  • 1972 429 thunderjet ran 8:1 @ 209 hp SAE net, everything 72 and newer had lower compression and was rated "net" (at the rear wheels) rather than "gross" (at the flywheel). Some companies had started lower compression in 71 (GM) thus lower it's horsepower rating. A 1970 Z28 350 was rated at 360hp and the lower compression 1971 Z28 was 330 hp (both gross). The almost exact same motor as the 71in the 72 Z28 was rated @255 hp SAE net.

  • @jamielynjoystewart Hey, Jay! Thanks for the explanation of the vanishing horsepower! Net is probably fairer in that it takes into account losses in the drivetrain..as any driven car would have. And the lower compression was the corporations preparing to switch to unleaded gas. Thanks! :) Jack

  • I like the console ;)

  • @gene978 Hey, Gene! Ford certainly gave the Torino clean lines, and that applied to the dash and the console. I agree...it's cool! Thanks! :) Jack

  • say what u want,the thunderjet is 10.5 to 1 compression ratio from 1968 to 1972,in any ford,lincoln,or mercury,produces 360 horsepower......the 429 cobra jet,was only 370 i got one in a f250

  • @ilinveinhettick Thanks for the specs on the engine. :) Jack

  • @5191keith Hey, Keith! Glad you like! :) Jack

  • @7784Patrick Hey, Patrick! Thanks! One of my most favorite cars! :) Jack

  • A very beautiful car, I totally agree with you, Jack ! :)

  • @drewerz01 Thanks, Mike! :) Jack

  • @dodge09challenger Hey, Brian! Yeah, hidden headlights make the car look very uncluttered and wider. Definitely a cool styling element! Thanks! :) Jack

  • @1SteedRunner Hey, Steve! Congratulations! LOL! Jack

  • wow i would love to own one of these. but a gran torino non-convertable. very nice car though.

  • @northsiderollers Hey, Mike! I'd love any gran torino! Thanks! :) Jack

  • A buddy of mine had a 70 torino when we were in high school, It was a plane jane with a 302, but I always liked that bodystyle. Great vid!

    D-Ray

  • @draywanda Hey, D-Ray! I love that body style, no matter what engine...just simplicity itself..and the interior goes right with it! Thanks! :) Jack

  • So, I'm guessing it's just a 429 Thunder Jet. It's the same engine that came in the Thunderbirds and is the base-model 385 series engine.. Still, a very nice car!

  • @Sarcasticscum Hey, Nathan! Yeah, it probably is...but I think it is an exceptionally desirable car! Would love to have it! Thanks! :) Jack

  • @raconter1 Hey is the owner of this convertable here? If so can they email me at goway@q.com please.

  • @goway9999 Hi...I'm not the owner, just the videographer. Unfortunately, I don't know the owner...perhaps they have spotted their car on the channel. Good luck!

    :) Jack

  • That is a very rare find. Most of the 429 Torino's I've seen are hard tops.

  • @jammer96 Hey, Chris! Yeah...I figured it was pretty rare with that engine. Thanks!

    :) Jack
