hey i was wondering if you could help me out. i have a chance to buy a 1993 f250 7.3 idi turbo 4 speed with over drive ext cab for 3500, but if i wait like 2-3 more years i can probably get a 1999 f250 powerstroke. i know way more about powerstroke but when it comes to the turbo idi im kinda at a loss
Hey, I'm lookin at a 1994 Ford F250 with the 7.3 IDI Turbo Diesel and a 5spd trans. I dont know too much about these 7.3's (more of a cummins fan lol) so I was wondering if you knew of any common problems these trucks have or just any general info about them. The truck itself seems to be in nice shape from what ive seen in the pics...
@xktm1217x Get it. The five speed is a coveted item. The only real issue is with cavitation of the cylinder walls. If the previous owners didnt keep up on the coolant or add supplemental coolant additives(SCAs) then i would be weary of buying it. Ask the previous owner about the coolant and SCAs.
@94diesel Thanks. Ill ask him and see what he says. He did mention that the truck runs strong and has lots of power to it but I havent looked at it yet so I couldnt say...
@farmallboy8989 yea, thats what i get when i put a camper on, and my injection pump needs a rebuild. Im curious about seeing what i will be once i get a fresh fuel system in. I also have 4.10 gears
@farmallboy8989 and never get an idi with a c6, it wont go fast on the highway and if you try to go fast on the interstate it will overheat. I have seen two trucks do this both uhaul
If the truck says turbo diesel and not powerstroke isnt it supposed to be an IDI? I saw one that said turbo diesel and it looked exactly like ur truck but it was a DIT powerstroke. What year did they start calling them powerstrokes this one was a 94.5 or 95 i think.
@xxbal1inxx that is partly correct, 92 through late 93 had the ATS turbo, Sept. '93 is when Ford offered the turbo package as a factory option, until Navastar/International ended the 7.3 IDI Turbo Diesel production in Sept. '94, which came after the July debut of the '94.5 Powerstroke Diesel.
i am not positive but i believe you could get the idi, and the id in 1994, my buddy had a 94 and it clearly was an idi based on where the fuel lines where
ya mines just blue because the person who owned it before painted it blue, it has paint that chipped off and you can see that the original coat was black.
would you say these are worth getting even if they have 250XXX miles on them?

what Motor IDI or powerstroke?
GMCboy1500 5 months ago
@GMCboy1500 IDI. If it were a powerstroke you would not be able to recognize things like the injection pump and the high pressure fuel lines.
94diesel 4 months ago
@94diesel Ok good i'm new in the whole ford Diesal but i'm tryin to find one w/the IDI motor

I was surprised to hear a chime when you started this Ford truck up. I thought all Ford trucks still used the scary buzzer until 1998.

hmm, i never even noticed the chime, haha

my uncles 84 had that buzzer, used to scare the crap out of me at the age of 5!
