All Muslims mixed at one time in history or another through marriage. But really the Chinese Hui people are just Chinese. As the African Arab are just Africa but with the distant possible mixing a little or not.

I personally think Chinese Muslims are among the best to interpret Islam in the best way as it is supposed to be. As you see they are very creative and very authentic. What I noticed is that they have amalgamated Islamic and Chinese Calligraphy in Xi`An mosque, I am amazed, a wonderfull form of art. Congratulations.

Someone above asked if chinese muslims are religious. I think that is a very ignorant question. An outsider might think that chinese culture probably has more influence on people's lives than islam. For example in Turkey, where people care more abuot being westernized and want to be more european than muslim. Same happens everywhere in the world. A good muslim knows to put his religion first and then ethnic culture second.

sometimes you really can see that the islam there is a bit different to our, but sometimes you dont see any differences. Alhamdulillah. In every city you can find muslims and halal restaurant, but especially in XI An, Guangzhou and of course Xingqian, but this place is very far away, but maybe the most beautiful.

No they are not. The muslims in Xi'an belong to Hui ethnic Group. Their ancestors were from Persia and Arab but they all look like Chinese now. They speak Chinese too.

Come on, Xi'an is my hometown. How could you know more than I do? China has 8 muslim ethnic groups and Hui is the only one that is not Turkic. Hui's ancestors were from Arab and Persia, especially during Tang dynasty. However they have been mixed with Chinese for a thousand years...

Sorry, there is another non-Turikic muslim people in China. It's Tajik. Tajiks are related to Persians, though they are influened by Uyghurs in China.

The city looks very nice and the people are decent. One thing I did not understand is, why the great mosque is surrounded by those iron castings?

Don't understand why chinese people need your sympathy as if they were living in a misery. Iron castings are common among chinese public buildings to prevent theft etc.

I am sorry to say you are wrong.I am a Hui Muslim in china. We arenot Turki people.

Maybe 1000 years ago,many arabs and Persians came China and set up family with Chinese women. They and thier chindren were called "Hui" by Chinese.

The population of Hui people is almost 10 millions now.Some Hui (maybe30%)arenot muslims.

I coma from Qinghai povince.14% of the population of Qinghai povince is Hui people.

Sorry, no historical proof to support your claims. Hui population did expand through inter-marriage though. It's only recently that Han started to seek islam. But the proportion is just too neglectable. Besides, Han muslims still think they are Han, not Hui.

You can refer to those field martials of Ming Dynasty e.g Lan Yu, Xu Da, who are now worshiped as saints and ancestors of Hui muslins who descend their family names.
