Does anyone remember during a holiday, KTTV would show kid shows like "Mad Monster Party" around Halloween, "Santa Claus Conqueors the Martians" and "Jack Frost" (Russian flick) around Christmas, as well as "Daydreamer", "The Wacky World of Mother Goose", and live action shows like "Jack and the Beanstalk", "The Ride of Paul Revere", and the show that featured young child actors like Rodney Allen Ripey and the kid from the Partridge Family (last season neighbor).
@Synthetrix - This was also true with sister station WNEW-TV in New York; in fact, one joke went that the station's calls stood for "Where Nothing Ever Works."
@Nicholas197813 BUT THAT IS WHAT THE ANIMATED LOGO SOUNDED LIKE. ITS NO BIG DEAL ABOUT WHAT THEY SOUNDED LIKE AND WHAT I SAID IS NO REASON TO TURN ON CAPS LOCK.
I'm 42 and a lifelong L.A. resident, and I remember that announcer's voice. The only other announcing voice I do remember is the guy from KABC Channel 7 and Larry Van Nuys from KTLA Channel 5.
WOW...., I CAN'T BELIEVE SOME ONE ACTUALLY HAD THIS OLD FOOTAGE! I am 43 years old now and I grew up in the San Fernando Valley and I rememeber seeing this logo everyday after school while watching cartoons. GREAT POST, THANK YOU!!!
Are you kidding me (ha ha)? Sunday mornings @ 8:00 or 9:00 am. "Kids Are People Too", "Excercise, Excercise...,Come On Everybody Do Your Excercise", etc. ! I loved Bob McCallister!
Love these LA station IDs takes me back when we got Cable vision for the first time back in the early 1970s we received 4 LA stations: KTTV 11, KTLA 5, KCOP 13 and KHJ-TV 9 . KTTV was a particular fave of mine. I still remember the station promo "KTTV, that's entertainment!" Anyone have that one? Thanks again.
@DavidYakima I think programming reached its peak through out most of the 20th century. Then newly created networks just started going to hell as time progressed. Then along came reality TV and then it just all fizzled out. I do like the fact that Fox and KCOP still run "I Love Lucy" but I miss the classic programmign lineups. I have really never subscribed to cable since their is really nothing good own. I just buy my own DVD box sets and relive the experiences that way.
@shaithis60 One of the reasons the networks started going to hell is because In most parts of the industrialized world, the news has to "sell," because the handful of giant media conglomerates that control most of the press (media outlets) place a high priority on profitable operations. Their CEOs are under relentless pressure to generate high returns on their shareholders' investments.
At least one thing has not changed- Channel 11 (now called Fox 11) is still airing I Love Lucy. Not only that, but I Love Lucy is also airing on sister station KCOP Channel 13.
I heard he passed away recently. The only thing I knew him from was as an announcer for Norfolk, VA CBS affiliate WTKR in the early 1980s (he lived in the area by then).
Marv also did idents, promos etc for all the Metromedia stations (ie: WNEW, WTTG etc.). Recently he did VO for a series on the history of automobiles for the History Channel
What I remember of KTTV in the 1970's was the Afternoon Movie hosted by Ben Hunter... Then Cartoons after school...and the Merv Griffin Show!!!!
