It's very easy to get freaked out and want to distance yourself from a loved one that's dying because it's easier to let them go, but true love is holding on until the very last instant of life. Hence the singer staying in the waiting room and waiting for the nurse to give him the news and all he can think about is what she said: "Love is watching someone die."

It's a very deep thought that I think we all have at different times in our lives. Fantastic portrayal of the journey, I've been there....

My great-grandmother died last night after having a stroke three weeks ago, and this song describes the last three weeks in every single line.

"It stung like a violent wind that our memories depend on a faulty camera in our minds." Anyone who's watched someone suffer from Alzheimers for years knows how true that is. "A place where we only say goodbye." Pretty much defines Hospice. And especially "Love is watching someone die." I've definitely come to appreciate that line the last few weeks.

she is not actually there, the songs represents her, that why he has it on repeat. He was in the ICU if you listen to the lyrics but didn't go in to see her as she was dying, the nurse delivered the news to him. He remembers what she said to him: love is watching someone die. He didn't watch her die so now he is extremely upset with himself, and she feels like he didn't love her which is why she plays that French Game of love me, love me not, and ends with he does not love me at all.
