It looks like you went into the movie with the wrong expectation. You seem to have expected an exploitation film, which it isn't. It's a political film. @myonlynickjonas So, I should stick to reviewing movies I haven't seen? Well, at least you nailed the gimmick of this series.
Also, I don't give a crap if a film is "artistic". In this series, I look at one simple thing. I look at whether or not the movie is entertaining to watch. Salo failed to entertain, and I gave my reasons why I thought so. What's so bad about that?
@He11sing920 Greetings. I'm going to start be saying that i enjoy your channel immensely. I watched Salo years ago on laserdisc. I,too,am a fan of transgressive, controversial cinema. However,i thought Salo was an excruciating piece of pretentious(pardon the pun)shit. On the bright side, coprohiliacs should get off on it. Cheers to you for calling the film for what it is and you've gotta love those reactionaries that gave you a hard time for trashing this "masterpiece".
@myonlynickjonas This is not a good film, there is nothing good about it. It's a movie about raping and torturing people. Doesn't matter how well made it is, it is a bad movie.
lol...This is not ''shocking just for the sake of it'', it's a 100% political masterpiece by Pier Paolo Pasolini kid, so dont embarass yourself in public. You should know that Pasolini was being chased all his life for his political views ( a communist ) and was MURDERED after this film. Today he is considered one of the greatest directors of all time and ''Salo'' remains controversial not just because of his ''graphic violence'', but mainly because of his fascist society portrayal...Kids...
What a disgusting film i had to sit through when i saw this back in 99 as a teen and i'll never forgot some sequences that made me sick and couldn't eat for a day.
so what would you say is the MOST disturbing movie evah? - I'm dying to know because I thought salo was the worst. but if it's not, I must know what is!
I wonder if you heard the little speech written by the director that prefaced the version I saw and if so what you thought of it?
Also, I seriously doubt that you really watching a film when you are making jokes and waiting for something to happen, instead of just watching the movie.
You are complaining about nothing shocking happening in the first few minutes of the film?
I just don't see how you can appreciate any movie, when you feel the need to open your mouth every couple of minutes.
@tretrioeciii Oh, I can assure you I was watching the movie. Sorry if you don't think it's possible to watch a movie and talk about it at the same time. Also, if you bother to watch some of my other reviews, you will see that I do appreciate a movie when it's entertaining. Salo was in no way entertaining.
Want to try this little comment again? Maybe with less whining about pointless crap and less smug arrogance. I might take you seriously then.
i think it´s disturbing because of the coldness the men treat their slaves, extinguishing everything that´s human from them. You have compassion for the slaves, even though you don´t know anything about them, you see them as human beeings, who are struggeling for some salvation. And it´s sad to see the men so untouchable, not feeling any guilt and empathy, keeping torturing them, not giving them any chance to survive. i don´t think the graphical parts make it disturbing, but the mental abuse of them
Good review. This movie has great staying power. I saw Serbia and Cannibal and everything else but none stayed with me like this movie. I think it was all the gay sex... Im not into that at all :(
I just hope these kids arent really underage! I suppose its ok since it's available at Barnes and Nobles! I do agree it's kinda boring in most parts but it's still very powerful and IT HAS A MESSAGE!
The book was written by a madman who was sexually, physically, and mentally abused. It was about a bunch of aristocrats basically trying to see how much money could buy. Not sure if the movie is anything like that, but that's what the movie's based on.
I would love to see you do a review on Edmond (2005) and another film, Begotten (1990). Or if you have already seen them, let me know what you think? Love your channel btw! Just watched Cannibal Holocaust for the first time and I liked it, turned my head during the animal scenes tho!
@richardm123uk Care to explain? From where I am standing, you are doing nothing but throwing insults with nothing to back them up.
Maybe I should explain my reviewing criteria. It's real simple. The one thing I look for over all else in the movies I review is whether or not the film was entertaining. Salo failed to entertain me. Thus, I felt the need to explain it. No amount of supposed symbolism or faux depth is going to save it from being a waste of two hours in my eyes.
i absolutly love salo, its a really good art film, heavily politicaly inspired, an absolute gem in my book, another good one is called "irreversibal" another absolute gem, really shocking in some scenes, do a review on it, not the most extreme film out there but still good
i agree wat u sayin bout it, but i found it pritty sick mainly because the story and way its done, graficly i would say slaughter vomit dolls or august underground had sickest scenes
Hellsing920 did you see the 2008 movie Martyrs by Pascal Laugier its not that gore but interesting just curious did you like it if you did see it? And whats the most disturbing movie you have seen Im trying to look for some?
I am a big fan of hack & slash films e.g. Saw, blood & gore, the usual stuff. I found this film to be the most terrifying thing I have ever seen. Films don't have to be overtly graphic to be disturbing, they just require a dense atmosphere. I thought the lack of graphic content (until the end, anyway) made it scarier because it allows the mind to imgaine what is going on off camera. The brutal acts are not the point, but the despair of the characters' situation and the rule of anarchy.
@11:30 I think that's the actual point of the film. It is meant to initially shock, then the shock goes away and we are supposed to be left with some underlying questioning of our own morality.
Fail movie is fail, but I think that was Pasolini's point. Also de Sade's point as well.
I don't like sports. Why are you turning this into a baseball game?
Neither of us know what was in Pasolini's brain, but I've seen most of his movies, and none of the others contain fesces or ultr'violence, as you would expect if it were about his fetishes. You are nit picking rather than exploring my main points.
This film is about how "absolute power corups absolutly."
It is about fasicm and comercialisation.
Baseball isn't even in this film, so I don't know why you are even mentioning it.
This was not an exploitation film and was not suposed to turn anybody on.
It was a fairly acurate depiction of Sade's book, moved foreward to Fascist Italy. The "Cirlce of s---" is from Dante. Pasolini's intention was not to shock, but to explore the effects of the corupton of power in the context of fascism. The line "We fascists are the only true anarchists, because when in power we can do whatever we want" is not the sort of idea explored in porn. Not for the weak of heart. stomach, brain
@milascave2 Limbo, Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Anger, Heresy, Violence, Fraud, and Treachery are the rings of Hell In Dante's Inferno. Nowhere does shit come into play. So, strike one.
Pasolini made this film primarily because it focuses on his fetishes. So, it was supposed to turn him on. Strike two.
At no time did I ever claim that this film was porn, so I don't know why you would even mention it. Strike Three.
@He11sing920 Oh, and before you respond, don't bother mentioning Purgatorio or Paradiso. Neither the Terraces or the Spheres mention shit either. So, Dante never had anything directly tied to shit.
@He11sing920 But let us try to drop the hostile, competitive tone. Clearly you know more of Dante than I, and I know more of Pasolini than you. Pasolini does not use the same specific circles as Dante. But he borrowed the idea of Hell having different circles.
I'm not so familiar with you and your videos - is it that you're specialized in reviewing these extremely offensive movies, or is it just that you're willing to review whichever movie your fans tell you to and that they abuse their authority by suggesting movies like these?
Also, what kind of crazy fruit would bother making a movie like this? Circle of shit? Setting dicks on fire? Come on...
@DrsJacksonn It's more the latter. I will review pretty much anything my viewers request, as long as I haven't seen the movie in the past. Under those circumstances, these sorts of disgusting movies seem to regularly come up.
An 'exploitation' film aims to exploit the viewer's darker proclivities for commercial gain; in other words it seeks to convert their voyeuristic appetite for perverse sexuality/ violence into cash. Unfortunately, when a film contains this sort of material it is then liable to be 'exploited' in turn by being promoted as pornographic 'entertainment', and it will then be seen by people who are really watching it with inappropriate expectations (a more recent example might be Haneke's Funny Games).
I think you missed the boat on this one. The film is less about shock and more about desensitization. Once the aristocrats got bored with rape, they moved on to making the young people eat shit. Once that was the norm, they moved on to murder. The only way to top one murder is to commit many murders. It's a slow road to Hell.
The thing is, Salo is not and was never intended to be an exploitation film or a "shock" movie. It's not some total euro sleazefest ala Caligula or a nasty Italian-style gore flick ala, I dunno, Cannibal Holocaust or something. It's a really slow-moving and bleak examination of human cruelty and depravity. IMO, the only real "holy shit that's nasty" moments in this movie are the old prostitute's stories, the shit-eating scene and the brutal torture that happens in the last 15 or so minutes.
@sxd The fact that the film takes a long look at cruelty and depravity makes it an exploitation film by default. Granted, it a more artsy exploitation film than most, but it's still an exploitation film.
However, I do see what you mean. This film, while shocking, was trying to send a message through its shock. Sadly, to me, the message was lost due to the lack of character depth. I just didn't care about what happened to anyone, because no one had any real personality to care about.
@He11sing920 Yeah, I feel you. I hear this complaint about the movie all the time, and it's a perfectly valid one. Personally I think the lack of character depth for the teenage boys and girls was kind of done intentionally. Like they were trying to show that these evil yuppie douchebags didn't even think of them as people and just viewed them as human pieces of meat to do what they want with, so IMO it was more effective that they didn't give any of them much of a personality.
@sxd That is a slightly valid point. However, while it makes sense for the Libertines to treat their captors like animals, it doesn't make sense that we as viewers don't get to see more. Without any real depth, they basically are just pieces of meat.
It's sort of like Star Trek. You have never heard of the Ensign who is in the away team, and as a result, you don't much care when he inevitably dies a few moments after arrival on the alien world.
Well, I think, based upon Pasolini's political views, Saló was a way of portraying how he witnessed society and segregation. And he choose to do so in the raw, unpleasant nature of this movie - sadism. Ofc you can argue that the movie fails to deliver due its bizarre nature. However, that's subjective. I would say that this is the most disturbing movie I've seen, and yeah it's not as graphical as Mordum or Serbian and crap like that. But i did feel that there was a philosophy hidden within it.
thinking back on this film, i must say i liked the storytelling scenes and the bearded boss character, the boss guy was a really good actor from what i can recall.
Yeah, I thought that film was just weird, I liked Serbian Film, Martyrs, I Spit On Your Grave and other fucked up films but I didn't like this film as much as I thought I would.
@kirkfnw When a film is pushed at being a disgusting graphic film, I am well within my right to complain.
Also, if you were paying attention, you would notice that I said that the biggest problem was that the movie had no real plot and was boring as hell from start to finish. The "lack of graphic scenes" (and, trust me, there were plenty of graphic scenes in the movie as it stands) was not a real issue to me.
@He11sing920 Hmmm, then the people hailing it as "graphic", should not have done so. Salo worked on a psychological level for me. I watched Serbian Film and was shocked by it, but Salo blew me away even though I knew about the shit eating scene. The unnecessary and casual cruelty from the hideous nobles mindfucked me, especially the ending where I was expecting redemption. I fear the "OMG this will shock you" talk has ruined some of the effect on you.
@kirkfnw You are probably right. I went into it expecting nastiness on unknown levels (my knowledge of it being based on a work by the Marquis de Sade didn't help any either). Had I of gone in without all the hype about the supposed shock, I might have seen it a bit differently.
I respect the fact that it got you on a psychological level. I sort of wish that I would have gotten something out of it. I love movies that just fuck with your head. Sadly, Salò just didn't do it for me.
@He11sing920 You should check out the movie Antichrist with Willem Defoe. I LOVE that film. it's a very artsy disturbing/horror movie with a TON of symbolism and isn't one you can watch once and fully understand, there is a loooot underneath that movies skin.
@itsbone141 OK, explain how "sexy" stories, rampant sex and fecal feasting is an allegory for fascism. Go ahead and quote from some textbook about how a film that borders on being unwatchably boring is somehow high art because some stuck up pinhead says so.
Sorry, pal. I watch movies to be entertained. Salò may have a deeper message, but it's not worth the time to dig through the literal shit to find it. The film fails to be entertaining, plain and simple.
@He11sing920 I regret adding hits to your site, but I would like to suggest that you stop trying to review artistic products that it is simply not in your gift to comment on in a meaningful way. I know I'm wasting my time, since stupid people are stupid precisely because they do not know they are stupid, but the world is full of people who are considerably brighter than you, and a more appropriate position for you to adopt would be one of humility. O wasted, wasted words! O the tragedy of life!!
@dowen679 So, because I refuse to buy that there is some sort of symbolism in this film, I am stupid?
Not everything is "Animal Farm" and "The Old Man And The Sea". Not everything has symbolism. No matter what the filmmakers say, this film lacked any sort of hard symbolism. Sure, the libertines can be seen as fascist analogues, but that's not enough to say the whole film has a message.
But, what do I know? According to you, I'm stupid.
@He11sing920 My assessment of your intelligence was based more generally on your comments and manifest atitude than specifically on what you said regarding the issue of symbolism. It's great that you know Orwell and Hemingway, and maybe you're smarter and better informed than some of your remarks and your general stance suggest. I have no desire to cause offence, but you invite that if you insist on making sarcastic comments about 'stuck up pinheads'. Let's leave it there shall we?
@He11sing920 It actually showed how in that system (Fascism in Italy)can ppl whom were in power would be able to get away with basically everything. The Story itself is the writings of Sade that's the base off it'It also attempts to show that how much Physical and Psychological abuse a Human being able to take as long as they believe they can save their own life and what would some others do for profit.Absolute power and control that's what Pasolini wanna to show. That's my view of it anyways
oh fck that was so funny "oh look..more shit eating" LOL oh btw BEAR GRYLLS is like a survival guy but is really just a fucking fake cuz he stays at hotels and cheats all over the place..
Do Cannibal Holocaust next. It ain't extremely repulsive but it is the pinnacle of exploitation films and then maybe Anthropogaus the beast or Braindead
Criterion, an organization that preserves historically important films, made Salo a part of its collection--and for good reason. The film is more about an exploration of themes surrounding political corruption and fascism than it is about pure exploitation. It really doesn't belong in the same category as the films you previously reviewed.
@vulpix I sort of figured that was the case. However, after all the requests for it, I needed to do it just to get it out of the way.
Now, as a more thematic piece, it's still not all that thought provoking or compelling. As I stated, I found the film to be overly dull. However, I am not going to question Criterion's decision to add it to their archives. No matter how you slice it, Salò is a well known enough film to qualify it.
Well, to be fair, it's actually more of an art-house film than an actual exploitation film, despite the shock-elements. I see why you're disappointed because you've been hyped up to expect something else.
@BygPhattyPlus Well, I haven't seen either film, but I am more willing to take a look at Gummo. Since so many people have insisted that I do The Room (usually mentioning the Nostalgia Critic in the process), I am not really interested in giving the movie the time of day.
@He11sing920 Ah, no prob. One can guess that a movie as bad as The Room would be one that everyone has seen and talked about. Blasted thing was even show in a marathon on Adult Swim several years back.

However,i thought Salo was an excruciating piece of pretentious(pardon the pun)shit. On the bright side, coprohiliacs should get off on it. Cheers to you for calling the film for what it is and you've gotta love those reactionaries that gave you a hard time for trashing this "masterpiece".

@myonlynickjonas salo is a film only made to pleasure the shiteaters... if you think the movie is good, it explains a little bit about urself.

The book was written by a madman who was sexually, physically, and mentally abused. It was about a bunch of aristocrats basically trying to see how much money could buy. Not sure if the movie is anything like that, but that's what the movie's based on.

TheBowserPrime 8 months ago
@TheBowserPrime So far, no. No film has ever made me puke. Some films have made me feel a bit sick, but none have moved me to vomit.
He11sing920 8 months ago
@11:30 I think that's the actual point of the film. It is meant to initially shock, then the shock goes away and we are supposed to be left with some underlying questioning of our own morality.
Fail movie is fail, but I think that was Pasolini's point. Also de Sade's point as well.
Tchekov006 8 months ago
I don't like sports. Why are you turning this into a baseball game?
Neither of us know what was in Pasolini's brain, but I've seen most of his movies, and none of the others contain fesces or ultr'violence, as you would expect if it were about his fetishes. You are nit picking rather than exploring my main points.
This film is about how "absolute power corups absolutly."
It is about fasicm and comercialisation.
Baseball isn't even in this film, so I don't know why you are even mentioning it.
milascave2 8 months ago
This was not an exploitation film and was not suposed to turn anybody on.
It was a fairly acurate depiction of Sade's book, moved foreward to Fascist Italy. The "Cirlce of s---" is from Dante. Pasolini's intention was not to shock, but to explore the effects of the corupton of power in the context of fascism. The line "We fascists are the only true anarchists, because when in power we can do whatever we want" is not the sort of idea explored in porn. Not for the weak of heart. stomach, brain
milascave2 8 months ago
@milascave2 Limbo, Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Anger, Heresy, Violence, Fraud, and Treachery are the rings of Hell In Dante's Inferno. Nowhere does shit come into play. So, strike one.
Pasolini made this film primarily because it focuses on his fetishes. So, it was supposed to turn him on. Strike two.
At no time did I ever claim that this film was porn, so I don't know why you would even mention it. Strike Three.
Care to try again?
He11sing920 8 months ago
@He11sing920 Oh, and before you respond, don't bother mentioning Purgatorio or Paradiso. Neither the Terraces or the Spheres mention shit either. So, Dante never had anything directly tied to shit.
He11sing920 8 months ago
@He11sing920 But let us try to drop the hostile, competitive tone. Clearly you know more of Dante than I, and I know more of Pasolini than you. Pasolini does not use the same specific circles as Dante. But he borrowed the idea of Hell having different circles.
milascave2 8 months ago
I'm not so familiar with you and your videos - is it that you're specialized in reviewing these extremely offensive movies, or is it just that you're willing to review whichever movie your fans tell you to and that they abuse their authority by suggesting movies like these?
Also, what kind of crazy fruit would bother making a movie like this? Circle of shit? Setting dicks on fire? Come on...
DrsJacksonn 8 months ago
@DrsJacksonn It's more the latter. I will review pretty much anything my viewers request, as long as I haven't seen the movie in the past. Under those circumstances, these sorts of disgusting movies seem to regularly come up.
He11sing920 8 months ago
An 'exploitation' film aims to exploit the viewer's darker proclivities for commercial gain; in other words it seeks to convert their voyeuristic appetite for perverse sexuality/ violence into cash. Unfortunately, when a film contains this sort of material it is then liable to be 'exploited' in turn by being promoted as pornographic 'entertainment', and it will then be seen by people who are really watching it with inappropriate expectations (a more recent example might be Haneke's Funny Games).

@He11sing920 Probably, cause I had to check it for sure. Heck, I recorded my self watching that scene and heard no crackling noises.
halomano07 9 months ago
I think you missed the boat on this one. The film is less about shock and more about desensitization. Once the aristocrats got bored with rape, they moved on to making the young people eat shit. Once that was the norm, they moved on to murder. The only way to top one murder is to commit many murders. It's a slow road to Hell.
newshoes69 9 months ago
What made this film so disgusting was the acting and context that was added to the gore
Crablec10 9 months ago
The thing is, Salo is not and was never intended to be an exploitation film or a "shock" movie. It's not some total euro sleazefest ala Caligula or a nasty Italian-style gore flick ala, I dunno, Cannibal Holocaust or something. It's a really slow-moving and bleak examination of human cruelty and depravity. IMO, the only real "holy shit that's nasty" moments in this movie are the old prostitute's stories, the shit-eating scene and the brutal torture that happens in the last 15 or so minutes.
sxd 10 months ago
@sxd The fact that the film takes a long look at cruelty and depravity makes it an exploitation film by default. Granted, it a more artsy exploitation film than most, but it's still an exploitation film.
However, I do see what you mean. This film, while shocking, was trying to send a message through its shock. Sadly, to me, the message was lost due to the lack of character depth. I just didn't care about what happened to anyone, because no one had any real personality to care about.
He11sing920 10 months ago
@He11sing920 Yeah, I feel you. I hear this complaint about the movie all the time, and it's a perfectly valid one. Personally I think the lack of character depth for the teenage boys and girls was kind of done intentionally. Like they were trying to show that these evil yuppie douchebags didn't even think of them as people and just viewed them as human pieces of meat to do what they want with, so IMO it was more effective that they didn't give any of them much of a personality.
sxd 10 months ago
@sxd That is a slightly valid point. However, while it makes sense for the Libertines to treat their captors like animals, it doesn't make sense that we as viewers don't get to see more. Without any real depth, they basically are just pieces of meat.
It's sort of like Star Trek. You have never heard of the Ensign who is in the away team, and as a result, you don't much care when he inevitably dies a few moments after arrival on the alien world.

I like Salo but not the movie(or book if there is one)
CyrillKR 10 months ago
Well, I think, based upon Pasolini's political views, Saló was a way of portraying how he witnessed society and segregation. And he choose to do so in the raw, unpleasant nature of this movie - sadism. Ofc you can argue that the movie fails to deliver due its bizarre nature. However, that's subjective. I would say that this is the most disturbing movie I've seen, and yeah it's not as graphical as Mordum or Serbian and crap like that. But i did feel that there was a philosophy hidden within it.
Concretshky 10 months ago
thinking back on this film, i must say i liked the storytelling scenes and the bearded boss character, the boss guy was a really good actor from what i can recall.

toddfuckingaudas 10 months ago
So according to you, because of lack of graphic scenes, this film is a fail. REVIEW = FAIL.
kirkfnw 10 months ago
@kirkfnw When a film is pushed at being a disgusting graphic film, I am well within my right to complain.
Also, if you were paying attention, you would notice that I said that the biggest problem was that the movie had no real plot and was boring as hell from start to finish. The "lack of graphic scenes" (and, trust me, there were plenty of graphic scenes in the movie as it stands) was not a real issue to me.
He11sing920 10 months ago 2
@He11sing920 Hmmm, then the people hailing it as "graphic", should not have done so. Salo worked on a psychological level for me. I watched Serbian Film and was shocked by it, but Salo blew me away even though I knew about the shit eating scene. The unnecessary and casual cruelty from the hideous nobles mindfucked me, especially the ending where I was expecting redemption. I fear the "OMG this will shock you" talk has ruined some of the effect on you.
kirkfnw 10 months ago
@kirkfnw You are probably right. I went into it expecting nastiness on unknown levels (my knowledge of it being based on a work by the Marquis de Sade didn't help any either). Had I of gone in without all the hype about the supposed shock, I might have seen it a bit differently.
I respect the fact that it got you on a psychological level. I sort of wish that I would have gotten something out of it. I love movies that just fuck with your head. Sadly, Salò just didn't do it for me.
He11sing920 10 months ago 9
@He11sing920 You should check out the movie Antichrist with Willem Defoe. I LOVE that film. it's a very artsy disturbing/horror movie with a TON of symbolism and isn't one you can watch once and fully understand, there is a loooot underneath that movies skin.
fatphillmargera 6 months ago
What a shallow review!
sry, but I think you missed the whole point of the movie!
itsbone141 10 months ago
@itsbone141 OK, explain how "sexy" stories, rampant sex and fecal feasting is an allegory for fascism. Go ahead and quote from some textbook about how a film that borders on being unwatchably boring is somehow high art because some stuck up pinhead says so.
Sorry, pal. I watch movies to be entertained. Salò may have a deeper message, but it's not worth the time to dig through the literal shit to find it. The film fails to be entertaining, plain and simple.
He11sing920 10 months ago 16
@He11sing920 lol check out lampyman101's analysis, those things do actually have symbolism to them.
TheGermandude2 9 months ago
@He11sing920 I regret adding hits to your site, but I would like to suggest that you stop trying to review artistic products that it is simply not in your gift to comment on in a meaningful way. I know I'm wasting my time, since stupid people are stupid precisely because they do not know they are stupid, but the world is full of people who are considerably brighter than you, and a more appropriate position for you to adopt would be one of humility. O wasted, wasted words! O the tragedy of life!!
dowen679 9 months ago
@dowen679 So, because I refuse to buy that there is some sort of symbolism in this film, I am stupid?
Not everything is "Animal Farm" and "The Old Man And The Sea". Not everything has symbolism. No matter what the filmmakers say, this film lacked any sort of hard symbolism. Sure, the libertines can be seen as fascist analogues, but that's not enough to say the whole film has a message.
But, what do I know? According to you, I'm stupid.
He11sing920 9 months ago
@He11sing920 My assessment of your intelligence was based more generally on your comments and manifest atitude than specifically on what you said regarding the issue of symbolism. It's great that you know Orwell and Hemingway, and maybe you're smarter and better informed than some of your remarks and your general stance suggest. I have no desire to cause offence, but you invite that if you insist on making sarcastic comments about 'stuck up pinheads'. Let's leave it there shall we?

RedZHunter 10 months ago
Criterion, an organization that preserves historically important films, made Salo a part of its collection--and for good reason. The film is more about an exploration of themes surrounding political corruption and fascism than it is about pure exploitation. It really doesn't belong in the same category as the films you previously reviewed.
vulpix 10 months ago
@vulpix I sort of figured that was the case. However, after all the requests for it, I needed to do it just to get it out of the way.
Now, as a more thematic piece, it's still not all that thought provoking or compelling. As I stated, I found the film to be overly dull. However, I am not going to question Criterion's decision to add it to their archives. No matter how you slice it, Salò is a well known enough film to qualify it.
He11sing920 10 months ago
Well, to be fair, it's actually more of an art-house film than an actual exploitation film, despite the shock-elements. I see why you're disappointed because you've been hyped up to expect something else.
