This was the 3rd song I heard by the group, after "Do Wah Diddy Diddy" and "Sha La La". I learned a long time ago that "Do Wah Diddy Diddy" had been done by the Exciters not long before Manfred Mann did it. I found out about 5 years ago that "Sha La La" had been done by the Shirelles not long before Manfred Mann. Only recently, I learned that this was also an American original, but already I don't remember who did it earlier.
@rslitman You mean thrt manfred mann didnt do this first that could be i think the writter of this song barkan is a new york writer on their pretty flamingo album was driva man a song by max roach and oscar brown
@spacepatrolman I've seen the Barkan name paired in songwriting credits with other New York-based writers. I think one of them was Ellie Greenwich, who co-write "Do Wah Diddy Diddy" with her most common songwriting partner, Jeff Barry.
Yes, juke boxes! The silver I dropped.....Tommy James and the Shondels, the Left Bank, and Manfred Mann......wish i was young again.

@shemanic1 Apparently Geoff Emerick was the balance engineer on this recording, his first big session? He was only 17 years old?
