Actually, the references in this song are not biblical, really, but more to do with Catholic spirituality....which makes perfect sense given his upbringing and schooling. Bruce writes from what he knows - always has. It's what makes his music so genuine. Say what you will about The Boss - he writes every single word from the heart. And I, for one, wouldn't have it any other way.

Bruce has been using Biblical references in his songs for a long time, for one reason or another. I think for this one he is trying to convey a sense of holiness regarding Theresa. Of course, I'm talking out of my ass, but its a thought. At any rate, its a cool way to look at the song, I think.
