Foil's more dynamic than epee, but epee has its own skill set. Accuracy is more important than foil, as often you're aiming for a wrist or a foot, and blade on blade actions are more complicated to prevent double-touches and to ensure you're covered even on the attack. As an epeeist I'm having a hard time getting told off in sabre for not being aggressive enough,but making an attack knowing I'm leaving myself open just because of right of way seems suicide from my previous training!

Foil is only for the best, the classiest fencers , it's a weapon which requires much more basic technique than any else .

Epee is for lower fencers , those who couldn't succeed in the Queen Weapon

Foil , try with Epee which isn't as rude as saber , but it's no Foil which is more mental and technic. and far more complex and difficult, not saying that Foil is the emblem of Fencing sport and it's much more prestigious than lower Epee and Saber .

@LordAndre25 All are but a game. Not all people are tall enough to do Epee, but stil they can enjoy a bout with foil instead. There are MANY rules in Epee, too. Way more than that the real life imposes. In your sense Epee is for pussies too.

@liebstandarteadolf I'm training Epee since 1998, now I'm 20 years old, and I ve got 181 cm, what makes me a way shorter than many others fencers, but I was a member of Poland national team U20, because I use my skills and speed against height of my opponents. Being tall is not everything in Epee, but sure if you're tall it makes a lot easier. I admire good fencers in all three weapons, because their skills are amazing and watching their fights is entertaiment, but i think Epee is more realisti

@originalkillerpuppy Of course you need a great skills to be a good foil-fencer but in my opinion, many people underestimate Epee, because it doesnt look so fancy as Foil. For me start your attack with not upright arm it's suicide, and it's logical for me to hit sb if he is going after me with not upright arm ( im not sure about that if u will understand what im sayin but i dont have any idei how to explain this )

like in finland, epee is over foil and the finnish champion of epee is also the champion of foil

Exactly, it's not that I don't enjoy a bit of Epee every now and then, I just like Foil more that's all. And whilst it's not as easy as Epee (despite handling the same way, and how there's a "First Blood Rule"), Foil is still a challenge and I'm getting better and better at it each year.

inj foil, we work on ROW, we parry for ROW,etc

in epee, they parry to make the opponent miss, which is soo much harder

Epee doesn't needs that much movement... Foil needs a lot of movement and tactic... sabre needs A LOT of speed and reaction time

It's hard to say... i'm a foil fencer.. but i think i have to say Saber, because of the agresiveness of it. You need to be very agressive and fast in saber.

However... Speed and Reaction time makes you win in Foil

great vid.good pics! foil as a weapon requires the most skill because it has the smallest target and the most right of way rules. thus bladework and aggression is extremely important. whereas in epee speed is of the highest import. ive never fenced sabre though. looks fun.

foil wouldnt be much use unless you really wanted it to be, in which case it would be deadly at a much more intimate level with your enemy, epee would be no good, and sword is kinda the category they all fall into. sabre is a cavelry sword and so you would be likely to have it if you were on the front line, either way most the higer ranks would be well out the way and not need to worry!

well, foil is seen more as a beginner weapon (though it is quite challenging), and some view its more complex system of right of way and scoring as cramped and rigid. I actually usually fence foil, but i do épée also. for a point of reference, there was no men's individual foil at the olympics this year...

It was the Men's Team Foil that wasn't there. And this has nothing to do with Foil not being considered a real sport, its part of a new agreement with the FIE and IOC to put the Fencing events on a rotation, so this year Men's Team Foil was done earlier in the year, and in 2012 they will do the same thing with one of the other fencing events.
