  • I can make red I'm serious. Last night I did.I found out how to make red so whoever decided to make red a primary color obviously was not thinking.

  • Thank you so much for this video ..you are a very good teacher :)

  • A shade is actually the color plus WHITE 6th grade art taught me that also 3 additional years of art and a tint is a color plus BLACK I'm not sure why but it's opposite of every thing else but this video officially contained false information and I feel she treated the viewers like 6 year olds in certain parts others may not agree but I'm entitled to my opinion.

  • Amazing video. Thank you so much for explaining the color wheel. I have the same one you used from Michael's and I was a bit confused. Not any more thanks to you!!! Looking forward to seeing the advanced color theory video!

  • I really love the patience in this video. Thanks!!

  • Visit the virtuosoism channel to view new colorized electronic sheet music which correlates the artists color wheel to the musical Circle of 5ths. In this format, the language of color perfectly describes all relationships between musical tones. Through the applied color, reading music is now immediately accessible to anyone regardless of experience. It is an invaluablenew tool for the visual artist to see color relationships through the medium of music.

  • are u kidding me!!..i learned this in pre school art class..Jeez!!..colour wheel..ha ha ha ha ha ha..

  • Very informative, thank you!

    Janet

  • Yellow and magenta are mixed to make red, just as magenta and cyan are used to make blue.

  • Thank you sooooo much! You DEFINITELY did your homework and you came and helped us out! Appreciate this a LOT!

  • great video. i 'think ' in color too ! :)

  • Just wanted to say thank you. Choosing colors has sometimes been confusing, but this really helped! Good luck with your channel.

  • This was SO helpful thank you SO MUCH! :) You explained it perfectly and it all makes sense now! Your voice is so nice to listen to. :)

    lots of love <3

  • I just wanted to say thank you so much for this video. I took a home ec class my sophomore year in high school, and we had studied colour theory, but I had never thought to use it for my makeup, and I now have a much better look, and I get a lot more compliments.

  • damn i hate when the teacher its sexy, because i cant focus my attention, great video thanxs

  • hahaha idiot.

  • Wow, you're cute, Danielle!

  • This is a bit nitpicky, but this has errors.Your color wheel totally skips triadic harmonies.I have a "third edition" of the real, original Grumbacher Color Computer... the "in betweens" are called intermediates. Warm vs cool is split at red and green, NOT the intermediates. Yellow-green is warm, Red-violet cool; red and green can technically be BOTH (bs blue*violet always cold, yellow&orange always warm). Complimentary=brown when mixed; artists almost NEVER combine them for design/art/fashion!

  • u dd a fab job explaining this

  • some of the info is good BUT this chick talks and acts like a baby which is so freakin weird and gross. she is even wearing pig tails !! yuck grow up !

  • @himsyambrose Oh, shut up!

  • I have the same color wheel. :D

  • this is very very helpful! thank you!

  • you are beautiful!

  • My sister has a book that explains the monochomatic and stuff but I didn't get it now I do. Thanks.

  • The opposite of fire, is wooter.

  • I feel like im in elementary art class again. O.O Am I the only one whos known this basic color stuff since i was 8???? XD

  • Video was really helpful! Thanks a bunch

  • that was by far the best explanation of the colorwheel EVER!! thanx a mill.

  • this is so useful. thank you very much ;)

  • You're a great teacher! Thank you!

  • That makes soooo much sense!

  • ooh cheese-us this was so helpfull! thanks!!!!

  • is the red blue yellow just for this video? becuase i was always taught Red Green blue are primary. everything can be derived from them.

  • @gremo2k7

    Me too! RGB

  • @gremo2k7 hi. try mixing blue and yellow -you get green-so green is- a mixed color

  • THANK you so so much.. I have a mid term tomorrow for my Make up Artistry Class and you have been so helpfull! I was having a hard time understanding the Colour Terminology... and now Thnx to you I feel like I can pass my exam!

    :)

  • I am a guy.. I was browsing for colour theory and came across your video. I must say that you explained it very well from primary colours to monochromatic combination. This is the trick I use to remember colour wheels if you don't have a colour wheel handy. Try drawing the colours based on a CLOCK system. Red would be 12, yellow is 4 and blue is 8. Then you have secondary in between (orange is 2, green is 6, violet is 10). Then you fill in the mixed of primary and secondary (1,3,5,7,9,11).

  • @jibikao Once you remember where these colours are on a clock, you can quickly draw a mental line from one colour to another-"complementary colours". Or you can combine 3 colours or more on the same side (ie. 12, 1, 2 o'clock positions / red, red-orange-orange) to give you "analogous combination". Most of us are very familiar with reading a clock. So why not combining two properties to enhance memory?

  • This is not accurate information, and not very description. It is totally wrong

  • Thank you for the explanations!! This is a very good video!! Please give us another lecutre!

  • Great job. I love your energy! Thank you!1

  • I laughed when I heard "wooder colors," because now I know where you're from. :)

  • any of you tried Maybellines newest line of products? theyre great - i keep on get more! you can get free samples of make-up from "Gratis Makeup Samples". i received the samples on 30/09/2010.

  • Excellent explanation, thank!

    Greetings.

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you !!!

  • Thank you so much :D So helpfull. I've been looking for a video like this for so long :)

  • @Misshighlight88 I am so happy you liked this! xoxoxox

  • U explain it very well. I can’t believe I didn’t see this video before. It was so easy. But I would still like to know more. Like, where the gray comes from; I mean, I know that u mix black and white. But I mean in the wheel and what about black and brown... Did u do a part 2? I didn't see it. Thank u. U r so honest. :)

  • @dayabas Thank you! xoxoxoxo I am going to redo the whole thing I will post the videos together! xoxoxo

  • I love you!!!!!!!!! =) Thanks for that info! I am so lucky to have brown eyes! lol

  • @LatinaLady30 Thank you! I love you Too! xoxoxoxo

  • Also, what do you think about Almay's (I think anyway) 3 color pallets that come with the mascara and eyeliner? The ones that are suppose to compliment your eye color the best. I have very blue eyes, but it only has one orangey color in the pallet. The other two are a dark brown and a silvery brownish..light color. I don't like them too much.

  • I always want to tuck that piece of hair behind your ear.. lol.

  • @xKyliee lmao I want to too! I am gonna redo this and have normal hair in the video lol Also the almay colors are nice but if they arent working for you move on! always keep in mind what you like or are attracted and add color theory after that you will make coices that you will really wear alot and love! xoxoxo

  • @TalkinMakeUp koizez or choizez

  • You are gorgeous in every single way :D You are talented, beautiful, kind and I love your voice because it's so calming. :) Keep doing videos because you help a lot of people including me..so I'm a bit selfish but hey what can I do :)) Seriously you are one of those people I would love to meet :D Great tips! :D

  • This is the first video I ever watched from you... U were the best at explaining this!

  • your so nice! thanks for filming this. loved it!

now i understand when Stacy from what not to wear says certain colors complement each other.

  • Hi Camille thanks for this lesson it's great. A question: my eyes are kinda funny cos they sometimes look blue, other times grey and occasionally green. So by what I understand from your vid I can actually bring these colours out in my eyes depending on what colour eyeshadow I use? Is that right? And if so how do I bring out the grey?

  • This is so incredibly helpful to me. I am starting a beauty therapy part time course in September. But this feels like my own private lesson! Thank you so much for taking the time to make videos xx

  • hey i just stumbled across this vid and i absolutely loved it! r u ever going to do a part 2?

  • thumbs up x 100!

  • thanks :) that was helpful

  • Thank you very much! Your video was very helpfull. I have a color wheel but I never used it. I'm using this theory for photography. My sister, she is an interior decorator, gave me the advise to study color theory so here I am learning from you. (three different way to work with color theory, makeup, photography, interior decoration)

    Thanks again.

  • great! GREAT! video....went looking for "how to read a color wheel" ...and stumbeled across your video...I've had my wheel for years couldn't understand how to read it....but OMG...your video has me so excited...I can't wait to get started using mine...to the point I will not need it any more....lol

  • boring ;-/

  • omg i loved this so helpfull :)

  • You are a good teacher. Being a novice in the theory of color, I now understand its basics. Thank you. And colors you picked for your outfit in the video prove that you are an expert in this matter.

  • Thanx it was amazing

  • thanks Camille.

  • what do you do to make black eyes pop? I'm asian and my eyes are closer to black that to brown, almost true black.:) can't stop watching your videos!

  • awsome!thank you!

  • .........................

  • Thank you! So so so helpful! Now can't wait to start applying my eyeshadow!! But, my eyes are different coloured - one is bright blue and the other is half brown half green so I never know what bright colour to use so i mainly just stick to browns, light golds etc.

Oh and I have a tip for anyone who hates shimmery eyeshadow leaving glitter all down your face: Use cellotape to pick it up!!

    Thanks again :) xoxo

  • I suggest changing the title from color theory for beginners, to color theory for complete retards.

  • I own that exact same color wheel I like using it a lot. I like how it shows the tint, tone, and shade. The value scale along with the adding of the primary color and B&W. I like the turn wheel that tells you the complimentary , split complimentary and triad and tetrad. The color scheme on the wheel is helpful too. Just for anybody that is curious it's called "The pocket Color Wheel". : )

  • luv ur energy too cute!

  • Ur adorable. U explained it perfectly! I will have to purchase a color wheel now. I have pine green eyes. I adore purple and pinks. I didn't know that red would look right, but now Imma give it a gander. Thanks for the suggestion. I subscribed.

  • Thank you so much! Are you planning to do the expert color theory video too?

  • what a cutie! thx for the vid.. very helpful..

  • great video! Loved it!! very helpful

  • her voice makes me change the video

  • Very useful. But I have black eyes. What colors do you suggest? The same like brown eyes?

  • is there any books out there that teach you the basic foundation for makeup artist. Now I seen books that show you how to apply makeup, but I'm more interested in the basic stuff before you apply makeup such as in your video. There are no schools where I live, so I was wonder if there are some kind of text book that I can learn from.

  • I just gotta say how to the point this video is. I've watched so many of your videos, and they're all always informative but never "speak over" anyone... none of your vids have ever made me feel dumb, but they've all sparked an interest, reminded me of stuff I'd previously learned, and put new ideas in my head for how to think and remember and look at things. The fire/water and holiday tips in this vid were amazing! I <3 you!

  • u r super cute!.... thanks so much for the tutorial,,,great lesson

  • wow thank you for taking the time to do that, it was so helpful. I've been looking for someone to do that and I stumbled across you and im soooo happy

  • i am a cosmetologist. I just recently graduated from school and even though it's been a couple years i never can remember my warm and cool colors. and it's frustrating that i have to look at poster to remind me. the fire and water is so creative. and now i will never forget! thank you

  • thank you for your help!

  • you are excellent . thank you very much

    im from saudia arabia

  • i learned this in painting class back in highschool and completely forgot most of this, thanks for refreshing me.

  • awesome tutorial girlie. very concise and to the point

  • did she talk about black eyes? what color suits black eyes?

  • Thank you. you explained more in this video than my color theory teacher explained in my first 4 color theory class.

  • good vid - to the point and precise

  • wooter, lmao.

  • you are so awesome! very informative! =) five stars!

  • excellent tutorial. I learned a lot

  • Thank you so much!! You explained everything perfectly. That was so helpful. I've learned so much from you. =) I think this is the best video that I've found so far. <3 I'm looking forward to another colour theory tutorial.

  • oooo i love your accent so much :-)

  • great vid hun!

  • but copper creates a green flame.. :D

  • Such a helpful video! =) first video I've ever sat down and actually took notes on! You're great!

  • HI camille,

Was just looking through your vids and this one was very interesting and helpful. You know what's weird? I have dark blue eyes and I find that greens look beautiful and people always comment on my eyes when I'm wearing green eye shadow and I only just discovered it. I always used to wear oranges, golds and browns - but I think green makes them stand out more. is it because they are a darker blue?

  • Pearl Art is more of a Fine art store. You will be more likely to find color wheels there. Michael's is more of a craft store. Plus if you are a student you get 10% off at Pearl Art. I'm a fine art's major. It's next door to Toy's R Us across the high way from Woodbridge Mall in NJ. I like to use artist brushes for my make up. They are cheaper and there is a wider variety. Plus 10% off for student's. You can also get glitters and rinestones for different make up looks.

  • thank you ! that was so helpful !! :)

  • you are great...
