Nope. The fin and rails ( board edges) take over from the center board when you're planing. Centerboards are only needed in boards that don't plane on all points of sail, ie longboards. Even then your rails can do the job.

the board can start to slide out without a center board, but with the way the sail is placed and the way your force is completely moving forward a center board isn't necessary for planing boards. formula boards (big racing boards) often have center boards because the back fin alone can't keep the board on line, but short boards don't need them

Most of the sails in the vid are from US manufacturs on the west coast, where the Colombia River is. Simmer, Ezzy, Naish, ect. You'll find more Brit and Euro sails on the east coast and Canada because it's more within distribution range. I live there and I've got Pryde stuff.

The guy with the flames is Dale Cook who is probably the best Chop Hopper in the world, at least the Gorge anyway (IMHO). Do a search on YouTube for Dale Bail and you will see why he is the best!

i would say need the widest most stable board possible with a lot of volume and grip!! NEVER GO OUT IN WINDS OVER FORCE 3 ! as a begginer and always windsurf with someone ! However ! i would really say that its nearly impossible to teach your self how to windsurf ? It may look easy but i promise you will get fustrated with out lessons =Z and it is worth paying 20 pounds for a lesson get a good two days worth of hours and u will be well on the way to big airs :)
