Ahh the epicness of 8-bit... fuck makes me feel old even though I'm so young. I miss the noises back in the day when techno was new and people explored the realms of sound to new frontiers. I'm not saying todays tech ain't good but it's gotten stale but thankfully there are plenty of shitty (eg. rap, hip hop, metal, etc) songs out there that need a remixing into something worth hearing.
@FitzChivalryFarseer2 Ordinarily I'd call you out on this actually being 16 bit, but your heart's in the right place so I can't bring myself to do it. However, lift your spirits, check out the old-hardware chiptune scene, it's still pretty vibrant. And Dubmood is one of the dons of it, at the moment, his stuff (and the remixes, and the mixes of his stuff by other people) are amazing. Ancient hardware put to new use, like finding a 50 year old guitar in the attic and making it rock out once more.
@TahreyUK Lulz oops my bad sounds like... well you know. ^^' I dunno about the techno scene though... for gods/devils/saints/masters sake look at the recent shit called dubstep that has come out. The good stuff has become vintage and cult >.>
Haha... no worries. Admittedly the 2149 was already old when installed in the ST (and also went into the MSX, Spectrum 128k, Mastersystem) and they're using SID-voice FX here.
I'm just being an old pedant :D plus it's actually a MOD with synth samples in it... it's a retro remix of something that started life as a DOS PC tune!
But, whatevs. It doesn't matter in the end so long as it sounds good.
Chiptune dubstep, btw... interesting concept. I think it could work. Closest I've heard to anything like that are some of the wilder remixes of Dubmood stuff ("of", not "by"), and a little something called "Factored" by the chip artist "505". That one actually WAS a pure synth tune (there's a demodisk with it on that will run on an original 1985 ST) and it goes pretty hard.
@Isnaard Newer is better than older? Only in computers and milk is that statement true. There are almost no movies made today that will be remembered in 20 years. The classics were all made in the 60s - 90s. New cars are built like tin cans while the 100-year old Model-T still runs like a tank. Music is being recycled and rehashed while the only creativity comes from the indie artists. Look at the 70s -80s for revolutionary music. Not everything gets better with age. Many things get stale.
Little Richard. One of the oldest rock and rollers, and he tore it up.
When the 1960s wanted someone to fill the vacancy for a Justin Bieber type act, they ended up with The Beatles, and The Stones in the Nickleback slot.
Myth? Busted.
I was born 1981, by the way. I'm not some hippie who wishes they were back in the 60s because you could make acid without getting arrested. But I'm not such a fool as to think old automatically = bad, no more than it automatically = good.
@TwiIightSparkle Oh come on man, if you're going to compare them use something like "Both use tracking programs" or "Both make chiptunes" or even "Both support piracy." But don't go on and say that making something for bronies puts you on par with one of the greatest names in chiptune music, that's just insulting to the amount of effort that goes into these songs.
Heh - well this was 11 years ago when there wasn't any programs like that and when tapes were still in :-P Luckily almost everything good ends up online these days.
