i like the video, and i have no understanding of the different dances from the different parts of africa, what all have in common is that as soon as someone tries to show the beauty and powers of this dances, all sorts of "african" write stupid comments like this is not how we dance, they should be then making a video and showing us how it is done, i have not seen anyone so far!
@Netertaat u r simply beautiful with your heart in the right place it;s just that some of the ignorance you hear are who they are it can't be help, they can't be help, however I really appreciate you trying to set the record straight......keep up the good work!!!! peace, bless and love queen
Ummmmm I am Nigerian & we don't dance like this & Nigerian is considered Africa. When you say African dance, don't say Africa in general. Africa is Tanzania, South Africa, Rwanda, Sierra Leone .... so many countries be specific. No--I won't criticize her dancing cause i really don't no what part of Africa does this "African dance". By the way when I say Nigerians don't dance like this, Nigerians have so many ways of dancing. Igbos, Hausas, Yorubas; they all Nigerian but different dances!
You are doing a great job! I am west African and so proud of you! some people are just mean and just discourages others! because they cannot dance like you! so ignore them! I wonder why they are offended anyway??? we are all one as humanc it doesn't matter where we come from! we can learn from other! Stay blessed! your roots are in Africa so pease ignore the ignorant below! Stay blessed
this girl should shut the hell up!! if u are not South African or West African, quit teaching me what i already know!! <_< plus i bet we can ALL dance bettr than yuh.
@MsUgochi i thank you Ms. Ugochi! Please do make a video! I don't know what dance is this but it certainly not Nigeria and last time I checked Nigeria is Africa tooo! -- Chizoba ♥
Firstly, there is no such thing as "African Dance"
Secondly, i'm not claiming that i know every single dance form every different Ethenic group in Africa, but NEVER in my life have I seen anyone "African" dance like this
And finally, as far as sterotypical "African Dances" go this is very bad, she really shouldn't be dancing like this herself let alone teaching others to do so.
r da african moves also jamaican?? i like the tchiriri and jamaican reggae like beenie man and elephant man and many more....... bitch u dont seem african cuz africanz noe how to dance and u just acting stupid:D RETARTO GYAL!!!
@ZeggWizzeyWeed And since when did the Africans, of those days start wearing Armani, to trade slaves with the Europeans? :-)
My dear, this was all a game of "interests", it still is!!! Look around you, do you honestly think "slavery" is over, abolished from the face of the earth? NO! They still try to enslave people, as we speak. Real slaves, captives. In the sex trade, you name it. Horrible! The girl on the video, is fine, she just made me laugh....hey...I'll contract dancing zoukous, or Mblax
@ZeggWizzeyWeed ...part 2- ...ate Africans, as non civilized, naked, without "God" or shame, this lack of "understanding" for african culture, and their ignorance, led to many of the misconceptions of the time. I see many Africans today, who look down at other Africans, as inferior, Arabs do that, some racist Europeans, still do that. It was not just a denominator with the "whites". Xenophobia, is very African, mon frere! I was last summer in South Africa, do I know that!!! Bonne soiree!
@TheMina31 xenophobia is here, we are still suffering from it , Women are still oppressed in many communities, etc. As i said i don't know about North,East,Central or Southern africa,I am still talking from my knowledge of western african ethnies, and they are as crual as every other people in the world.Am just sayin:In the colonial time blackman was still a ''subhuman'' who need 2 b brought out of his darkness. Now how can you immagine a French or English of 1500's trading with a monkey tribe?
@ZeggWizzeyWeed Not so sure, how much of an "animal" the Europeans of that time, honestly thought Africans were??? I have a feeling, they were "smart" enough to see they had a culture, and many quite sophisticated ones, BUT, in other cases, used the "nudity" a symbol, of people with no
God/Civilization/SHAME, etc...therefore, distiguished from other "humans". Not much as changed today, most cultures, view the way you "present" yourself in order to form an opinion about you, and judge you.
@TheMina31 YES It was a game of interest between French-English,Spanish&Portugese, thats why the theory of capture was more probable, than trade.Take on account of how cheap slaves could be sold in America. If they were bought in Africa , would the slave traders make any profit?Don't tell me the slaves were bought with spoons, and mirrors, becuz those the population was already getting those things through the transaharian commerce.I strong believe that atleast 3/4 of W.Afr slaves were captured.
@ZeggWizzeyWeed I have no doubt about that! Some were bought from Africans, some were captured. This was never our discussion, but to the fact, that people ONLY want to blame, ALWAYS white people, Europeans, Americans. I'm getting really TIRED of that!!! Vraiment fatigue! Je te dit!!!
ALL had part of the slave trade!!! ALL are CRIMINALS! Muslims, Christians, Jews, Africans!!! PERIOD! One quarter "less" evil, doesn't make one a "saint"!
@TheMina31 Even in primary schools they don't teach that the blame is on the"WHITE"!At the primary level 4 exple they only learn slavery in Senegal, then in junior they go with the regional level(West Afr),etc! But i undertand it makes everybody feel relaxed,to say''Some were captured ,some were SOLD ''.There4 the "Capture" theory's rejectabl.!Let everybody go tell their side of the story 2 their kids.BTW its not africans who first taught the world about Slavery or Egypt, but european historians.
@ZeggWizzeyWeed Where they teach that, it's irrelevant! It's so "easy" to "out of a sudden" become so "united", and join forces against a "common" enemy, who looks "different"...interesting!!! The sense of "African unity", came after the exploitation, part from Europeans, before there wasn't such thing. There were RIVAL etchnic groups, always at each others throats!!! There's NOTHING "relaxed" about slavery, I called it a CRIME against humanity! You're too worried about who to BLAME "MORE"...
@TheMina31 ''The sense of "African unity", came after the exploitation ''.Which means Africans were very divided(until now),bcuz of their differences.Thats why U can't use the term:"African sold african" for the whole continent instead f proceeding by region.Bcuz unlike Africa, european culture was kind of uniformist very early(same religions, same type institution etc).European historians R the ones who informed the whole world(including Africa)about this slavetrade. Its not Africa blamin "EURO"?
@TheMina31 Africans always at each others throat?I guess thats how red indians sold each other b4 the resilient ones were shot & others died in the plantations. Then traders came ''buying'' africans from their other rivals!Great story!thats ok 4 the ''buyers".But ask us?We will tell the thousands of groups who ran from coalstal ereas 2 the country side to escape from capturers,In the colonial era, peopl and their kings were shot bcuz they didn't want protectorat.History won't be written same way!
@ZeggWizzeyWeed YES! The different ethnic grpups, hated each other, were the worst rivals, and were, still are at each others throats!!! YES, within the SAME group of people, there was a sense of community, and many did run from being captured. What does one reality, has to do with the other? I keep saying the same thing, butu keep enying REALITY, the OTHER reality, you're so hardly REFUSE to "accept". The truth, hurts doesn't it?
@TheMina31 My reality is based on what i have read and also what i have been learnt from different ethnic groups ,our ancestors. And it goes from the period before&during transatlantic slavery , during colonization(public humiliations, murders,) up now.Its our experience!
And your reality is based on what you read and also what you have seen while touring Africa etc !
So may be in 200 years ,the next generation will find agreement,as the world will be ONE country!PEACE!!
@ZeggWizzeyWeed And my reality, is based on the truth! On human experience, on what I hear from African themselves(the ones who have the guts to tell the truth), and yes, there was exploitation, and murderes, etc...and I'm very apole to all that, but not all the europeans, who went to africa, were mean, and heartless. I have both in my family, the bigots, who I can't stand, and the ones, who were even tortured, for speaking against that discrimination, under the fascist regime, that was there.
@TheMina31 I have read books written by european historians too who seem to be agree with me abut the fact that no trade was imaginable between the people(animals) in this part of the world and the slave merchands(humans).
Hey i think am done with this topic,i will keep in mind everything you told me here, maybe i'll later be convinced of it.I am the intruder ,i guess am the one who have to sign out .
@ZeggWizzeyWeed lol...Not at all, there's no intruders here! You are right and I am right. You have a valid and truthful point, I just wanted to ADD to your view, that you find evil everywhere. And, in what concerned the horror of slavery, "whites" were not the ONLY ones, involved of the human trafficking of people. Unkind, hateful acts, are still being done today, black on black, in Africa, white on white in Europe. Evil people, given the "opportunity" they'll exploit and hurt others.Ma'ssalam
@ZeggWizzeyWeed I wasn't "teaching", just adding to what was "missing" on your side!!! JEREJEF! Ba beneen, and Thanks for the good wishes! Hey, before I came and argued with you, I had some "training" at barganing, in the markets of Abidjan, with Senegalese merchants...ahahahha.....You make it there, you make it anywhere...just like NY!!! LOL
@TheMina31 Alright , lets say ''adding the missing'' :-)!
Bargaining ,Well i didn't know they do it in NY too ,we probably exported it there too LOL.....
I believe its very old here, probably from the old weekly markets ,back in the days when there was no currency(money),People would just trock their materials. You are right to go on training ,otherwise you would lost so much money , lol
@TheMina31 the debate is gonna be too long with no agreement. So i think we should forget about all this,as none of us was an actor in these horrible tragedies.I am personaly not accusing you of anything, and i have no bad feeling toward any Europeans as far slavery is concerned. Both of us have made our little researches, and i think its good thing.
The girl in this video moves very well, but i think she goes too far with the contraction thing.thats only applicable4 the guinean malinke ethnies!
@ZeggWizzeyweed It's interesting, how we came here to comment on african dance, and somehow how funny this sweet lady, got to it...and we ended up in slavery...waw..the internet, hein? C'est incroyable! I was actually looking for Sabar dance, since I'm going to Dakar in July, Godwill, and trying to learn about the Sufism there, wolof, etc.... but hey, I'll settle for sad, horrible slavery..:(
@TheMina31 Don't worry we are just discussing on a tragedy in which have not taken part! And i am glad to be finaly able to have a normal conversation, with no cursing and insults!Lets say we both righteous people who are not going to repeat the mistake of the past!So i think we are kind of partners! We ow each other nothing but love , so lets give it to each other !PEACE!
@ZeggWizzeyWeed Indeed, peaceful, civilized conversations, are much more productive! As far as Europeans, competing with each other, and being greedy for wealth, you're right. So were Africans, Arabs, Jews, Christians, and Muslims. The Pharaos of Egypt, AFRICANS, were the most cruel "masters" you can imagine. Like I said, evil, Satan, must be an hereditary gene, they all carried! When given a chance, humans abuse other humans, not just European on Africans. The "people of the KITAB" looked at..
@TheMina31 I never said africans are perfect, and i wans't trying to make them appear ''good'' and europeans ''bad''.There use 2 be prctices that i personaly qualify as crual, like:some human sacrifices in some ethnic groups in pandemic times, internal ethnic wars, all other atrocities. All i was trying to explain was that:the civilized europeans of slavery time could not buy nothing from a "subhuman'' naked african with a spear. In what language would they even trade? And am talking about only W.Afri
I'm an African and proud, if you guys dont like what she is teaching, thats your problem. Let the woman do her thing, she just giving the basics. God bless my beautiful Africa and Africans. We are beautiful and so diverse, so rich in culture, arts, languages, tribes, animals, resources and we will over come the minor struggles like we always did.
@PrinceNoirAmericanI agree with you. African America, has giving to the world, its due beauty, richness. Nobody can deny, or take that away. With the anger, finger pointing element, that can take away the passion of it. Anger, hatred, revenge, it's like a hurricane, always causes damage, and destruction. Understood, in its historical form, bit not my cup of tea. Slavery, was NOT started by "Europeans", Jews traders, etc... but by African rival tribes, who sold their neighbors into slavery. SAD!
You sound like a very nice person, and I apoligize if I came across in any way negative. I know, there's exceptions to the rules, and I think you're one of them. I was in South Africa one month last summer, and I saw lots of similarities with Africa America. I had to bring all the African music to parties, besides the Kwaito, which I love, they played only House music...Help me Lord!!! LOL
@TheMina31 You seem to be a very smart person , at least i think you read a lot !But one thing africa is a whole continent, and full of thousand tribes. In a very smal country you can find more than 20 ethnies (or call it tribes if you want ).I just wanna tell you that , African selling rivals tribes , that thing concerns only EAST AFRICA(slaves sold to Arabs),The only things arabs would come for in West africa was Gold and diamon.Seling a human being was an abomination in 95% of the W.Tribes.PAIX
@ZeggWizzeyWeed Dieureudief, mon cher!!! And, you seem to be a very kind person too, off course, you had to be from Senegal!!!!!
I speak from what I've heard, that many of the slaves brought to Brasil, and the Americas, who came from West-Africa, many were captured, and sold to the Europeans, by their own people. Not just in the East, but in the West. Off course, nobody want to take their share of the blame, for this atrocity....
Not surprised! If not from Senegal, from Congo, etc....
@TheMina31 If your teachers or informers had given an example of ethnic groups that use 2 sell their rivals,i would have learnt and accepted something new from U,but you see they generalized , and thats not a suprise 4 me.And its much more easy for anybody to believe i admit.Go check the histoy of Mali empire, you will find out that it was a confederation of several ethnic groups ,in order 2 counter the Berber and arab slave traders invasion.Guess u kno that already! So lets all continue learning
@ZeggWizzeyWeed It would take me the whole youtube space, to dwell on this subject of slavery but, here it goes, SPECIFCS: As far as African ethnic groups who captured, sold other Africans into slavery: The ASANTE rulers, sold non Asante into slavery; Ashanti of Ghana, YOURUBA of Nigeria, the IMBANGALA of Angola, the NYAMWEZI of Tanzania, served as intermediaries or waging wars on Africans states, to capture people, for export as slaves. The Jews of Spain, sold SLAVS as slaves,CentralEuropean
@TheMina31 I respect your reserch, and i won't say its false! But there is a difference, between a whole ethnic group selling people of another group , and a FEW outlows of a ''tribe'' working for the slave traders.I also go to google and wiki too,and the pages for West Afr is always short with sentences like''In Senegambia, between 1300 and 1900, close to 1/3 of the population was enslaved'' or it goes like,''Among the Ashanti and Yoruba 1/3 of the population consisted of enslaved people''(cntinu
@ZeggWizzeyWeed That is ONLY what the internet informs us. African culture, has a lot of verbal knowledge, and any West African I know, knows this as a fact, that Africans, can, and have been their worst enemies!!! Yes, African people, are strong, and that doesn't erase the fact that many, were sold to the Europeans, by african slave traders. Evil people, exits in every culture and etchnic group. The old testament, and the koran itself, it's full of slavery, as a norm of social structure.SAD!
@TheMina31 My best is ''''When British rule was first imposed on the Sokoto Caliphate and the surrounding areas in northern Nigeria at the turn of the 20th century, approximately 2 million to 2.5 million people there were enslaved.[4] Slavery in northern Nigeria was finally outlawed in 1936.''''Why does it always have 2 b 1/3?And its always the european colonialist who would put an end on the practice, strange? In this century of human rights , who do U think needs 2 refuse to take on the blame?
@ZeggWizzeyWeed Where have I ever said that the "Europeans" don't have any blame? It is what it is. I was only upset, that you seem to wanna clean your hands, as the "good" people, while slavery, was a human atrocity practiced by many African leaders, muslim leaders, Jews, and YES Europeans. They ALL, fell into that crime! That's my point. I'm admitting, that this was a CRIME, against humanity. It really pisses me off, to ONLY hear the finger pointing at "Europeans". Get it now? Hope so! PAIX
@TheMina31 I understand you being pissed off,and feel like u have let people know its a shared crime! Now imagine what you would do if you were an historian? And in this ''century of Human rights'' and democracy for which;countries are still being invaded. What western historian wouldn't be pissed by this theory,?If trade was not possible between the West and african ''subhumans'' during colonial time , do you really belive it was when England France & Spain use 2 be Rival wealth obsessed kindoms?
@TheMina31 I still think i gotta hold on 2 my library books.Note:even thoz books are divided into 2,bcuz the authors hav different motivations, and different bosses. The strange thing is slave trade use 2 b Europ ''capturing'', and then all of a sudden , in this century , it turn out 2 b Africa selling themselves. Rmember if we R still alive its Bcuz ancetors, wern't lazy ,they wer strong enough 2 surviv.Othewiz they would end up;tragicly exterminated like Native american , Australian and etc.
@ZeggWizzeyWeed You know, mon cher ami, as difficult as it is for you to admit, and accept the share of guilt that Africans, had in the slavery trade, it's painful for me, to know that Europeans were part of it. We come from loving families, and it's almost impossible, to associate those things to us, our worlds. There was a Hitler in Europe, and a mother Teresa, how do you justify that? Genocides, all over the African continent, black on black. The greediness of HUMAN POWER! EVIL, has no color
@TheMina31 1st all In the 1500's it was a common believe in the West that africans are subhumans, animals,Now do you think a slave trader with that type thoughs , with a gun in his hand, would buy something from an animal,or lets say a ''monkey''?2ndly,all the countries involved in the slave trade were always competing each other(Wet indie occupied),here Do you think an ENGLISH slave trader would buy slaves from ''monkeys'' whil rival FRANCE,was capturing them and making more profit?Honestly!
@TheMina31 The only slavery that was on, was between EAST AFR and ARABIA,(and slavery is still a reality in the EAS).In the 1200's,during the time of Mali and Ghana empire, arab would come in West africa but it was for gold and diamond , they didn't need slaves, bcuz they could get it in the EAST,and btw thats how islam was introduced in west africa.Selling humans was not part of West african ethnic groups(tribes),commerce. If you know one tribe that allowed it ,let me know!Peace from Senegal
superiority complex where mutual discovery no longer has its place. I believe that all cultures are beautiful and unique in their own way. So instead of making comparisons, we should focus on what each culture brings to the table and attempt to learn from one another
The results are always better lol, I can attest to that.
I don't see a lot of white Americans trying to be "European", whatever that means but I do come across white Americans who are interested in specific European cultures. There's a difference between being interested in something and trying to be so
mething. For example, there was a time when I was interested in French culture (still am to a certain extent) but I never tried to be "French". The sister in the video seems to be an AA who has
She's giving an educated show about the dance...obviously for beginners. I know, people have a hard time with African Americans, trying to be "pure" Africans, but I give her some credit for trying.
@PrinceNoirAmericain Meant "native". In this sense of the word. Just like white americans, trying to be "europeans"...the "CULTURE" element is gone in both. It is a NEW culture here. Most, the skin color remains. You want african culture, you have to go to Africa, with people, who were born and raised there. The same thing, with Europe. Sorry, the truth has to be said.
Don't apologize, I just wanted some clarification as to what you meant by "trying to be pure Africans" but I still don't see how that relates to the video. Obviously she's been to Africa on many occasions (Senegal, Guinea Conakry, Mali etc) so I don't see how that applies to her. I agree that if you want to learn such and such culture, it's better and wiser to travel to the country where the culture is practiced, just like learning a language
LOL...Ok I won't! I'm European, and very "African" culturally. Also, been, lived in parts of Africa. So, I know what I'm talking about. My original comment, was refering to someone who was critizising her. And due to the history of the US, slavery, racism, etc... That has been a "revival" of African Americans, desperate trying to hold on to what they lost. Which, off course I can understand. But, nobody can compare to "pure" Africans. Born and raised there.
ok lol but I didn't insinuate that you didn't know what you're talking about lol.
Well, they weren't trying to hold on to what they lost but rather trying to reclaim what was lost. What is lost is lost so the goal was to reconnect with their African roots and discover the different cultures once practiced by their ancestors.
Well listen, everyone will always claim that nobody can compare to them. There's nothing wrong with ethnocentrism as long as it doesn't mutate into a
@TheMina31 Agreed! I am not sure the women of Guinea or any other African nature, are concerned with contracting or releasing. This is their own culture and it come naturally. Only AA women who only probably want to be a "pure african" go through these semantics. I am a frequenter of Africa and have a foundation there and have visited many African nations, but I can't be an African except the fact that I have roots there like most of us. Let's be real. This was a stupid video.
@debtanz49 LOL... I won't argue with you! Then again..lol..youtube is full of these! That's what happens, when people are trying to "copy",,,,anyway...I hope you're having many contractions in Africa...ahahahahahahahah
Hopefully, I'll be there soon in Senegal, Inshallah, like they say...releasing and contracting, with the Sabar dancing.....LOL...*WINK*
Yeah Africa is a diverse place, diverse cultures, diverse languages, food and dance. but this girl cannot dance at all ...at least judging from what she showed in this clip. that was staler then morning breath right there.
O girl, first of all what is a "African dance"? Africa is a diverse place. You won't say Asia dances, because Indians are Asian, Russians are Asians, same has Chinese. So please don't say African dances. Even in Nigeria alone, "Nigerian dance" doesn't even exist. Africa keeps breaking itself down, that's how we have all those beautiful and handsome people there. Lovely languages, sent down from heaven. With diverse languages, and dancing.
@MrKratoni To me.. African Dancing, are just dances that are from AFRICA. Yes Africa has many different countries, but the dances I see from different African countries, are so beautiful, and different. I LOVE IT
@thisblackgirl Yeah, I understand your perspective. But some people, who lack wisdom, knowledge, and understanding start to think that all Africans dance like that. They think we make clicking noises. People criticize us Africans, on what they see on the television. I'm sure no one would want to be referred to as being dirty. White men make us look bad, when they'll go to the poorest part of Africa and show them eating on a monkey. Things like that angers me, and gets me irritated.
This woman need to take a trip to Africa instead of thinking what she is doing is correct b/c I am LIBERIAN (west african) and she just makes african dance look bad. She needs to be taught
Number she is African, so she doesn't need to go anywhere, its already in her. And there are many different ways to dance. Here she is giving instruction, and is moving slow, for people who probably aren't African, and doesn't dance this way at all. You need not to be worried about folks making African dance look bad, there are millions of us, and we all do it our own way, let us, and you do yours.
@chsn09 I was not the one talking shit you were. You came on this lady's page and called her ugly for no reason. You are a very ugly person on the inside.
@shadet541 Actually I watched this video because someone suggested it to me and then I realized that this person in the video is kind of ugly.
And if I am an ugly person inside in YOUR opinion YOU are the even uglier person inside for even insinuating or stating that I am ugly. Take YOUR own advice.
I bet you ugly on the outside and the inside too lmao
Ca me dépasse, quoi.
I am African and I am proud of what you are doing. Although your ancestors came from Africa maybe 300 years ago you still have interest in Africa and her people. I as an African man accept you as an Africac sister because our ancestors once shared the same continent. You still have African blood and DNA. ;)
I had to respond again after reading some more comment...first of all i am nigerian and please "AFRICANS" in america and the caribbean please forgive the ignorance of many african fools...they do not speak for all of us...like an earlier coment that i liked...u have the right to appreciate african culture, it is ur birth right!!!...most of those idiots i bet cant even dance....but my dear sista u should not have called it "advanced' though, take care ...your "siblings" on the continent love u!!
And you call that advanced?you know nothing about Africa and africa is a continent with 54 countries and each country has more than 100 dances.Click forexample Lingala and Soukouss from Congo,Benga and kamba from Kenya then you know the origin of Samba, this ignorance is irritating.
ritee i agree wit both of yall imean i felt like slappin her on the cpu...its not cool dey dnt knoe how we dance.....nd nondyebo she not even afrcan nd if she is.....SHE CANT FREAKIN DANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Your movements look like afro-fusion or African contemporary dance.........don't listen to these nasty comments,I think they are not aware of this particular genre.....you have every right to practice your African culture and no one has a right to take that away from........to all these comments just because you are Africa doesn't necessarily mean you know everything about Africa, there are lot of things i don't know myself and I get joyous when I discover more......Don't kill this ladies joy
My American sister! Nice try but which "African dance are you talking about? . Actually your moves have got more Ballet elements in it than african dance move. But thanks anyway!
We, as Africans, must appreciate when people try to embrace our culture.Let's make constructive criticism. After living in America for many years, I know that dealing with negative stereotypes about our continent can make one bitter but Africans must look at the bigger picture.Let's make corrections where corrections are required but in a brotherly way.
Damn as an African American of Haitian heritage I would've never expected such hate from our motherland. Ouch. With that said I understand your side but understand we are the ones that were taken. Not knowing our original tribes. Thus the "generalizing" of cultures because all we have is the entire continent. And this is coming from someone who knows different dances from different cultures. So when they say you all call us cotton pickers I guess it's true. damn.
I can understand and appreciate the different styles. Originally from Philadelphia, I could get :-( when someone puts cheeze whiz on a cheese steak. I could offer to make them a "proper one" myself or keep my mouth shut. I don't expect them to fly to Philadelphia for just a chance at a good one. I am enrolled in an African dance class this fall. Please, come teach it yourself. I would love that.
um haters... this lady even states in the beginnning, consult your individual instructor on how the movements are interpreted in different regions and this is representative of Guinea. How people can hate on those who show interest and appreciation for their culture/ artfomrs is a mystery. We know we can't move like Africans (yes generalizing the continent, shoot me), but we would like to LEARN, Jesus.....
@blahblahblah7830 yeah i hear u...i am african as well and i do love it wen i see my african american cousins showing intrest. the only thing that i must say is that i dont really know that dances in africa are choreographed per say and i dont think it is possible to dance without the actual sound....but as you have said, even we on the continent are open to learn...but please please please my fellow africans..we are all one...
@blahblahblah7830 naw sweetie what u see here is not african dancing is what the whiteman and the african american think wut african dancing is,like i said u wanna c da reall african dancing go to nigeria, congo and many other countries
@fdm03chick But there are many different types of African dances. Since you say you are an African you should know that dances vary along tribes let alone country. As much as we Africans are painted in a bad light , why mock the lady for pushing African culture to others who have interest. If you have a better method post it instead being a sideline hater.
@bronze83 wow i just sit at my computer and laught at you...hating come on now u don't even kno me to call me a hater...by the way do u even know d definition of hater...open up your dictionary and look it up...i think the world u r looking for is jealous..check yo self please...it annoying how these african americans say this is how everyone in africa dance, they try to take our culture away...please aint nobody hating on this girl...get a life child
And what African Americans said that this is how everyone dances in Africa? lol And how have African Americans taken away your culture? lol Please, provide us with some examples. This sister has studied different African dances for over 16 years and now teaches them to people who are desirous to learn them and you dare accuse her of taking away your culture lol
How do you know it's not "African dancing". You mean to tell me she simply created her own dance and labelled it "African dancing"? There are probably more than 2000 different tribal dances. Granted, she could have specified the region and trible from which this dance originated but there probably wouldn't be as many views. "African dance" is just a general term that encompasses every type of African dance.
All African dances are "real", it's not because Ndombolo and Mapouka
are internationally known that the other 2000 or so dances are "fake"
Naturally, when we read such ignorant comments emanating from so-called "experts" by virtue of being born on the continent, the first word that comes to mind is "hater" but I prefer to believe that you jumped the gun and are not a hater
Wow, I looked at this video with genuine interest in African dance (yes in general realizing there are many, many, forms of it). After reading the comments from Africans I don't have any interest in learning anything about it. If you all can't appreciate that at least interest in dance shows some interest in your cultures you live a very sheltered and ethnocentric existence. I take it NO AFRICANS express interest in rap or hip hop??? I highly doubt it....

IDK what *African dance* is...First of all there's no dance such as African dance just like there's no language such as African...In Africa there's makossa,Bikutsi,Benskin, soukouss, coupe decale, mapouka etc.....Different ethnic groups have different dances and in ethnic groups are tribes who alsp have different dances, dialects and traditions!!
I know west african dance and they don't dance like that today, those dances are just old-fashioned like polka for europeans , i prefer coupé décalé, ndombolo, soukouss and others but not that, and my "gwo ka" in Guadeloupe is better...
yall are mean. She is only showing a contraction not doing an entire dance. At least she has the courage to try and experience other cultures. I dont understand why the hate...btwi believe most people know africa is not a country.
I will not listen to a non African trying to teach African dances!!! We Africans don't need to learn, it comes naturally, IF you are taught, then you probably look like a disfigured robot trying to do the dance!
In all fairness though, she is awful, lol. Still I think she is respectful and does not claim to know know the truth of the movement as a lot of white women who think they know the shit just because they've taken years of classes and black dik. They still have no soul. Sorry, getting an injections does not make you African an having black children does not make you African either, your kids are though. Just be respectful white women, and know your place thats all we ask
Ohhh people please stop, why is it that I don't see this kind of reaction when white people prostitute and bastardize African culture from any region. When white people do it the reaction black men have is, ohhhh how cute, let me help you. Please if you really cared you would teach instead of criticize, but instead who gets the preferential treatment in Africa and in African dance classes "white women". Get real, instead of criticizing teach. No one criticizes Africans for doing bab hip pop.

TheMina31 9 months ago
@ZeggWizzeyWeed ...part 2- ...ate Africans, as non civilized, naked, without "God" or shame, this lack of "understanding" for african culture, and their ignorance, led to many of the misconceptions of the time. I see many Africans today, who look down at other Africans, as inferior, Arabs do that, some racist Europeans, still do that. It was not just a denominator with the "whites". Xenophobia, is very African, mon frere! I was last summer in South Africa, do I know that!!! Bonne soiree!
TheMina31 9 months ago
@TheMina31 xenophobia is here, we are still suffering from it , Women are still oppressed in many communities, etc. As i said i don't know about North,East,Central or Southern africa,I am still talking from my knowledge of western african ethnies, and they are as crual as every other people in the world.Am just sayin:In the colonial time blackman was still a ''subhuman'' who need 2 b brought out of his darkness. Now how can you immagine a French or English of 1500's trading with a monkey tribe?
ZeggWizzeyWeed 9 months ago
@ZeggWizzeyWeed Not so sure, how much of an "animal" the Europeans of that time, honestly thought Africans were??? I have a feeling, they were "smart" enough to see they had a culture, and many quite sophisticated ones, BUT, in other cases, used the "nudity" a symbol, of people with no
God/Civilization/SHAME, etc...therefore, distiguished from other "humans". Not much as changed today, most cultures, view the way you "present" yourself in order to form an opinion about you, and judge you.
TheMina31 9 months ago
@TheMina31 YES It was a game of interest between French-English,Spanish&Portugese, thats why the theory of capture was more probable, than trade.Take on account of how cheap slaves could be sold in America. If they were bought in Africa , would the slave traders make any profit?Don't tell me the slaves were bought with spoons, and mirrors, becuz those the population was already getting those things through the transaharian commerce.I strong believe that atleast 3/4 of W.Afr slaves were captured.
ZeggWizzeyWeed 9 months ago
@ZeggWizzeyWeed I have no doubt about that! Some were bought from Africans, some were captured. This was never our discussion, but to the fact, that people ONLY want to blame, ALWAYS white people, Europeans, Americans. I'm getting really TIRED of that!!! Vraiment fatigue! Je te dit!!!
ALL had part of the slave trade!!! ALL are CRIMINALS! Muslims, Christians, Jews, Africans!!! PERIOD! One quarter "less" evil, doesn't make one a "saint"!
TheMina31 9 months ago
@TheMina31 Even in primary schools they don't teach that the blame is on the"WHITE"!At the primary level 4 exple they only learn slavery in Senegal, then in junior they go with the regional level(West Afr),etc! But i undertand it makes everybody feel relaxed,to say''Some were captured ,some were SOLD ''.There4 the "Capture" theory's rejectabl.!Let everybody go tell their side of the story 2 their kids.BTW its not africans who first taught the world about Slavery or Egypt, but european historians.
ZeggWizzeyWeed 9 months ago
@ZeggWizzeyWeed Where they teach that, it's irrelevant! It's so "easy" to "out of a sudden" become so "united", and join forces against a "common" enemy, who looks "different"...interesting!!! The sense of "African unity", came after the exploitation, part from Europeans, before there wasn't such thing. There were RIVAL etchnic groups, always at each others throats!!! There's NOTHING "relaxed" about slavery, I called it a CRIME against humanity! You're too worried about who to BLAME "MORE"...
TheMina31 9 months ago
@TheMina31 ''The sense of "African unity", came after the exploitation ''.Which means Africans were very divided(until now),bcuz of their differences.Thats why U can't use the term:"African sold african" for the whole continent instead f proceeding by region.Bcuz unlike Africa, european culture was kind of uniformist very early(same religions, same type institution etc).European historians R the ones who informed the whole world(including Africa)about this slavetrade. Its not Africa blamin "EURO"?
ZeggWizzeyWeed 9 months ago
@TheMina31 Africans always at each others throat?I guess thats how red indians sold each other b4 the resilient ones were shot & others died in the plantations. Then traders came ''buying'' africans from their other rivals!Great story!thats ok 4 the ''buyers".But ask us?We will tell the thousands of groups who ran from coalstal ereas 2 the country side to escape from capturers,In the colonial era, peopl and their kings were shot bcuz they didn't want protectorat.History won't be written same way!
ZeggWizzeyWeed 9 months ago
@ZeggWizzeyWeed YES! The different ethnic grpups, hated each other, were the worst rivals, and were, still are at each others throats!!! YES, within the SAME group of people, there was a sense of community, and many did run from being captured. What does one reality, has to do with the other? I keep saying the same thing, butu keep enying REALITY, the OTHER reality, you're so hardly REFUSE to "accept". The truth, hurts doesn't it?
TheMina31 9 months ago
@TheMina31 My reality is based on what i have read and also what i have been learnt from different ethnic groups ,our ancestors. And it goes from the period before&during transatlantic slavery , during colonization(public humiliations, murders,) up now.Its our experience!
And your reality is based on what you read and also what you have seen while touring Africa etc !
So may be in 200 years ,the next generation will find agreement,as the world will be ONE country!PEACE!!
ZeggWizzeyWeed 9 months ago
@ZeggWizzeyWeed And my reality, is based on the truth! On human experience, on what I hear from African themselves(the ones who have the guts to tell the truth), and yes, there was exploitation, and murderes, etc...and I'm very apole to all that, but not all the europeans, who went to africa, were mean, and heartless. I have both in my family, the bigots, who I can't stand, and the ones, who were even tortured, for speaking against that discrimination, under the fascist regime, that was there.
TheMina31 9 months ago
@TheMina31 I have read books written by european historians too who seem to be agree with me abut the fact that no trade was imaginable between the people(animals) in this part of the world and the slave merchands(humans).
Hey i think am done with this topic,i will keep in mind everything you told me here, maybe i'll later be convinced of it.I am the intruder ,i guess am the one who have to sign out .
Nothing personal!!!! ,It was a pleasure !
ZeggWizzeyWeed 9 months ago
@ZeggWizzeyWeed lol...Not at all, there's no intruders here! You are right and I am right. You have a valid and truthful point, I just wanted to ADD to your view, that you find evil everywhere. And, in what concerned the horror of slavery, "whites" were not the ONLY ones, involved of the human trafficking of people. Unkind, hateful acts, are still being done today, black on black, in Africa, white on white in Europe. Evil people, given the "opportunity" they'll exploit and hurt others.Ma'ssalam

ZeggWizzeyWeed 9 months ago
@ZeggWizzeyWeed Indeed, peaceful, civilized conversations, are much more productive! As far as Europeans, competing with each other, and being greedy for wealth, you're right. So were Africans, Arabs, Jews, Christians, and Muslims. The Pharaos of Egypt, AFRICANS, were the most cruel "masters" you can imagine. Like I said, evil, Satan, must be an hereditary gene, they all carried! When given a chance, humans abuse other humans, not just European on Africans. The "people of the KITAB" looked at..
TheMina31 9 months ago
@TheMina31 I never said africans are perfect, and i wans't trying to make them appear ''good'' and europeans ''bad''.There use 2 be prctices that i personaly qualify as crual, like:some human sacrifices in some ethnic groups in pandemic times, internal ethnic wars, all other atrocities. All i was trying to explain was that:the civilized europeans of slavery time could not buy nothing from a "subhuman'' naked african with a spear. In what language would they even trade? And am talking about only W.Afri

SAD!

ZeggWizzeyWeed 9 months ago

TheMina31 9 months ago
@TheMina31 I respect your reserch, and i won't say its false! But there is a difference, between a whole ethnic group selling people of another group , and a FEW outlows of a ''tribe'' working for the slave traders.I also go to google and wiki too,and the pages for West Afr is always short with sentences like''In Senegambia, between 1300 and 1900, close to 1/3 of the population was enslaved'' or it goes like,''Among the Ashanti and Yoruba 1/3 of the population consisted of enslaved people''(cntinu
ZeggWizzeyWeed 9 months ago

ZeggWizzeyWeed 9 months ago
@ZeggWizzeyWeed Where have I ever said that the "Europeans" don't have any blame? It is what it is. I was only upset, that you seem to wanna clean your hands, as the "good" people, while slavery, was a human atrocity practiced by many African leaders, muslim leaders, Jews, and YES Europeans. They ALL, fell into that crime! That's my point. I'm admitting, that this was a CRIME, against humanity. It really pisses me off, to ONLY hear the finger pointing at "Europeans". Get it now? Hope so! PAIX
TheMina31 9 months ago
@TheMina31 I understand you being pissed off,and feel like u have let people know its a shared crime! Now imagine what you would do if you were an historian? And in this ''century of Human rights'' and democracy for which;countries are still being invaded. What western historian wouldn't be pissed by this theory,?If trade was not possible between the West and african ''subhumans'' during colonial time , do you really belive it was when England France & Spain use 2 be Rival wealth obsessed kindoms?
ZeggWizzeyWeed 9 months ago
@TheMina31 I still think i gotta hold on 2 my library books.Note:even thoz books are divided into 2,bcuz the authors hav different motivations, and different bosses. The strange thing is slave trade use 2 b Europ ''capturing'', and then all of a sudden , in this century , it turn out 2 b Africa selling themselves. Rmember if we R still alive its Bcuz ancetors, wern't lazy ,they wer strong enough 2 surviv.Othewiz they would end up;tragicly exterminated like Native american , Australian and etc.
ZeggWizzeyWeed 9 months ago
@ZeggWizzeyWeed You know, mon cher ami, as difficult as it is for you to admit, and accept the share of guilt that Africans, had in the slavery trade, it's painful for me, to know that Europeans were part of it. We come from loving families, and it's almost impossible, to associate those things to us, our worlds. There was a Hitler in Europe, and a mother Teresa, how do you justify that? Genocides, all over the African continent, black on black. The greediness of HUMAN POWER! EVIL, has no color
TheMina31 9 months ago
@TheMina31 1st all In the 1500's it was a common believe in the West that africans are subhumans, animals,Now do you think a slave trader with that type thoughs , with a gun in his hand, would buy something from an animal,or lets say a ''monkey''?2ndly,all the countries involved in the slave trade were always competing each other(Wet indie occupied),here Do you think an ENGLISH slave trader would buy slaves from ''monkeys'' whil rival FRANCE,was capturing them and making more profit?Honestly!
ZeggWizzeyWeed 9 months ago
@TheMina31 The only slavery that was on, was between EAST AFR and ARABIA,(and slavery is still a reality in the EAS).In the 1200's,during the time of Mali and Ghana empire, arab would come in West africa but it was for gold and diamond , they didn't need slaves, bcuz they could get it in the EAST,and btw thats how islam was introduced in west africa.Selling humans was not part of West african ethnic groups(tribes),commerce. If you know one tribe that allowed it ,let me know!Peace from Senegal

The sister in the video seems to be an AA who has
PrinceNoirAmericain 10 months ago
She's giving an educated show about the dance...obviously for beginners. I know, people have a hard time with African Americans, trying to be "pure" Africans, but I give her some credit for trying.
TheMina31 11 months ago 12
@TheMina31
Trying to be pure?
PrinceNoirAmericain 10 months ago
@PrinceNoirAmericain Meant "native". In this sense of the word. Just like white americans, trying to be "europeans"...the "CULTURE" element is gone in both. It is a NEW culture here. Most, the skin color remains. You want african culture, you have to go to Africa, with people, who were born and raised there. The same thing, with Europe. Sorry, the truth has to be said.
TheMina31 10 months ago
@TheMina31
PrinceNoirAmericain 10 months ago
@PrinceNoirAmericain
TheMina31 10 months ago

Well, they weren't trying to hold on to what they lost but rather trying to reclaim what was lost. What is lost is lost so the goal was to reconnect with their African roots and discover the different cultures once practiced by their ancestors.
Well listen, everyone will always claim that nobody can compare to them. There's nothing wrong with ethnocentrism as long as it doesn't mutate into a

TheMina31 10 months ago

TheCandyapplebum 1 year ago
This is African dance. There are many different countries and cultures within Africa hence different dance styles.
dasanmitchell 1 year ago
O girl, first of all what is a "African dance"? Africa is a diverse place. You won't say Asia dances, because Indians are Asian, Russians are Asians, same has Chinese. So please don't say African dances. Even in Nigeria alone, "Nigerian dance" doesn't even exist. Africa keeps breaking itself down, that's how we have all those beautiful and handsome people there. Lovely languages, sent down from heaven. With diverse languages, and dancing.
MrKratoni 1 year ago 12
@MrKratoni To me.. African Dancing, are just dances that are from AFRICA. Yes Africa has many different countries, but the dances I see from different African countries, are so beautiful, and different. I LOVE IT
thisblackgirl 9 months ago
@thisblackgirl Yeah, I understand your perspective. But some people, who lack wisdom, knowledge, and understanding start to think that all Africans dance like that. They think we make clicking noises. People criticize us Africans, on what they see on the television. I'm sure no one would want to be referred to as being dirty. White men make us look bad, when they'll go to the poorest part of Africa and show them eating on a monkey. Things like that angers me, and gets me irritated.
MrKratoni 9 months ago
This woman need to take a trip to Africa instead of thinking what she is doing is correct b/c I am LIBERIAN (west african) and she just makes african dance look bad. She needs to be taught
Fadedlove89 1 year ago
Number she is African, so she doesn't need to go anywhere, its already in her. And there are many different ways to dance. Here she is giving instruction, and is moving slow, for people who probably aren't African, and doesn't dance this way at all. You need not to be worried about folks making African dance look bad, there are millions of us, and we all do it our own way, let us, and you do yours.

Ca me dépasse, quoi.
PrinceNoirAmericain 1 year ago
PrinceNoirAmericain 1 year ago

So when they say you all call us cotton pickers I guess it's true. damn.
jlemaire22 1 year ago 3

@fdm03chick But there are many different types of African dances. Since you say you are an African you should know that dances vary along tribes let alone country. As much as we Africans are painted in a bad light , why mock the lady for pushing African culture to others who have interest. If you have a better method post it instead being a sideline hater.

PrinceNoirAmericain 1 year ago
@fdm03chick
PrinceNoirAmericain 1 year ago
@fdm03chick
are internationally known that the other 2000 or so dances are "fake"
