It all started with Destiny of an Emperor, great game well ahead of its time. ROTK is awesome but in some versions the AI is bad. All I know is if you take the north the rest of the world will cower before you.

i love this series. i've played it since i was a kid.. i still have RoTK II for the super nintendo & RoTK V on PS1.. and of coarse RoTK XI.. the PS2 version.. i used to have VII, IX & X, as well but i lost them over the years.. i still hang on to the dream that one day there will be a "RoTK XII" with online play.. that would be epic. sadly it will probably stay a dream =,( still that would be pretty sweet.. could u imagine?

@tom1yum2goong yeah you can probably find it used at gamestop or something. I got it when it first came out. It's an ok game but I wish they hadn't dropped the RPG format they used in ROTK 8, where you could be anything from a free officer to a vassal or a warlord up to a ruler....this one you HAVE to be a ruler and manage everything in your force (although you can appoint viceroys to micromanage things for you). The graphics are better but it lost something.

I love the series... its a combination of Macro and Micro management of strategy and battlefield tactics!!! The duelling is just one strategic aspect of the game... but it can't win you the whole game just by duelling and having a strong general which makes it so fun. So to those who are used to the button mashing, brainless DW series, try playing this game and see a whole new genre instead of making stupid comparisons

If you duel and won you would capture that general and maybe recruit him to your rank, not to mention a huge boost in moral to your army.
