I currently have a 4" TeraFlex Short Arm, 33s, and a 1" body lift, im hoping to get the 4.5" Rubicon Express Long Arm, 35s and tube fenders. maybe even 36x13.50 iroks
awesome rig man! i had a 79 cj 5 but sold it when i got stationed in germany. but my next duty station is going to be ft. carson. first thing im doing is getting me another jeep. i think im going with a tj though so i dont have to spend as much on the jeep and have more money for mods. what lift do you think is the best to go with.
@zfreeman55 Really depends on what you plan on doing with the rig. Pro Comp makes great basic kits that will take you almost anywhere. A long arm kit is the best way to go. If you start off with a Rubicon Express superflex, you can always upgrade with their kits.
@newyorkman101 It's the 5.5" Extreme duty long arm kit by Rubicon Express, bought and installed at 4Wheel Parts in Albuquerque, NM. You can email me if you have any other questions. robertsotela@gmail.com
@newyorkman101 the full rubicon express long arm kit will cost you around 2 grandish i have the same lift on mine google rubicon express 5.5. If you have good knowledge of triangulation and a welder you should be fine if you dont i would suggest taking it to a good lift shop and having some one do it professionally. And obviously a quick disconnect front sway bar is must for doing stuff like this
$2800 lift (prolly one of the best lift kits out there though)
$1500 rims + tires
$700 Ox locker Front
$700 Ox locker Rear
1000-1500$ Gears
So about $6500-$8000
Although could go cheaper route with cheaper lift, used tires, aussie lockers and gears well its a different world. So if you budget it out, maybe only $2-3000
@Rancidkidd Your right on the money with your list. Add chromoly axle shafts, dana 44 axles front and rear, warn front and rear bumpers, rock sliders, k&n intake, banks header, gibson exhaust, winch, and the little stuff and you'll be ready to go.
@streakn Sorry it took so long to reply. This is a big question to answer briefly. A short arm kit will be closer to a stock suspension. Generally, they cost less and will be better for the daily driver. Long arm kits are designed to give more travel and allow the rigs to handle more difficult obstacles. You can find many websites dedicated to both systems and give full descriptions. Hope this helps. Contact me if you have any other questions. Thanks for viewing.
Longer arms will give you a smoother ride and are supposed to give you more articulation although the LJ in this video doesn't seem to droop as much as I would have expected for a RE long arm kit...Robert mentioned that short arms are better for a daily driver, that is wrong, the difference on the road between the bounciness of short arms and smooth ride of the long arms is like night and day, we actually installed long arms on to my wifes Jeep to make it a better riding daily driver.
Lol! They did okay. I was really trying to show the flex of the suspension. If you watch part 2, it isn't exciting; but I get through without a problem.
This a awsome video I'm looking at upgrading to a tj and selling my highschool ride. And I'm in the market to buy a tj. And some upgrades. Obviously the rubicon express lift is awsome. Is it a 4 inch lift or a 6 and what tire size are you running. Thanks any help would be awsome thanks
Thanks for the feedback. This is a 5.5" rubicon long arm kit. I'm running 35" tires. You can squeeze 37" tires under it with different fenders, but you have rubbing issues when your flexing. TJ's are very capable out of the box. With 33" tires, you can get through tons.
2004 - 2006 Jeep LJ - Unlimited. They are two door wranglers with a longer wheelbase. Qbynordi may be right, you might be thinking of the new wrangler unlimited with four doors.
got a question? do you have a front and rear ox locker? do you like the ox lockers? I want to get lockers for my zj and i dont know what to do.. Help me out hahaha..
It really depends on what your doing with the Jeep. If it's going to be a daily driver, I'd recomend something you can disengage or a limited slip. It's easier to handle and will save your tires. I have them front and rear and I'm very happy with the OX lockers.
let me know when you go wheeling next!

I have had great success with Rubicon Express. Depending on what you plan to do with it, long arm is the way to go.

how do you guys like the 15x8 inch rim?
Im still debating to go with a 15x8 or 15x10
xjoutkast 2 years ago
I like 15x8, it keeps the tire on better when you air down. 15x10 would be better for mud or sand though, in my opinion.
robertsotela 2 years ago
I like the 15x8 I run 35 12.50 SSRs on them and never have issues.
