you should hack cobwebs in there so it takes FOREVER to fall to the bottom. and cobwebs don't cushion your fall so you will still die, just in a much slower fasion

Any trigger (furnace trap) can be hooked up to any trap (gravity).

It is clever but way to complex to be practical. With the advent of pistons I prefer the good old lava bridge and even before pistons a good tnt-into-water trap was quick to reset. I say again though. Clever.
