yes, these dogs are the best! They are very active. They will play with you for hours if you let them.. but yes, they will sometimes have a calmer temperament to match with the owner. They are excellent around kids, and will make you laugh. My current airdale is about to turn 3 years old. He was house broken extrememly early...they are great for obedience training!!! <3 Airedales!

EXCELLENT with kids. Beyond excellent. Protective, gentle, patient, playful, can take any punishment a kid can dish out without a care in the world. Many people prefer bigger dogs with kids, because their size alone lets kids play rough with them, while little dogs may feel in danger and all without size on their side, all they have is their teeth to protect themselves. Honestly, I've never heard of anyone having probs with Airedales and kids. Fantastic dogs.

My third dog was an Airedale terrier.

I've never seen such a lovely dog in my life, I loved him very much and I miss him more.

i heard they are pretty good with allergies, is that true? also how much excercise do they need a day?

Yes. They don't shed - same as many terriers. You likely will want to have an Airedale professionally trimmed or stripped. Stripping is better for the coat. Trimming tends to make for an unruly, curly coat as it grows back out.

Airedales can be EXTREMELY active, but they can often tailor their activity level to their owner - not all the time though, mind you. I'd say at least an hour of rough play and running a day, if not two, with days occasionally skipped.
