Neither is Isom, or Mayking but its still good to look at again. Many a good time out there, and great folks, another world away from the "Jersey Shore Crap"!!!
the only thing i see wrong with this video is that neon a staple of letcher co isnt shown or even metioned a lot of first things started there and a lot of great people have come out of there
I spent some time in Whitesburg in 1952 as a Recruiting Officer, and met the most wonderful people I had ever met. In fact, my love was from there, but she sent me a "Dear John" while I was overseas. It was probably my fault though, but I can still see her beautiful face and think of her often.
I visited Letcher County back in around 2002, and went to a town called Flemming Neon and played music at the vfw post there with some friends of mine and the locals as well. Great bunch of people down there. They treated me like family.
my mother was born and raised in letcher co, ky. i just wish i could go there and see the beauty it has there. love the video and song. mom was mamie banks, daughter of walter and mary ann whitaker banks. my whitaker, caudills and back/bachs and eldridges are all from there. blessings to you and thanks again. kentucky girl from the heart. connie
I love all the old photos and the song was GREAT. Would your band be interested in performing at "Jenkins Homecoming Days Festival" next year if so get in touch with me at shawnq@att.net
I am from Letcher County...I was fond of all of these photographs except the mountain top removal images...those hurt. That beautiful land has been raped.
loved the photos and' video. There is a young lady from that area' Pound Virginia thats making a name in country music these days. Her name is KAITLYN BAKER. I was raised in rural Appalachian in east Tennessee and used to haul coal out of Kentucky across clinch mountain into upper east Tennessee the land of CHRISTY. Lots of great music comes from there and the country is so beautiful.
I loved your video. My parents were born and raised in Haymond Kentucky, My Mom is in her 80's. I remember visiting every summer so fondly. Still have lots of cousins in the area but haven't visited in years. Thanks for posting this.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!! This was a GREAT VIDEO. I grew up there. I left a number of years ago, but this will always be home to me. My grandfather and uncle were coal miners in the mines there. Please post more. It was like being able to go home for a brief moment in time. I can rember taking a field trip to the old coca cola plant. I also remember the old Yellow Jacket Cafe, the old theater that use to be on main street. I'm really dating myself.
