that I wrote a short science fiction story for it and posted it on my blog: Millennia later when Mankind is colonizing the other galaxies, the Moonbase is found drifting between galaxies, and becomes the center of some space adventure over rumored treasure. Fun stuff.
@5282890 It is much easier to build a carrier ship without armor. Besides it would be able to launch the fighters before they are attacked: it is difficult to sneak up in space when you have radars.
space 1999 was suposed to be a sequell to the origianl u f o programe but was turned down by the tv station so gerry anderson decided to make it a totally separate thing wich as it turned out was a good thing
Interesting that you had the UFO defense fighter dropping from an orbital platform. Supposedly, the Mark 9 Hawks, 1999's nasty fighter spacecraft, were designed to be berthed at the orbital lunar space station that blew up in "breakaway."
If would be fun to revisit this show. Yes ... it did take quite a bit of suspension of disbelief, but it was always so otherworldly. I always felt transported to someplace on unfamiliar. Maybe it was just European sensibility. It would be quite an undertaking to revisit a production like Space: 1999. And sadly I'm fairly sure there would be very little market support to justify the expense or effort.
"Joseph Kanarek and Ryan Gaudet are currently writing the screenplay. UFO will be their first screenwriting credit. The film is being produced by Avi Haas and Henri M. Kessler as well as super-producer Robert Evans, who used to be famous for being behind the likes of Chinatown and The Godfather."
I've heard rumors of a big screen adaptation of UFO but can't find any details of when it's scheduled to start filming or who's been cast. As a long-time fan of both UFO and Space: 1999, I'd love to see UFO resurrected ... as long as it doesn't turn into something like that God-awful Land of the Lost remake.
Well, thanks back to You...Yes I remember that film as: Star Quest, when it was first released in the U.S. ...Starring Tracy Davis...! Have a great day!
hey...that was great man.... brilliant mixing and matching...oh for a new set of "U.F.O. PROGGZ... be they C.G.I. or real action drama!..sign this guy up someone!
Nice to see the Tulwar in action again. I love the explosion effects. Never been able to get them quite right myself. Great to see you posting new stuff again. Hope all is well!

if you want a ship that deploys fighters wouldnt it be a good idea to have them inside and not exposed as a target?!

For the time, Space:1999's effects were pretty damned sweet. Loved the miniature work - which is pretty much non-existent these days.
CGI ships just don't look as good as miniatures.

Wow!! Was a huge fan of UFO & 1999 as a kid/teen back in the 70's thanks!
Wish someone would do a modern re-make of UFO ... man that would be awesome!

I'd like to see a remake of Space:1999, myself, if for no other reason than to see how they explain the chronological discrepency.

@camuledon If they can re-make garbage like BSG, then there should be plenty of interest in a better show like Space:1999.
Just hope they don't do the space soap opera approach of BSG and the trashy SG:U.

Joshua Jackson will star in UFO, VARIETY reports. Matthew Gratzner will be directing the feature adaptation of the British TV series.
Jackson will play Paul Foster and shooting is expected to get underway in the U.K. in spring 2010.
