  • recorded with a slab of concrete I see

  • I'm gonna do what Simon says !

  • Did he say DO what Simon says?

  • @tabseb3 what if he said 'i know i sound insane' :DD @ 0:41

  • @susrev88 Haha, yeah "what if", I'll take another listen

  • @susrev88 Maybe! It's not too easy for me to hear it. Is that what Les is actually saying there?

  • @tabseb3 yeah, audio is quite messy, but he isn't saying what i wrote earlier. i wrote that coz it's funny and true at the same time. btw you might want to check this out: watch?v=eWRn80UOsqw&feature=related

  • @susrev88 LOL, ok now I under5stand... I didn't r5eally think Les was saying "I know I sound insane" ;) Hey, about your link. I copied and pasted it into my br5owser and nothing comes up :( Is there another5 way I can get to it? Maybe a title search??

    thx

  • @tabseb3 copy that after youtube DOT com SLASH

or: the title is Les Claypool [PRIMUS] Whamola

  • Primus Sucks, Long Live Primus

  • the whamola always ends lying on the floor, totally raped.

  • south park got me here

  • I love Primus, but when I saw Frog Brigade play, some drunk meathead in front of me kept shouting "PRI-MUUUSSS!!" Dick... Primus sucks!

  • I clearly heard "what the fuck?" at 0:15 seconds. Kinda goes good with the song. lol

  • not going to lie, this was, to some degree, terrifying. however, it was fucking awesome too.

  • Bitchin'

  • ahhhhhh ring ding ding da ding. fuck ya!

  • LOL Whamola was used for south park

  • At 3:34 I shat myself.

  • Kick fuckin' ASS

  • UP THE BUTT !

  • Excellent, greaaaaaat, awesome, genius.

  • Now I can't listen to Les' Whamola playing without thinking of South Park.

  • started making my own whamola today, hope it sounds something like this when i connect it to my wah and envelope filter

  • I really loves claypools skills on music !

  • wtfisthatlolepic

  • skerik is funny looking and the shit smelling

  • south park

  • YES! Yes.

  • How does it work? Is it electric? I'm sure I can see a pickup mounted onto it.

  • i dont know if anyone responded to you yet, but the whamola works much like a washtub bass does. It is electric, the pick up is down at the bottom as you see, there is only 1 string and up at the top is a crack which you can use to change the pitch of the whamola.

I want one really bad but im a terrible craftsman.

  • Google: whamola lab.

You can buy one from their website for $500/$600. Professionally made, really well crafted etc!

  • Thrilling headgear!

  • check out the Primus DVD, the whamola, the monkey mask.... genius.

  • i saw him in new hampshire a few weeks ago and he used the whamola with a monkey mask on. absolutely my favorite part of the show (except for when he did soutbound pachyadern, i love that song)

  • fucking insane how good les claypool is!!!

  • he pulled it out last night when i saw him was definitly the highlight of the night

  • i saw him few days ago in québec city, canada and i agree with you...that part of the show was mindblowing, but instead of his corns he put on a monkey mask and acting like a monkee! pure genius.

  • He did the same thing for me. Two kids were out dancing on stage as well. I've seen Les Claypool and the Fancy Band 3 times, and only ONCE did he play Whamola. In fact the first time I saw him, he pulled it out, played three notes, then stopped and said "Naw we're not playing any of that shit."

  • those kids that danced on stage are his children, dunno if you knew that or not. They come out sometimes with the mr.krinkle masks on too.

  • @sociopathix I figured as much, just wasn't sure.

  • When I saw them live and he pulled this damn thing out, I thought "This is craziest thing any musician has ever done!"

  • Look up That 1 Guy hes crazy

  • this is on the newer south park theme i think

  • i like how the dude on the sax is using an fx pedal of some sort.

  • yeah skerik, if it's him, uses all the pedals you'd use for guitar(chorus, distortion, wah, etc)

that mic he has is a MIDI i think, so that gives him alot more crazier FX.

    hope that answers you're question

  • * as in Primus.. Where claypool is from

  • haha.. maybe because they do the south park theme songs.

  • this is south park.

  • 17 thats what i meant

  • did anybody else hear "up the but!" at 21 sec?

  • I heard something similar at 17 seconds.

  • Hahaha, I thought it was "What the fuck?!" at first.

  • @JAStewart That Was Really Funny The Up The Butt. XD

  • @JAStewart LMAO up the butt is there que

  • lol i heard it

  • @surfingondubs i heard it

  • @surfingondubs it was what the fuck at 21

  • @surfingondubs they said 'Primus Sucks', something fans always say at concerts

  • @surfingondubs no, i heard it at 17 seconds

  • Imagine the whamola hooked up to a morley fuzz-wah!!! Wicked.

  • this jam when i heard it made me want to liquid pop.i started and my boy was like wtf are you doing and i said "what are you deaf you hear this nasty beak!" so yeah this is a sicky sicky song.i like it! ALOT!

  • are you from kalamazoo?

  • Just awesome.

  • hearing that live is amazing... it shakes the floor like crazy.

  • hmmmm

that doesn't seem like the electric standup bass I have.

But it makes a beautiful sound.

  • its not a stand up bass. its a whamola. its one string and he is hitting the string with a drumstick and he uses a handle at the top of the neck to tighten and loosen the string.

  • Seriously? That's bad ass. I'm a HUGE Claypool fan, I'm surprised I didn't know that.

    Thanks for telling me.

  • god DAMN Les is such a badass! No matter how many times I watch this it still amazes me.

  • im gonna go get me an awsome hat so then i can be just like Les.

    Primus Sucks!!

  • This makes me want to kill kenny.

  • i saw him perform this live in the front row i love les claypool he is a god!!!

  • my friend made a whamola

  • lol at 3:33-3:34 my speakers just went "BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZt" really loud

  • lol mine too

  • Argh! I didn't read the comment before I clicked the link! My ears!

I'm to arrogant to blame this on myself, so I'm going to blame the theory that the sheer awesome radiating from Claypool on the Whamola caused all recording devices to temporarily mess up in the audio, to stop mere mortals from abusing a recorded version of whatever snippet was cut out from the video.

Or, I could just be going nuts, and youtube doesn't even exist, being just a figment of my imagination...

  • might as well be a drum n bass rave!

    sick tune.

  • bad quality but Jammin sounds

  • clypool f**king owns.

  • gotta agree with that.

  • WHOS GONNA DO WHAT SIMON SAYS?!?!

  • lol

  • crazy crazy shit

  • South Park!

  • yeah man, whamola was the new SP theme!

  • aw man i cant wait to see primus latenight set at rothbury only 21 more days !

  • HELL YEAH MAN!

  • this guy is the weirdest mofo ive ever seen..... this kid at my school is obsessed with him but he pretends he doesn't know who he is....

  • i wannna make a whamolaa...youj guys should check out "that 1 guy" and his "magic pipe" he also plays on some other bad ass shit but youll have to find it yourself

  • god playing. What a creativity.

  • afi are fags claypool is a master of music. I doubt its true roo

  • You know what is true? Chicken goo!

and mr. lowmax treats objects like women.

    Roo the certain!

  • this is a CRAZY GOOD song, but WTF IS HE PLAYING. ITS SO KOOL

  • HAHAHAHAHA!....SHUT UP!

  • Didn't AFI let les claypool sit in with them on their last album to help him with like some kind of woman problems he was having between him, and his bass player in his band?

    Roo the uncertain

  • Aren't you usually the one who answers questions, Mr Roo?

    James the provider.

  • no. I ask, and the youtube community comes to my service.

    Roo

  • might be true... I know if I listened to AFI that any trouble I was having would seem less significant after hearing their terrible fucking music. Nothing more troubling than a bunch of untalented douchebags pretending to make music.

  • I have the sudden urge to make my own whamola.

  • Les Claypool is god.

  • he made the south park season 10 theme song

  • he did the original south park theme song

  • It is the modern gutbucket! Cool. I like the idea of using a lever instead of pulling on the stick or pinching the string to make notes. This thing would be great at a drum circle!

  • i like the buzz at 3:30

  • what kind of instrument is that claypool is using? electric mini chello wtf?

  • it's a whamola

  • he created a basic one string bass. he changes pitch by tightening the "tuner" on the very top of the whamola.

  • It's a Whamola.

  • it looks like something at a rave

  • claypool is a musical genius and god period

  • true that period

  • the south park season five is this song

the other seasons were writen by less claypool southpark got the permission to just take this song and put it under the lyrics that he already sang for the first seasons

  • @lazah67 Atucllay The Season 10 Theme From Make Love Not War Craft Was The First. Not Season 5 Your WAYYYY Off.

  • yes exactly and as a fun fact les claypool at one of their latest concerts did the actual south park song, including the whamola

  • does anyone have a video of that?

  • whamola kind of reminds me of the part from the beastie boys intergalactic

  • that's scary

  • woah man... acid trip. nah jus kidin les claypool rlz

  • Mental!

  • This might be... the most psychedelic thing... ever.

  • scary

  • I have no clue what the fuck just happened to my ears but I like it!!!

    Claypool = GOD

  • What in hell...if I weren't applauding, I'd be scratching my head. I recognize that form the South Park theme.

  • thats because they used it for the southpark theme... claypool made the original southpark theme too. use your noggin

  • I was able to see Les on the 23rd of June in SLC at the Depot. It was godsend.

  • Yeah me too. Two of my backbones broke from mosh fuckheads.

  • Did you get any footage from that show?

  • I get to see the fancy pants on friday. I'm stoked.

  • Long live the whamola!!!

  • saxaphonics = awesome

  • boo bap bap bap bedap be dapbap!!!!! i play bass so i think this is the coolest thing.boo bap bap bap bedap be dapbap!!!!!

  • oops i just did what simons says, and i should go clean it up

  • OMG SAX HOOKED TO DISTORTION AWESOME

  • its an incredible song, deserves to be the opeing credits for south park

  • Already is. Watch an episode from season 10 or later and this is the theme song.

  • thats what i meant. it deserves to be there.

  • JAJAJA PINCHE LOCO!

  • this is probably the funniest thing I've ever seen. ahh man, I cant tell what he says when the music stops and he says something into the mic, but it sounds so les claypool. amazing

  • he says "im going to do what simon says"

  • actually it sounds like hes saying 'whos going to do what simon says?' then he later goes 'I'm going to do what simon says'

  • the last one is "of course i'll do what simon says"

  • thats fuckin cool

  • "Fiddlesticks? Cosmic licks, and sneaky tricks coated in hiippopotamus dicks, I've got my fix, Twix times 3 or six for free, hooked on phonix, spastacular electronics, these crazy cats jive with my style of ebonics!" Doth quoted Noah

  • Im glad they used this in the south park theme tune, awesome song

  • kickass concert i wish i was there. Primus sucks!

  • No, it's the name of the instrument and the song.

  • its a whamola, u can see him playing it in the buckethead & claypool live at wakarusa vid posted somewhere here

  • WOAH WHAT THE HECK IS LES PLAYING?!

  • Whamola it's an instrument with one string & you switch the tune.

  • i will do what simon says

  • Of course I'll do what Simon says

  • And I will be right behind you.

  • video and sound quality don't live up to what this deserves, but what can be said.

  • The version i got from 5 gallons was daytime. Its better sound aswell but still killer to watch the man go!!!

  • Whats with the Ram horns? 0.o

    I dig the whamola though...

  • No, the instrument is a whamola, it's not the song name

  • yes it is...

  • its the name of the song aswell smart guy

  • well im sorry then m8, im more a buckethead fan, i haven't listened so much to les

  • The whamola has to be the coolest instrument EVER!!!

  • I dont know what it is...but Les Claypool is freakin' genius!

  • The group motograter made an instrument that uses gears and low paino strings. Sorta the same, he can crank the tightness of the strings and plays it by hitting the strings with sticks. It's cool.

  • It's based on the Tub Bass or something like that, but no way in hell did he create the Whamola, heh.

  • its based on a traditional african instrument, just updated a lil with the lever system and the neck.

  • Les is a mutant god!!

  • was giving to him by fans in VA

  • i heard it was from like africa or sumthin i saw him perfoming it on thursday and tried to figure out wtf it was

  • Claypool is god

  • Hells Yes !!!!

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGv5ONuL-Cc very young talented person. Im so fucking proud - thats my brother.SO big hearth too music.

  • If you enjoy Primus, then you should see:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFXHoMOf4J4

and after that you can watch a video about smoking cigarettes and The Black Dahlia Murder:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9aUGhFkfGs

  • He had it given to him by two fans at 3am in a hotel.

  • I saw Les play the Whamola at a show awhile ago. I guess he supposedly invented that instrument from what i've read.

  • its a traditional american musical instrument.

  • hes the shit

  • Skerik 4 the win!!!

  • i want 1 of these daft things haha
